Knowledge, Attitudes and Behaviour of Women Working in Government Hospitals Regarding Breast Self Examination

  • Background: Breast self examination (BSE), performed regularly every month, is one of the most important methods in the early diagnosis of breast cancer. This study was performed with the aim of establishing the knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of women working in government hospitals within the province of Samsun regarding BSE. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted between January-March 2012, on a total of 550 women (500 health personnel, and 50 general administration services (GAS) workers) from 7 government hospitals and the Cancer Early Diagnosis, Screening, and Education Centre (CEDSEC). Percentages were used for the descriptive statistics, and the chi-square test for the evaluation of statistical importance. Values of p<0.05 were accepted as significant. Results: The mean age of the participants was $36.2{\pm}15.3$, and 42.5% were in the 30-39 year old age group, 78.0% being married. Seventy-eight point four percent (78.4%) of the health personnel and 76.0% of the GAS workers performed BSE. However, the rates of performing BSE regularly every month were only 25.6% and 5.0%. Within the health personnel, 1.4% stated that they did not perform BSE because they found it unnecessary as they had no history of breast cancer in their family, 3.6% did not do so due to fear and stress, 13.2% because they forgot, and 14.6% because they had no complaints. Some 22.2% of the health personnel and 52.0% of the GAS workers had undergone mammographic evaluation, the difference being significant (p<0.05), 84.1% of the health personnel and 61.9% of the GAS workers knowing symptoms of breast cancer. Conclusions: Women in society should be brought to a certain level of awareness and knowledge regarding BSE. It is of the utmost importance that health personnel, who carry the responsibility for counseling and enlightening society, should interiorize the necessary knowledge, attitudes and behavior.

지식전환선호도와 직무특성이 직무유효성에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Fit between Knowledge Conversion Preference and Job Character on Job Effectiveness)

  • As the importance of intellectual assets has been brought into relief, this study aims at positively verifying where the intellectual workers' overall level of their knowledge conversion preference and their job character has reached, and how much the knowledge conversion preference, the job character and the fitness of both factors affects the job effectiveness respectively. For this purpose 3 types of research hypotheses were set up and the result of the verification of the hypotheses is summarized as follows: First, the verification of the relation between the knowledge conversion preference and the job effectiveness revealed that the workers who have the higher synthetic ability in knowledge conversion preference show the higher job satisfaction and job product. Secondly, the verification of the relation between the MPS representing the job character by measured index and the job satisfaction revealed that the absolute value of relative coefficient between the 4 factors excluding the public welfare factor and the MPS is 4, interpreted as medium correlation. Thirdly, the analysis on the degree of relation between the job product measured by the quality of job result and the input effort and the MPS showed that the absolute value of person relative coefficient is 5, interpreted not only as medium correlation but also very meaningful. Accordingly, the main purpose of this study was to give a guideline which can be utilized as an indicator for educating, training and placing the workers. As results, the main effect that the variable of knowledge conversion preference and job character chosen as the independent variable influences on the dependent variable of job satisfaction and job product is very meaningful except the public welfare factor.

치과종사자들의 방사선 안전관리에 대한 지식 및 행태 (The Knowledge, Attentions and Behaviors of Radiation Safety Managment by Dental Health care Workers)

  • The purpose of this study examines the education, knowledge and behavior of radiation safety management among dental workers and compares the education, knowledge and behavior between dental hygienist group and other occupational groups. This study was conducted from November 2nd to November14th, 2019. The survey was conducted on dental workers(dental hygienists, nursing, assistants, coordinators, etc.) who worked in dental hospitals and clinics in Busan area. The tool of this study was modified and adapted to the clinical setting based on the questionnaire. Radiation safety education has 39 dental hygienists who had more education than non-dental hygienists (p=0.286). The most common types of radiation safety education were self-education which usually performed by dentistry, followed by conservative education and others. The average of radiation attitudes, knowledge and behaviors was higher in the dental hygienist group then in the non-dental hygienist group. On the item-specific behavior among employees, the question of 'the radiation should be shielded according to the menstrual cycle or pregnancy of the woman of childbearing' was significant (p<0.05). On the item-specific knowledge between occupations, the question of 'the intensity of X-rays decreases over distance' and 'the individual exposure can be measured by TLD badge or film badge' was significant (p<0.05). Taken together, these results indicate that the dental hygienist group is more concerned about radiation safety and that the dental hygienist group is receiving more radiation safety management training. However, if there is a low level of 'has experienced' in the presence or absence of safety management education, it is difficult to train radiation safety management in dentistry. Therefore, it is considered that dentists should be trained in radiation safety management periodically to pay attention to radiation safety accidents.

