  • The general morphological characters of Lysimchia sect. Spicatae were reviewed. From the results, numerical analyses were conducted based on 34 morphological characters from 14 populations of three species in Korea in order to investigate the key characters among the treated taxa and taxonomic delimitation and to discuss the systematic relationship. Habitat, leaf apices, presence or absent of hair on leaves, stipules, stems and bracts, branch of stems, kind of hair on floral axis and pedicels, shape of florescens were important diagnostic characters to identify the species. The relationship between Lysimachia clethoides and L. barystachys was more close than that of L. fortunei based on the quantitative characters. Also, a new key was made up from the result.

  • This paper deals with the legibility of Korean characters(Hangeul) on car number licence plates. We focus of the height-width ratio as key factor affecting the legibility in experimental procedures. The results of experiments are; i) For vertica characters, the vest height-width ratio was 1:1 for 3 throuth 5 stroke characters, and 4:5 for 6 and 7 stroke characters. ii) For horizontal characters, the best height-width ratio was 1:1 for 3 through 5 stroke charcters, and 5:4 for 6 and 7 stoke characters.

  • Animation character market in Korea has been dominated by licensed characters (e.g., Walt Disney′s) of which market share is 80%. While market share for Korean characters such as "Mashimaro" and "Little Dinosaur Dooly" is increasing, the application of such characters to fashion products is still limited. For the development of the Korean character market, application of original animation characters should be applied to various fashion products. The main purpose of this study was to design toddler apparel line using "Little Dinosaur Dooly," one of the most popular domestic animation characters. The design focus is the green color of Dooly because the color is the distinctive concept of the brand. Results of the study indicated that developing toddler apparel line with a Korean animation character was a meaningful attempt, as imported licensed characters were dominant in domestic fashion market. The key differentiating factor was the use of green color. In addition, use of various supporting characters, namely Dooly′s friends, demonstrated potential line extension forming animation character groups similar to Warner Brothers′"Looney Tunes."

  • The morphological characters were observed in six taxa in the genus Dioscorea of Korea (D. polystachya, D. japonica, D. nipponica, D. quinqueloba, D. tenuipes, and D. dokoro). The underground structure and the formation of bulbil were useful characters for separating sect. Enanatiophyllum from sect. Stenophora. The important characters for discriminating taxonomic entities were as follows: the position of the anther and the shape of the pistil in the microstructural characters, including the protuberance of the base of the petiole, the shape and color of the flower, the shape of the fruit, and the shape of the seed wing. Based on the results, a key to Korean Dioscorea is provided and the distribution of these species in Korea is described.

  • In this paper we present a Hangul Encryption Algorithm (HEA) which encrypts composition Hangul syllables into composition Hangul syllables using the non-linear structure of Hangul. Since ciphertexts generated by HEA are displayable characters HEA can be used in applications such as Privacy Enhanced mail (PEM) where ciphertexts should be displayable characters. HEA is based on DES and it can be shown that HEA is as safe as DES against the exhaustive key search differential cryptanalysis and linear cryptanalysis. HEA also has randomness of phonemes of ciphertexts and satisfies plaintext-ciphetext avalanche effect and key-ciphertext avalanche effect.

  • In animation films, the movements of characters are exaggerated and comical. Traditional key-frame animation techniques allow to control exaggeration and comicality of characters at animators' wills. But, recently introduced motion capture techniques have limits on representing comicality and exaggeration although it is convenient to capture subjects' natural looks. This paper chooses two animations from key-frame and motion capture techniques and looks into comicality and exaggeration of characters by analyzing movements and motion of them Movements are classified as four fundamental motion elements - running, jump, gesture and walking - and are analyzed to compare the way of representation from two films. By studying similarity and differentiation of movements of two films, this paper discusses the advantages and disadvantages of key-frame and motion capture techniques in terms of exaggeration and comicality. Comparison of the character movements from two techniques shows that there are common differentiations of those movements.

  • As a recent infrageneric classification of Juncus (Juncaceae), Kirschner suggested two subgenera which are distinguished by the type of inflorescence and the absence/presence of bracteole along with 10 sections which are distinguished by the characters of the leaves, the position of the inflorescence, and types of stamens and seeds. However, an intensive morphological investigation on Korean Juncus has yet to be performed. We surveyed the morphological characters of 14 taxa distributed throughout the Korean peninsula, including one North Korean taxon. The quantitative and qualitative characters of rhizomes, leaves, inflorescences, flowers, fruits, and seeds were investigated on each taxon using about 950 specimens of Korean Juncus on loan from major Korean herbaria. As a result, we provide diagnostic characters with illustrations and a key to Korean Juncus.

  • This paper presents to design User eXperience(UX) of anthropomorphic animal characters search system (hereinafter, AACSS) for efficient user search. To this end, meta data were utilized herein to elevate the search efficiency of multimedia information and text information. Anthropomorphic animal characters require the human elements and the animal elements, thus this paper extracted the key elements of meta data as below; phenotypic element in animal system classification (Morphologic property elements, Ecological property elements, Behavioral property elements), emotion classification, which is the trait of personification and the Step of Anthropomorphic Animal Characters.

  • The anatomical characters of the 19 taxa of Korean Juncus were reviewed in order to examine their significance in taxonomy. Cross-section analyses were conducted on the stem, leaf, and capsule. Descriptions, line drawings, tables, and a species key of Korean Juncus are provided for species identification based on anatomical characters. The results of this study showed that the arrangements of the vascular bundle, fiber, and air-space structure in the stems as well as the arrangements of the vascular bundle and parenchyma in the leaves and the development of placenta in capsules are the key characters to be used when classifying each species of Juncus. It was revealed that the studied anatomical features were more useful for identification at the subgenera and section levels than at the species level. Therefore, these anatomical characters used in conjunction with external morphological features will make a valuable contribution to establishing a natural classification system for Juncus.

  • Combined with expert interviews and questionnaire investigations, this paper aims at analyzing the different characteristics of the animated characters Spider-Man from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse based on Hunlock Effect, in order to provide appropriate guidance for animation characters designers and limited inspiration for creative practices. First, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is chosen as the case to analyze 6 Spider-Man with different personalities, who appear at the same time. Then, Spider-Man's characteristics are analyzed through interviews with experts. At last, the key study focuses on the influence of environmental factors on the formation of Spider-Man's roles in the theory of Hunlock Effect, in light of the principle of personality formation in psychology. From the perspective of psychology, interdisciplinary study on animated characters provides scientific and effective support for animation character design, and increases the fascination of animation characters' personalities.
