A Study on the Current Status and Librarian Perception of Readers' Advisory in Korean University Libraries: A focus on Leisure Reading

  • This study attempted to establish the role of university libraries for leisure reading by identifying the current status of university libraries about leisure reading, which is a part of the reading support service and by investigating and analyzing the university library librarian's percep tion of the necessity of leisure reading. To this end, a survey was conducte d on university libraries. As a result of the survey, 78% of university libraries were conducting leisure reading, and 72% of them provided separate space. Separate manpower was provided only in 30% of libraries, and book lists were provided mainly by best sellers. Regarding the need for leisure reading (4.28) and the role of university libraries (4.32), librarians responded that it was a necessary service for university libraries, and university library librarians that currently provide spaces and program s were more aware of the need.

  • The dependence on cars for urban mobility and the exponential increase in traffic and urban infrastructure to sustain traffic have lead to an encapsulated way of life, where the connection with the natural environment is much more reduced and programmed. In a previous study, a process based on estimating distances showed that children who move around their city by automobile do not appreciate their environment as a spatial continuum, but rather as a series of independent spaces that are reached by automobile or bus, thereby evidencing a different way of conceptualizing urban space in the light of different cognitive structures (Goluboff, Garc$\acute{i}$a-Mira, and Garc$\acute{i}$a-Font$\acute{a}$n, 2002). The present study is concerned with the process of understanding and knowledge of urban space, and contrasting the cognitive structure of different groups. The implications that this study may have for urban planning are discussed.

트리플 힐릭스 공간 구축을 통한 클러스터의 경로파괴적 진화: 미국 리서치트라이앵글파크 사례 (Sustaining Cluster Evolution through Building the Triple-Helix Spaces: The Case of the Research Triangle Park, USA)

  • 1950년대에 조성된 RTP는 계획적으로 조성된 첨단 산-학 복합단지임과 동시에 외생적 발전 전략으로 클러스터 기반을 구축한 후, 성장 과정에서 내생적 발전 역량을 갖추게 된 흥미로운 사례이다. 본 논문에서는 외생적 발전 전략에 의해 계획적으로 조성된 RTP가 어떻게 성공적인 진화 경로를 밟게 되었는지, 그 과정과 요인을 트리플 힐릭스 공간의 구축 과정을 통해 분석하였다. RTP의 클러스터 형성 초기에는 지식 공간의 존재와 역할이 중요했으나, RTP의 고도성장기에 지식 공간이 미친 영향은 상대적으로 미흡했다. 반면에, NC 과학기술위원회는 트리플 힐릭스 합의 공간으로서, RTP의 조성단계에서부터 지금까지 클러스터의 경로파괴적 진화를 견인한 핵심 주체라고 할 수 있다. 그리고 RTP의 지속적 진화 과정에는 노스캐롤라이나 생명공학연구센터(NCBC)와 노스캐롤라이나 마이크로일렉트릭센터(MCNC) 등과 같은 혁신 공간은 클러스터의 트리플 힐릭스 상호작용을 유발하는 핵심 중개기관의 역할을 수행했다. 오늘날, RTP에는 합의 공간을 중심으로 지식 공간과 혁신 공간이 연계되는 구조를 통해 트리플 힐릭스 공간이 구축되어 있으며, 이를 통해 기존 산업 생태계의 역동성을 유지하면서도 새로운 산업 생태계가 성장하는 이른바 역동적 진화 구조를 나타내고 있다.

농촌성과 도시성의 인식론적 이해 (Epistemological Understandings of Urbanism and Rurality)

  • The discussion of this paper is concerned with the epistemology of urbanism and rurality, that is, the justification of certain knowledge claims about how to intervene in understanding of urban and rural way of life and their implications to space. It is not concerned with the search for "truth" as such, but rather with the construction and presentation of knowledge as truth that subsequently lead to interpretation in the form of scholarly arguments. Rural areas vary considerably, and we define it as of a socially constructed category and so does urban as a comparative construction. As with community, rurality has been defined in widely different ways so has urbanism. In identifying and interconnecting these two concepts, we incorporate diverse western epistemologies such as empiricism and pragmatism. In addition, we heed particular attention to the intellectual history of Silhak, a philosophical ideology of Korea, to identify the relationships and it's effect on social way of life encompassing the realm of rural and urban spaces. We found that Silhak is particularly useful in that it deals with substantive issues of the relationship between rurality and urbanism arising from the discordance between values and perceive conditions of the rural and urban way of lives. This paper argues that the epistemology of Silhak is particularly superior to those of western ideologies since it accentuates unity of spaces rather than differentiating urban and rural way of life. We concludes with demanding more studies in the field of urban and rural analyses incorporating more diverse concepts of Korean orthodox epistemology.