소음성난청 예방교육 실시에 따른 소음에 대한 인식 및 태도, 예방행위 비교 (Comparison of the Knowledge, Attitude and the Preventive Behavior of Noise According to Noise-induced Hearing Loss Prevention Education)

  • Purpose: The research were conducted to identify the knowledge, attitude and the preventive behaviour of noise according to noise-induced hearing loss prevention education and to provide primary data for effective noise-induced hearing loss prevention education for noise-exposed workers. Method: 104 noise-exposed workers were included in this study. The instrument used in this study was knowledge, attitude and preventive behavior of noise tool by Lee & Lee(1996). The first data were collected before the noise education from August to September, 2002. During 6 months, the education was provided, and then the second data were collected from April to May, 2003. Data were analyzed by SPSS 10.0 win program for finding frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, and ANOVA. Results: The results of this study were as follows: There were statistically significant differences of knowledge and attitude of noise related education level, and adhesion quality of wearing ear protection equipment after noise education. Also, otitis media's history, received education of the personal protective devices for the hearing conservation was significant in the preventive behaviour of noise. Conclusion: In conclusion, the noise-induced hearing loss prevention education was effective in changing the knowledge, attitude and the prevention behaviour of noise. Therefore, the noise-induced hearing loss prevention education is strongly recommended for noise-exposed workers and it will be necessary repeated education for changing prevention behaviour of noise.

방사선작업종사자의 방사선 지식정도와 안전관리에 대한 연구 (Study on Knowledge and Safety Management of Radiation Workers)

  • 본 연구는 원자력안전법에 의한 방사선작업종사자의 방사선지식정도와 안전관리 태도를 설문조사를 통해 알아보고 현재 상황 실태를 파악하여 사업장의 방사선 위험 저감 방법과 국민불안감 해소에 기여하는 지침서를 마련하기 위해 실시하였다. 2013년 5월부터 7월까지 500명의 정규 방사선작업종사자를 대상으로 30문항의 설문조사를 실시하였다. 설문응답결과를 바탕으로 방사선작업종사자의 일반적 특성과 방사선 업무 관련 특성에 따라 방사선 관련 지식정도와 방사선 작업 안전관리 정도에 대하여 분석하였다. 결과적으로 방사선작업종사자의 최종학력이 높을수록, 종사자 교육 횟수가 많을수록, 업무경력이 많을수록, 방사선 관련 면허 소지자일수록 방사선 관련 지식과 안전관리 태도 점수가 높게 나타났고, 방사선 관련 지식 점수가 높은 군이 안전관리 태도 점수도 대체적으로 높게 나타났다. 반면 산업체부문 방사선작업종사자는 방사선 관련 지식정도와 안전관리 태도 점수 모두 낮게 나타났다. 따라서 작업자의 특성을 고려한 수준별 교육이 필요하다. 특히 산업체 관련 종사자를 위한 특화된 커리큘럼에 따른 교육을 실시하여 사업장의 위험을 낮추고 국민 불안감 해소를 위해 노력할 필요가 있다고 사료된다.

