시스템 다이나믹스를 이용한 기술혁신의 동태성 분석 (A Dynamic Analysis of Technological Innovation Using System Dynamics)

  • This paper describes a comprehensive approach to examine how technological innovation contributes to the renewal of the firm's competences through its dynamic and reciprocal relationship with R&D and product commercialization. Three theories of technology and innovation (R&D and technological knowledge concept, product-process concept, technological interdependence concept) are used to relate technology and innovation to strategic management. Based on those theories, this paper attempts to identify dynamic relationship between product innovation and process innovation by system dynamics, by investigating the aspect of the dynamic changes of the closed feedback circulation structure in which R&D investments drive technological knowledge accumulation, and such knowledge accumulation actualizes product innovation and process innovation, subsequently resulting in the increase of productivity, customer satisfaction, profit generation, and re-investment on R&D from the created profits. This provides the ability to assess the advantages and disadvantages of different technological innovation strategies and commitments, and the opportunity to explore equilibrium point and suggest a generalized technological innovation model under different industry environment parameters and time-strategies.

  • 21세기 인류는 AI 실용 시대를 열어 가고 있다. 이제껏 인류는 산업 구조가 고도화 되어도 지식 생산의 추상화 작업 만큼은 자신의 고유 영역이라 보았는 데 그 믿음에 의구심을 갖게 되었고, 이에 현대인은 인간과 기계 지능을 구분하고 자신의 정체성을 새롭게 구축해야 하는 상황에 놓이게 되었다. 이에 본 논문은 현대 인류의 정체성을 과거로부터 축적한 지식의 결과라는 관점에서 살피고자 하였다. 이러한 논의를 지구와 인류 출현으로부터 시작하는 "단계별 지식 축적 방식의 변화" 라는 역사 모형으로 요약하여 제시하였다. 이 분석 모형의 1 단계는 지구 상에 인간 지능 출현까지의 "DNA 지식 축적" 이다. 2단계는 스스로 지식을 생산할 수 있게 된 인간의 생물학적 지능에 의한 "문명 지식 축적" 과정이다. 현재는 3단계로 분류되며 AI 기술을 이용한 "기계적 지식 축적"단계로 진입하고 있다고 보았다. 본 논문은 인류 역사를 이러한 단계별 지식 축적 모형으로 제안하며 관련한 논의를 기술하였다.

  • The mechanism of knowledge production in the basic science has been changed throughout the development process in Korea. During the 1970s, the focus resides in the support of individual scientists while it concentrated on the support of research organization, centered on center of excellence from the 1980s. The change in the sup-porting mechanism to basic science result in the transformation of knowledge production system in the university and impact on the behavior of individual scientists. This paper focuses on the co-evolution process between newly adopted supporting program for basic science and the knowledge production system via the case study of representative program of center of excellence supporting program in Korea.

  • For decades, thousands of corporation introduced knowledge management systems to respond knowledge-based society. However, it seems that the systems merely focusing on knowledge accumulation and its sharing have been bounded by many restrictions in terms of new knowledge creation based on the life cycle of knowledge management systems. Moreover, recently, a variety of knowledge management activities regarding organization, systems, and process is emphasized as a strategic asset for a corporation to create core knowledge. Therefore, this study adopted the Csikszentmihalyi's flow theory to investigate the factors affecting knowledge creation and the success factors of knowledge management systems in virtual space. Prior studies argued that flow experience should be a prerequisite for creative knowledge creation. In that vein, this research revealed the causal relationships for flow experience between the determinants of clear goal, immediate feedback, congruence of challenge and skill. Additionally, it empirically examined how flow experience affected the exploratory behavior of knowledge creation.

  • This Paper analyses characteristics of the numerical controller industry in market formation and the flow of information between users and producers and the characteristic of knowledge base of the industry and discusses the difficulties derived, from the characteristics, in accumulation of technological capability In market formation between users and producers, the multi-layered market is not favorable to domestic producers in that lower end market is not large enough to provide cradle market to them which produce inferior quality and lower price than imported products. The credibility of the performance of a product is difficult to prove until a critical mass of products are sold. Therefore gaining market share is deterred by unproven credibility of the performance of the product. The flow of information between users and producers is limited. The flow of information on users environment through mass market to producers is essential for improving credibility of a product. The nature of knowledge base is tacit and the means of knowledge transmission is limited. Technological licensing and reverse engineering, which have been conventional means of knowledge transmission, are not useful in the numerical controller industry. These characteristics provide conditions of vicious circle in accumulation of technological capability of the numerical controller industry. It is conjectured that these characteristics are derived from the fact that the numerical controller is the result of IT based technological convergence in controlling machining process. This paper argues that these characteristics of the industry challenges existing approach to R&D management and framework of science and technology Policy.