  • Utilization of information and communication technologies is commonly accepted as important to value creation in the knowledge economy. Nevertheless, empirical findings from our business case studies often show that while sophisticated technological tools may be developed, the potentials are not realized. It is evident that technology is subject to adaptive and emergent strategies of use, diverging from the original intention. Within this space of opportunities, we elaborate the importance of constructing strategic concepts as communication tools to support organisational implementation of technologies. We use the concept of organisational implementation as a way of taking the technology into use in order to support changes and value creation in the user organisation. In this paper we present our findings related to how use and experiences are conditioned by the users' expectations. We have conducted a business case study in order to understand and explore how users employ and use a particular wireless technology infrastructure. On behalf of the infrastructure vendor, we have studied three different organisations that use this technology. The overall research goal of our joint research project was to find out what is good use and for whom. We find that users struggle to go beyond the expectations they had when they were conceptualising and telling us about their practice. We have good indications that a narrowed consciousness was also conditioning the users' use of the technology. In this paper we draw the conclusion that technological implementations towards changing work practices and value creation must not be viewed by the company solely as a knowledge acquisition process, but as a process of knowledge creation. Organisational implementation is an ongoing process, a learning process at both the organisational and individual level. Flexible tools and technologies are constituted and shaped in interaction and communication in the workplace. Based on that knowledge, we build up an argument for an organisational implementation framework, including strategic discussions, learning spaces, and concept constructions.

지능형 가상인간의 공간적 행동을 모사하기 위한 지식구조 (Knowledge Structures to Simulate the Spatial Behavior of Intelligent Virtual Humans)

  • 가상세계 기반 몰입형 가정교사 시스템을 개발하기 위해 상황의 다양성과 사실성을 최대화하기 위한 공간적 측면에서의 시뮬레이션을 개발하고자 한다. 이를 위해서는 가상공간의 모델링과 함께 가상인간들의 지식 및 지능적 사유기능이 필요하다. 먼저 공간의 계층적이고 다면적인 구성과 그에 상응하는 가상인간들의 지식을 모사하기 위한 정보구조가 필요하다. 구체적으로 2.5차원 공간분포표현, 복잡한 공간관계표현, 객체표현, 사건들의 시공간적 표현을 위한 네 개의 구조를 각각 개발한다. 그리고 이와 같이 표현된 지식을 사용하여 공간적인 이동을 하는데 필요한 가상인간의 공간적 사유 기능을 개발한다. 일반적으로 사건은 힘을 매개로 인접하거나 연결된 다른 객체들에게도 연쇄적으로 영향을 미쳐서 다양한 상황들이 펼쳐지며 관련된 가상인간들이 다음 행동을 계획하는 데에 반영된다. 이를 위해 시공간 표현구조 상에 역사적 흐름에 따라 사건들의 전개를 기록한다. 전형적 사건을 구현하여 가상인간의 복잡한 공간속에서의 자주적 행동의 실현가능성을 보여준다.

  • 코비드-19는 사무실 등 특정 공간 내에 사람들의 모임을 최소화할 것을 요구하고 있다. 조직들은 네트워크를 지원하는 온라인 플랫폼 기술을 활용하여, 조직원 간의 정보공유 활동을 장려하고 있다. 최근, 메타버스 플랫폼이 보유한 공간, 경험 등의 실재감 요소가 교환 행동에 도움이 될 수 있다는 관점이 제시되면서, 조직들은 메타버스를 활용한 업무 지원 수준을 높이고 있다. 본 연구는 메타버스 실재감이 조직원의 내적 동기 형성을 통해 지식공유 의도에 미치는 영향과 개인의 디지털 기술 역량의 차이에 의해 지식공유 의도 차이가 존재할 수 있음을 확인하고자 한다. 연구는 가상 현실 등 선행연구를 통해 연구가설을 제시하였으며, 서베이를 통해 확보한 309개 표본을 활용하여 가설 검증을 하였다. 결과는 메타버스의 사회적, 원격, 자기 실재감이 조직 관련 내적 동기(조직 동일시, 가치 일치)를 높여 지식공유 의도에 긍정적 영향을 주었다. 또한, 디지털 기술 역량이 가치 일치와 지식공유 의도 간의 관계를 조절하였다. 본 연구는 메타버스를 활용하여 업무 생산성을 높이고자 하는 조직에 있어 메타버스 실재감 강화의 중요성과 개인의 디지털 역량 강화 지원의 필요성을 제언한다.