한국청소년의 성실태고찰 (Implication for Korean Adolescent Sexuality)

  • Rapid socio-cultural and economic changes in the country has brought with it changes in the society's value system. For a traditional society that is increasingly being exposed to modernization but where sex norms are still very restrictive, the adolescent sexual mores takes on added significance. Adolescents are caught between two opposing forces, the changing environment that allows for freer and liberal mores and the traditional society that cannot keep pace with the changing environment and therefore demands resistance to changes. This paper focuses on problems of adolescent sexuality in this country and considers the countermeasures for the existing problems. Amongst the problems are: (a) increasingly younger age of the adolescents who start sexual intercourse (b) non-use of contraception, (c) unwanted pregnancies, (d) increase in the number of induced abortion and (e) increase in the number of unwanted children and unmarried mothers. The Korean adolescent's sexual behavior seems to follow that of the developed countries. In other words, many western modes of life and sexual values seem to bave been copied in Korea and yet Korean adolescents lack in their knowledge of sex related matters such as reproductive physiology and contraception. Among middle and high school students, female students are reported to have less knowledge on sex than male students according to a 1988 survey by KIPH. Even among the unmarried famale factory workers, only 42.5 percent replied they know of the condom, and 25.1 percent and 23.1 percent said they had knowledge of spermicide and menstrual regulation respectively. However, 14.9 percent and 13.9 percent reported that they had a knowledge of the loop and female sterilization respectively according to the 1984 study by KIPH. Among the middle school students 0.8 percent said they had experience in sexual intercourse, while 7.3 percent of the high school students reported having had sexual intercourse. The sexual intercourse experience rate among the unmarried female factory workers is 37.8 percent. Among those female factory workers with sexual experience, 46.7 percent had more than one sex partners. Only 39.1 percent of male students and 18.9 percent of female students among those with sexual intercourse experience have used contraceptives. mostly condoms and oral pills 45.1 percent of female factory workers with sexual intercourse experience used contraceptives such as pills, condoms and rhythm methods. The pregnancy experience rate among the female factory workers who had experience in sexual intercourse is 29.5 percent, which is 11.1 percent among the total respondents. Out of the 102 pregnant female workers, 98 workers(96.1 percent) terminated their pregnancy by induced abortion and 2 workders(2 percent) in natural abortion, while 1 worker(1 percent) was in pregnancy and another 1 worker had normal birth that was subsequently sent to orphanage. In order to cope with the problem of adolescent sexuality, a drastic and strong policy measures should be taken by the government. The most effective countermeasure to the adolescent sexual problems appears to the education. The sex and population education in the school is very much in need. In addition, sex education program through mass media and at the job sit-should be promoted for a healthy development of adolescents' sexual behavior. Also, the existing national family planning program, which has focused on the married couples, should be extended to the unmarried people in its scope and contents of the program.

일부 직장근로자들의 스켈링에 대한 인식과 관련요인 분석 (Analysis on some company workers' awareness of scaling and related factors)

  • Purpose: This research aims to investigate into company workers' awareness of scaling and related factors and provide basic materials for setting up appropriate policies to improve the hygiene of the mouth of industrial workers and developing training programs for the worker's hygiene of their mouth, as part of researches to establish schemes for improving the workers's hygiene of their mouth. Method: Questionnaire was conducted by convenience sampling for 220 office workers belonging to H Group located in Seoul Metropolitan city over about 5 weeks between December 17, 2007 and January 20, 2008. The questionnaire for this study was constructed in consideration of general characteristics of the subjects, behaviors of the dental management. and scaling. The collected questionnaires were electronically processed using SPSS 12.0. Result: The followings are the findings of this research. First, in general, scaling is experienced by male unmarried worker in their 40s. whose monthly average income is 1.00-1.99 million won and have little interest in the hygiene of their mouth and, consequently. whose hygiene of the mouth is not good. Second, scaling is experienced once every six months by the worker in their 50s or older, who are college graduates and have much interest in the hygiene of their mouth and, consequently. whose hygiene of the mouth is good. Third. scaling is not periodically conducted because of high costs of it in terms of almost every parameter of general characteristics. Fourth, they have correct knowledge of scaling since they regard it as 'removing of plaque and tartar' in terms of every parameter of general characteristics. Fifth, the workers' sex (pE0.05), hygienic condition of the mouth (pE0.05) and knowledge of scaling (pE0.001) have a significant effect on their scaling experience. Conclusion: It is considered that dental health management should be continued by training of the importance of prevention through scaling as measure for dental health promotion of workers.