영화산업의 자본조달구조와 지식축적과정에 대한 공간적 고찰: 한국과 미국 영화산업의 비교를 통하여 (Financing and Knowledge Accumulation in the Film Industry: Spatial Characteristics of Korean and American Film Industry)

  • 본 연구에서는 영화산업이 특정 지역이나 대도시에 집적되어 있다는 기존 연구 결과와 달리 미국 애니메이션 영화산업이 분산되어 나타나고 있는 현상을 포착하고 이를 설명하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 프로젝트 기반 생산으로 이루어지는 영화산업의 생산 특성상 생산의 개시 여부를 결정하는 투자와 생산의 진행과 완료에 해당하는 제작 모두 포괄하고, 각 단계의 가장 핵심적인 자원인 자본과 지식이 반복적으로 동원되고 조직화되는 과정에서 공간적 분포와 특성이 드러난다는 전제 하에 산업의 경제 공간 형성 메커니즘을 자본조달과 지식축적으로 재구성하였다. 이를 토대로 자본조달구조와 지식축적과정 각각을 유형화하여 한국과 미국의 실사영화산업과 애니메이션영화산업을 분석하였다. 그 결과 한국의 실사영화산업과 애니메이션영화산업에서는 외부금융형 자본조달구조와 외부동원형 생산조직 및 지식축적과정이 나타났고 공간적으로도 주요 행위자들이 일정 지역에 모여 있었다. 미국 실사영화산업의 경우 외부 금융형 자본조달구조와 내부금융형 자본조달구조가 양립하고 있었으며, 외부동원형 생산조직 및 지식축적과정이 나타났고 공간적으로도 주요 행위자들이 일정 지역에 모여 있었다. 이와 달리 내부금융형 자본조달구조와 내부활용형생산조직 및 지식축적과정을 채택하고 있는 미국 애니메이션영화산업에 속한 기업들은 집적의 필요를 적극적으로 부정하고 서로 분산되어 나타나고 있었다. 따라서 본 연구 결과는 기존 영화산업 연구에 중대한 반론을 제기함과 동시에 그 동인으로서 그간 프로젝트 기반 생산 연구에서 소외되었던 자본조달에 대한 관심을 환기시키고, 지식, 특히 인적자본과 그 외부성에 천착했던 연구에서 벗어나 고정비용 투자를 통한 기술 개발이 산업의 공간적 분포에 미치는 영향을 탐색했다는 데 의의가 있다.

SEPOX (selective poly oxidation) process에서 Si-buffer layer에 발생하는 pinhole 현상에 대한 연구 (Si-buffer pinholes in the SEPOX (selective poly oxidation) process)

  • We propose a mechanism for the formation of pinholes in the Si-buffer layer, through the observations with varying the process- and structure variables in the SEPOX (selective poly-oxidation) process, an isolation method for sub-u DRAMs. Pinholes are formed through the accumulation of Si vacancies generated by the oxidation of Si, in which Si atoms leave the sites (vacancies) at the Si/SiO$_{2}$ interfaces and diffuse into the oxide to be oxidized near interface. In the course of the accumulation of Si-vacancies, the stress induced in the Si-buffer layer affects the migration of vacancies to result in the final size and distribution of pinholes. This paper may be, to our knowledge, the first report about the oxidation-induced pinhole in the Si/SiO$_{2}$ system.

  • This study aims at integrating the sociological study of technology and the economic study of technological learning. It is argued that the sociological approaches of innovation have some strong points in criticizing technological determinism, but have some weak points in explaining how the knowledge base for innovation is accumulated. On the contrary, the economic approaches of innovation have strong points in explaining technology accumulation, but ignore socio-political process of innovation. This study suggests the model which integrates the socio-political process and technological loaming process.

The Sources and Directions of Technological Capability Accumulation in Korean Semiconductor industry

  • In this paper we analyze the technological accumulation processes in the Korean semiconductor industry from the institutional approach. Institutional approach, which is closely connected with Neo-Schumpeterian tradition, has emerged as an alternative theoretical framework to neoclassical approach to understand the process of producing technological knowledge. Traditional wisdom of neoclassical approach revealed the limitation to explain the complex nature of knowledge creation and diffusion. US patent data are analyzed in terms of the increasing trend of numbers and its content to measure the rate and direction of technological capability accumulation. This analysis shows that semiconductor technologies are one of the fastest growing fields among Korean technological activities. Moreover, the analysis of patent content suggests that fabrication technologies are the most important area within the technological development of semiconductors, whilst circuit design and testing technologies are beginning to increase in significance. In addition, it is examined how private sectors and public institutions have contributed to generate technological capabilities, and the relationship between them has been changed during the development processes. It is found that Korean firms enhanced their technological capabilities from the learning and assimilation of imported technology to enhanced in-house R&D capabilities in the later stage. The support of public institution and government policy also played significant role to this successful transformation in conjunction with vigorous R&D investment of public sector.