실내건축의 욕망유형을 통한 욕망구조 특성에 관한 연구 -라깡의 욕망이론을 중심으로- (A Study on the Desire Structure through the Desire Type of Interior Architecture -Focus on the Lacan's Desire-theory-)

  • `Desire` in this study is not something desire in the used to be-way we can deal with it. This study is to figure out 'desire structure' of interior architecture as a significant measure to interpret the Lacan's desire theory. It is also examines Lacan's concept of desire as defined in the mechanisms of language, in relation to architecture and interior architecture, and in the concept of the objet a(the unattainable object of desire), in the structure of desire as it can be seen in interior architecture. In particular, it analyzed that the desire structure have influenced on some kind of specific desire types what is expressed a characteristic to interior spaces of intimacy, perpetuity, representation, expression. These types reveal the characteristics of desire structure in inner space of interior architecture through negativing and fantasying. The focus on the structure becomes a major issue in almost many kinds of contemporary knowledge-system that starts from the mind to go out to the space in a material or non-meterial(spiritual) way. Therefore, the desire structure reconstructs the Real to make itself through negative and fantastic creation-process. It is important that desire characteristics help detect behind beneath the singularity of interior spaces more than what we know.

한국어 교재의 행 바꾸기 -띄어쓰기와 읽기 능력의 계발 - (Examining Line-breaks in Korean Language Textbooks: the Promotion of Word Spacing and Reading Skills)

  • This study investigates issues in relation to text segmenting, in particular, line breaks in Korean language textbooks. Research on L1 and L2 reading has shown that readers process texts by chunking (grouping words into phrases or meaningful syntactic units) and, therefore, phrase-cued texts are helpful for readers whose syntactic knowledge has not yet been fully developed. In other words, it would be important for language textbooks to avoid awkward syntactic divisions at the end of a line, in particular, those textbooks for beginners and intermediate level learners. According to our analysis of a number of major Korean language textbooks for beginner-level learners, however, many textbooks were found to display line-breaks of awkward syntactic division. Moreover, some textbooks displayed frequent instances where a single word (or eojeol in the case of Korean) is split between different lines. This can hamper not only learners' learning of the rules of spaces between eojeols in Korean, but also learners' development in automatic word recognition, which is an essential part of reading processes. Based on the findings of our textbook analysis and of existing research on reading, this study suggests ways to overcome awkward line-breaks in Korean language textbooks.

실내공간구성을 위한 시각 프로그래밍 언어 기반 3차원 가상현실 저작도구 개발에 관한 연구 (Developing a Visual Programming Language-based Three-dimensional Virtual Reality Authoring Tool to Compose Virtual Interior Space)

  • This paper presents an attempt to develop a visual programming language-based 3D virtual reality authoring tool intended to compose virtual interior space. The rapid development of digital technology and the wide spread of the Intenet have expanded the different uses of virtual reality in a number of applications ranging from interior design to building maintenance. In particular, the construction of cyber spaces based on existing interior spaces is becoming increasingly important. Current research, however, remains at the level of converting 3D models into virtual reality models, despite practitioners' needs for structural space models. Moreover, commercial tools to build virtual reality space have the disadvantage of targeting people who have professional knowledge of computer programs and computer graphics. Accordingly, the 3D virtual reality authoring tool developed in this research - called the VESL system - enables virtual and structural space to be easily composed using intuitive and interactive visual interfaces, which are based on visual programming techniques. The VESL system also provides an XML based semantic description of interior space, to be used to describe interior space information. We anticipate that the virtual reality spaces composed by this system will be of considerable use in the fields of architecture and interior design. Further research issues identified at the end of the research include developing a converter/filter for transforming Internet virtual reality standard language, or VRML, and evaluating the application of the system for practical use.