근로자의 암 예방 건강행위 영향요인 (Factors Influencing Cancer Preventive Health Behaviors in Workers)

  • 본 연구는 근로자의 암에 대한 지식, 태도 및 예방적 건강행위 정도를 확인하고, 암 예방적 건강행위에 영향을 미치는 요인을 파악함으로써 근로자의 건강증진을 위한 표준화된 암 예방 프로그램에 기초자료를 제공하고자 한다. 연구대상은 일개 사업장의 5개 지역, 9개 공장에 근무 중인 근로자 723명이고 자료는 SPSS/WIN 20.0 프로그램을 이용하여 분석하였다. 연구결과, 암에 대한 지식의 평균 점수는 $10.52{\pm}4.02$(범위: 0~30)였고, 암에 대한 태도의 평균 점수는 $31.61{\pm}3.51$(범위: 10~50)였고, 암에 대한 예방적 건강행위의 평균 점수는 $62.37{\pm}9.05$(범위: 19~95)였다. 지각하는 건강상태, 암에 대한 태도, 흡연, 연령, 음주, 운동, 하루근무시간과 같은 변수가 암에 대한 예방적 건강행위를 40.3% 설명하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구 결과를 근거로 사업장 근로자의 상황에 적합한 암 예방적 건강행위 증진 프로그램 개발에 이용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

트랜스포터 교육을 위한 증강현실 기반의 Interactive U-Manual 시스템에 관한 연구 (A Study on Augmented Reality based Interactive U-Manual for the Education of Transporter)

  • As the workers are getting old, they need to be expert in their fields. Expertise is an invaluable means of shipbuilding industries because of the technological advancements. Therefore, the workers have to attend training seminars and upgrade their technical knowledge. In shipbuilding industries, most workers operate transporters based on experience not on learning from specialization in the shipyard. It is needed for the workers of transporters to be educated technical manual and system. Thus, this research shows that educational system which is interactive and very effective with Augmented Reality(AR) for the non-specialist workers. The educational interactive system based on AR is very supportive and worth for the workers. This study considers the system which makes the workers reduce malfunction of the products and mistakes.

물류센터 근로자의 안전인식에 대한 요인분석 및 집단간 인식 비교 (Factor Analysis and Intergroup Awareness Investigation of Workers' Safety in Logistic Center)

  • This study is to examine the workers' awareness of the safety in logistic centers. For that purpose, the exploratory factor analysis of workers' safety awareness in logistic centers was performed at first, and the 6 variables extracted from the factor analysis were then used to investigate the difference in intergroup awareness of the safety environment in the logistic centers. We administered a survey to 147 workers attending the logistic centers and collected data from them. The results of the study showed that the intergroup awareness of the safety environment turned out to be statistically different from each other in terms of working environment, safe behavior, work risk, safety knowledge and effort, risk justification and compromising attitudes. Experiences in industrial accidents influenced awareness of working environment, work risk and risk justification. The group who experienced accidents is more likely to feel risky and unsatisfied with working place, and their awareness toward risk justification was high as well. It was also observed that there exists awareness difference between manager group and worker group. The group who manages the working place showed more positive awareness of working environment, safe behavior, work risk, safety knowledge and effort, risk justification and compromising attitudes than the worker group. On the contrary, the worker group showed high recognition in risk of working place, and felt that they are willing to compromise on safety for increasing production. The scale of the logistic center produced negative influence on awareness of safety. The group in small logistic center showed the highest awareness in safety, whereas the group in large logistic center with more than 100 workers showed the highest awareness in risk. They are more likely to deviate from correct and safe work procedures due to over-familiarity with the job, as well. The findings suggest that there is a need for the safety management and education to change the workers' understanding and attitudes towards safety.
