  • In this paper, the random key pre-distribution scheme introduced in ACM CCS'02 by Eschenauer and Gligor is reexamined, and a generalized form of key establishment is introduced. As the communication overhead is one of the most critical constraints of any successful protocol design, we introduce an alternative scheme in which the connectivity is maintained at the same level as in the original work, while the communication overhead is reduced by about 40% of the original overhead, for various carefully chosen parameters. The main modification relies on the use of a two-level key pool design and two round assignment/key establishment phases. Further analysis demonstrates the efficiency of our modification.

  • This letter presents a pairwise key establishment scheme that is robust against the compromise of nodes in mobile ad hoc networks. Each node establishes local keys with its neighbor nodes that are at most three hops away at network boot-up time. When any two nodes establish a pairwise key, they receive the secret information from the nodes on the route between them, and construct the pairwise key using the secret information. Here, the local keys are utilized by the nodes on the route to send the secret information securely. The simulation results have proven that the proposed scheme provides better security than the key pre-distribution-based scheme.

  • Underwater Acoustic Sensor Networks(UASN) enables varied study from collected data of underwater environments such as pollution monitoring, disaster prevention. The collected data is transmitted from underwater to terrestrial communication entity by acoustic communication. Because of the constraints of underwater environments include low data rate and propagation delay, it is difficult to apply cryptographic techniques of terrestrial wireless communication to UASN. For this reason, if the cryptographic techniques are excluded, then collected data will be exposed to security threats, such as extortion and forgery, during transmission of data. So, the cryptographic techniques, such as the authentication and key establishment protocol which can confirm reliability of communication entities and help them share secret key for encryption of data, must need for protecting transmitted data against security threats. Thus, in this paper, we propose the light weight authentication and key establishment protocol.

  • We can obtain useful information by deploying large scale sensor networks in various situations. Security is also a major concern in sensor networks, and we need to establish pairwise keys between sensor nodes for secure communication. In this paper, we propose new pairwise key establishment mechanism based on clustering and polynomial sharing. In the mechanism, we divide the network field into clusters, and based on the polynomial-based key distribution mechanism we create bivariate Polynomials and assign unique polynomial to each cluster. Each pair of sensor nodes located in the same cluster can compute their own pairwise keys through assigned polynomial shares from the same polynomial. Also, in our proposed scheme, sensors, which are in each other's transmission range and located in different clusters, can establish path key through their clusterheads. However, path key establishment can increase the network overhead. The number of the path keys and tine for path key establishment of our scheme depend on the number of sensors, cluster size, sensor density and sensor transmission range. The simulation result indicates that these schemes can achieve better performance if suitable conditions are met.

  • Mobile Ad-Hoc network tends to expose scarce computing resources and various security threats because all traffics are carried in air along with no central management authority. To provide secure communication and save communication overhead, a scheme is inevitable to serurely establish session keys. However, most of key establishment methods for Ad-Hoc network focus on the distribution of a group key to all hosts and/or the efficient public key management. In this paper, a secure and efficient scheme is proposed to establish a session key between two Ad-Hoc nodes. The proposed scheme makes use of the secret sharing mechanism and the Diffie-Hellman key exchange method. For secure intra-cluster communication, each member node establishes session keys with its clusterhead, after mutual authentication using the secret shares. For inter-cluster communication, each node establishes session keys with its correspondent node using the public key and Diffie-Hellman key exchange method. The simulation results prove that the proposed scheme is more secure and efficient than that of the Clusterhead Authentication Based Method(1).

  • In order to protect an exchanged data, it is indispensable to establish a peer-to-peer key between the two communicating nodes. Pre-distributing keys among the nodes is unrealistic in Ad-Hoc network environment because of the dynamic nature of its network topology and the equal authority of its nodes. This paper presents a peer-to-peer key establishment scheme without pre-distributing keys in Ad-Hoc networks. The proposed scheme is based on the Diffie-Hellman key exchange protocol. Main idea is to prevent the falsification of Diffe-Hellman values using some elements of a hash chain. As a result, it is as safe as the underlying hash function against a man-in-the-middle attack. Simulation results have shown that the proposed scheme dramatically reduces the number of messages, and has relatively higher scalability, as compared with the key pre-distribution based scheme.

  • The current pre-distribution of secret keys uses a-composite random key and it randomly allocates keys. But there exists high probability not to be public-key among nodes and it is not efficient to find public-key because of the problem for time and energy consumption. We presents key establishment scheme designed to satisfy authentication and confidentiality, without the need of a key distribution center. Proposed scheme is scalable since every node only needs to hold a small number of keys independent of the network size, and it is resilient against node capture and replication due to the fact that keys are localized. In simulation result, we estimate process time of parameter used in proposed scheme and efficiency of Proposed scheme even if increase ECC key length.

  • Sensor network can be applied in many areas in our life, and security is very important in applying sensor network. For secure sensor communication, pairwise key establishment between sensor nodes is essential. In this paper, we cluster the network field in hexagonal shapes and preassign three different kinds of key information for each sensor according to its expected location. We adopt overlapped key string pool concept for our clustered network architecture and every node uses the part of sub-strings for setting up pairwise keys with all neighboring nodes in its own cluster and from different clusters according to respective position with small amount of information. Our proposal decreases the memory requirement and increases security level efficiently.

  • In Wireless Mesh Networks (WMN), an authentication technique can be compromised due to the distributed network architecture, the broadcast nature of the wireless medium and dynamic network topology. Several vulnerabilities exist in different protocols for WMNs. Hence, in this paper, we propose trust based authentication and key establishment for secure routing in WMN. Initially, a trust model is designed based on Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) to exchange the trust information among the nodes. The routing table is utilized to select the destination nodes, for which the link information is updated and the route verification is performed. Based on the trust model, mutual authentication is applied. When a node moves from one operator to another for accessing the router, inter-authentication will be performed. When a node moves within the operator for accessing the router, then intra-authentication will be performed. During authentication, keys are established using identity based cryptography technique. By simulation results, we show that the proposed technique enhances the packet delivery ratio and resilience with reduced drop and overhead.

  • Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP) is widely used in VoIP stacks charging the multimedia data delivery. Concerning with payload protection of RTP packets, Secure RTP has been discussed in IETF AVT group to provide confidentiality and authentication features using block ciphering and message authentication coding. However, Secure RTP only concentrates on payload protection. Signcryption is a good candidate for key agreement. This paper proposes a key establishment protocol using Signcryption and shows example implementation of a secure VoIP application based on Secure RTP with the proposed scheme.
