The main route of metabolism of isonicotinic acid hydrazid (INH) in man is its conjugation with acetyl coenzyme A to form acetyl-INH. The reaction is catalyzed by an N-acetyl transferase in the liver. The acetylated drug can be excreted by the kidney more efficiently than INH, and the biological half-life of the drug in the body depends upon how rapidly the drug can be acetylated. This report measured the concentration of INH in the blood of 147 individuals 6 hours after they received a standard dose (9.8mg/kg) and plotted the data as a frequeney distribution hiotogram. There was bimodality, with a mean for one subpopulation at approximately $0.6{\sim}0.8\;mcg/ml.$, and a mean for the other subpopulation between 2.8 and 4.0mcg/ml. As might be expected slow acetylators of INH are more likely to develop a cumulative toxicity to the drug. The principle ,toxicity to INH is a peripheral neuritis but this adverse effect can be prevented by given extra pyridoxin to the patients, and the vitamin does not alter the antitubercular activity of INH. This report carried out that pyridoxine does not alter the ratio of free INH to the total INH in blood.
Vitamin D is present in two forms, ergocalciferol (vitamin $D_2$) produced by plants and cholecalciferol (vitamin $D_3$) produced by animal tissues or by the action of ultraviolet light on 7-dehydrocholesterol in human skin. Both forms of vitamin D are biologically inactive pro-hormones that must undergo sequential hydroxylations in the liver and the kidney before they can bind to and activate the vitamin D receptor. The hormonally active form of vitamin D, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 $[1,25(OH)_2D]$, plays an essential role in calcium and phosphate metabolism, bone growth, and cellular differentiation. Renal synthesis of $1,25(OH)_2D$ from its endogenous precursor, 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD), is the rate-limiting and is catalyzed by the $1{\alpha}$-hydroxylase. Vitamin D dependent rickets type I (VDDR-I), also referred to as vitamin D $1{\alpha}$-hydroxylase deficiency or pseudovitamin D deficiency rickets, is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized clinically by hypotonia, muscle weakness, growth failure, hypocalcemic seizures in early infancy, and radiographic findings of rickets. Characteristic laboratory features are hypocalcemia, increased serum concentrations of parathyroid hormone (PTH), and low or undetectable serum concentrations of $1,25(OH)_2D$ despite normal or increased concentrations of 25OHD. Recent advances have showed in the cloning of the human $1{\alpha}$-hydroxylase and revealed mutations in its gene that cause VDDR-I. This review presents the biology of vitamin D, and $1{\alpha}$-hydroxylase mutations with clinical findings.

Sirtuin proteins are evolutionary conserved Sir2-related $NAD^+$-dependent deacetylases and regulate many of cellular processes such as metabolism, inflammation, transcription, and aging. Sirtuin contains activity of either ADP-ribosyltransferase or deacetyltranfease and their activity is dependent on the localization in cells. However, the expression pattern of Sirtuins has not been well studied. To examine the expression levels of Sirtuins, RT-PCR was performed using total RNAs from various tissues including liver, small intestine, heart, brain, kidney, lung, spleen, stomach, uterus, ovary, and testis. Sirtuins were highly expressed in most of tissues including the testis. Immunostaining assay showed that Sirt1 and Sirt6 were mainly located in the nucleus of germ cells, spermatocytes, and spermatids in the seminiferous tubules, whereas Sirt2 and Sirt5 were exclusively present in the cytoplasm of germ cells and spermatocytes. Our results indicate that Sirtuins may function as regulators of spermatogenesis and their activities might be dependent on their location in the seminiferous tubules.
The effects of vitamin B6 deficiency on energy utilization during fasting or underfeeding were studied in rats. Fifteen rats were fed a vitamin B6 deficient(-B6) diet and another 15 rats wee fed a control (+B6) diet. These rats were fed for 5 weeks with respective diet, and then subdivided into 3 groups : non-fasted group, fasted group, underfed group. Rats of the fasted group were fasted for 3 days and those of underfed group for 6 days. At the respective time (non-fast, 3 day-fast, 6 day-underfeed at 5 weeks), animals were sacrificed. Feed efficiency ratio of - B6 rats was significantly lower than that of +B6 rats. In - B6 rats, the liver and kidney weights were significantly heavier than those of +B6 rats but spleen and heart weights were not. In non-fasted group, liver protein and triglyceride level of - B6 rats were significantly higher than that of +B6 rats. After - B6 rats were fasted for 3 days, plasma free fatty acid level was significantly lower but liver glycogen level was higher than that of +B6 rats and muscle protein level of +B6 was decreased while that of - B6 was not changed. Vitamin B6 deficiency had little effect on the energy utilization with 6 days underfeeding. These results suggest that vitamin B6 deficiency may impair the utilization of stored fuel during fasting.
Male reproductive function seems to have deteriorated considerably in the past 4 to 5 decades. It was observed a significant decline in mean sperm counts from $113{\times}10^6/ml$ in 1940 to $66{\times}10^6/ml$ in 1990; a fall of $0.94{\times}10^6/ml/year$. We reported that Yacon tuber extracts have spermatogenic effects in rat. In the present study, we tested the spermatogenic effect of Yacon tuber extracts in healthy male volunteers. Subjects were assigned randomly to the control group and the Yacon ethanol extracts administered group (each 12 subjects). And, placebo or Yacon tuber extracts (100 ml) were administered two times daily, by oral for 3 months. Sperm numbers, biochemical parameters and hormone levels were recorded before starting administration, then every month. The Yacon tuber extracts administered group showed significant time dependant increases in according to administration period. Especially, the numbers of sperm increased by 54% after 3 months of administration. And, in Yacon tuber extracts administered group, testosterone and estradiol level were significantly higher than placebo group. On the other hands, Yacon tuber extracts didn't show any toxicity in glucose and lipid metabolism and liver and kidney function. The results of the present study suggest that Yacon tuber extract is a possible therapeutic for the treatment of sperm deficiency.
The objective of this study was to estimate the possibility of use as a crude feed about Korean pine foliage. Foliage was fermented aerobic and anaerobic state. And then, it was fed Korean native bull 5 to 6 month old. Bulls were fed control (n=4), aerobic fermented (n=4) and anaerobic fermented (n=4) feed 30 percent of total ration. Bulls were examined with blood sample and body weight on day 0, 60, 120 and 180. There were no differences on complete blood cell count serum chemistry and incidence of disease among groups for experiment period. Also, electrolytes (Ca, Mg, P) balance were good condition. Experimental feed did not induced toxicosis in kidney and liver, Fermented foliage and leaves of Korean softwood were efficient crude feed in carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism. Experimental feed induced growth of Korean native bull body weight in growing stage without retard. In addition to anaerobic fermented feed has a more higher growth rate than control feed. Our conclusion is that fermented softwood substitute some part of ration, minimum 30 percent, in growing stage of a Korean native bull.
This study was performed to investigate nutritional effect and the utilization possibility of rapeseed oil which could replace the imported edible oils and oil crops. The proximate compositions of a recommendable cultivar(Mokpo Dangyo 19) and a native kind(Asahi) and the characteristics of these rapeseed oils were analyzed. The animal experiment of these rapeseed oils was carried out during 8 weeks of growing periods after weanling. Forty male weanling Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to 3 diet groups of Dangyo 19 oil, Asahi oil and commercial Soybean oil. Mokpo Dangyo 19 variety contained more lipids than Asahi variety by 8% and there was no difference in physiochemical characteristics between Dangyo 19 oil and Asahi oil except that erucic acid was contained little in Dangyo 19 oil but 50% in Asahi oil. Body weight gain, FER(Feed efficiency ratio) and PER(Protein efficiency ratio) of rats fed Dangyo 19 oil were higher than those of rats fed Asahi oil and organ weights such as liver, kidney and epididymal fat pads weights of rats fed Dangyo 19 oil were significantly higher(P<0.05) thanthose of rats fed Asahi oil. the apparent digistibility of total diet and total lipid were higher in rats fed the diets containing Dangyo 19 oil than Asahi oil. The content of total lipid in heart in heart were not significantly different with dietary oil kinds. The content of total lipid in liver increased with age in all rapeseed oil groups.

The present study has been undertaken to investigate the effect of plantaginis semen extract on lipid composition and activities of several enzymes in lard administrated rats. Forth male rats of Sprague-Dawley strain with average weight of 130$\pm$10g were divided into four groups[basal diet(BD)], basal+plantaginis semen(BP), basal+lard(BL) and basal+plantaginis semen+lard(BLP). Lard administrated groups showed increase in weight gain and that of BLP group significantly increased. Feed intake showed no significant differences with lard administration. The weights of liver, kidney and heart of the rat were not affected by plantagins semen and lard administration. Serum and liver triglyceride and cholesterol contents significantly increased compared to BD group but significantly decreased by the addition of plantaginis semen extract(BLP group). Serum and liver phsophlipids decreased in lard administrated group but effectively restored by administration of plantaginis semen extract. HDL-cholesterol content significantly decreased in lard-fed group and somewhat increased in plantaginis semen extract group. Serum aminotransferase, lactate dehydrogenase activities significantly increased in lard fed group but addition of plntginis semen extract significantly decreased the enzyme activities compared with that of lard administrated group.

Perspiration is the product of metabolism and the resin comes out through the hole of skin. And it keeps constant with heart and blood. So, it has great meaning in the clinical medicine and it is closely connected with the qi, blood, body fluid and viscera in our body. In the oriental medicine it is said that when our body is attacked with the evil qi and it locates in the surface of our body, we must induce the perspiration and it is called 'Method of Perspiration'. If we use that method we should refer the contraindication, and historical doctors stressed the need of deliberate use. However, the moderns have the misunderstandings about the perspiration. When they have alcoholic trouble and feel fatigue, they wring out the sweat. And they think that doing has good results. They even sweat off their surplus fat. But, that doing is rashly as that is an energy-consuming behavior and it shorten one's span of life because of the running dry of the resin. Therefore, we must use very carefully the 'Method of Perspiration' and not wring out the sweat rashly.
Doing CABG in patient with renal transplantation requires special concern to keep and preserve renal function safely during and after operation. We experienced two cases of CABG for treatment of myocardial ischemia. who underwent renal transplantation 2 and 3 years ago respectively. The first patient received single reversed saphenous vein graft at LAD and second one received double saphenous vein graft at LAD and OMI. Peri & postoperative urinary volume and renal function test were comparable with preoperative status in both cases. Although abnormal lipid metabolism due to long term use of immunosuppressive regimen act a causative role in development and progression of coronary artherosclerosis in renal transplantation patient, CABG can be done safely with some precaution including maintenance of adequate mean blood pressure and blood level of immunosupressive regimen during cardiopulmonary bypass.
