For displaying multivariate numerical data on a 2D plane by the projection, principal components biplot and the GGobi are two main tools of data visualization. The biplot is very useful for capturing the global shape of the dataset, by representing $n$ observations and $p$ variables simultaneously on a single graph. The GGobi shows a dynamic movie of the images of $n$ observations projected onto a sequence of unit vectors floating on the $p$-dimensional sphere. Even though these two methods are certainly very valuable, there are drawbacks. The biplot is too condensed to describe the detailed parts of the data, and the GGobi is too burdensome for ordinary data analyses. In this paper, "the local projective display(LPD)" is proposed for visualizing multivariate numerical data. Main steps of the LDP are 1) $k$-means clustering of the data into $k$ subsets, 2) drawing $k$ principal components biplots of individual subsets, and 3) sequencing $k$ plots by Hurley's (2004) endlink algorithm for cognitive continuity.

This paper proposes an algorithm to obtain the time-to-contact between an observer and a target and surface orientation of the target. These two physical elements are computed from the image deformation of a known shape, which is extracted by supervised classification of detected line segments based on MAP and Mahalanobis distance. The proposed algorithm was applied to the natural outdoor traffic scene and would contribute to the development for a collision avoidance system.
The purposes of this study are to evaluate the Korean mandibular dental arch and classify the mandibular dental arch shape and size based on the incisal angle, canine angle, inter second molar width and height. In this study the mandibular study models were fabricated using irreversible hydrocolloid impression material from 225 volunteers with a mean age 23.62 (range 19-29). And the study models were measured with 3-dimensional measuring device and the mandibular dental arch was classified by means of K-means clustering method and visual inspection, then obtained data were analyzed with t-test for the statistical analysis. The results were as follows ; 1. The average canine height was 5.19mm(s.d. 1.17) in both sex, 5.34mm in male, and 4.95mnm in female. And the sexual difference was significant($0
). 2. The average second molar height was 39.81mm(s.d. 2.44) in both sex, 40.19mm in male, and 39.21mm in female. And the sexual difference was significant($0
). 3. The average inter-canine width was 27.16mm(s.d. 1.78) in both sex, 27.41mm in male, and 26.77mm in female. And the sexual difference was significant($0
). 4. The average inter-first molar width was 46.93mm(s.d. 2.67) in both sex, 47.72mm in male, and 45.7mm in female. And the sexual difference was significant($0
). 5. The inter-second molar width was average 56.09mm(s.d. 3.01) in both sex, 57.24mm in male, and 54.32mn in woma. And the sexual difference was significant($0
). 6. The arch form was classified into three shapes based on the incisal and canine angle. V-shape showed $124.88^{\circ}$ of incisal angle and $141.64^{\circ}$ of canine angle, U-shape showed $152.76^{\circ}\;and\;125.35^{\circ}$, and O-shape showed $138.03^{\circ}\;and \;33.66^{\circ}$ respectively. Each shape distribution was that the V-shape was 14.2%, the U-Shape was 14.7%, and the O-shape was 71.1% of the 225 study models. 7. It was thought that the use of second molar width is more reasonable than height for classifying the dental arch size. The arch size was classified into four sizes based on the second molar width. Size 1 showed range of 42.24-48.23mm, size 2 showed 48.24-54.23mm, size 3 showed 54.24-60.23mm, and size 4 showed 60.24-66.23mm respectively. Each arch size distribution was that the size 1 was 1.3%, the size 2 was 27.1%, the size 3 was 63.6%, and the size 4 was 8.0% of the 225 study models.
In this paper, we develop an Intelligent Wheelchair(IW) control system for the people with various disabilities. The aim of the proposed system is to increase the mobility of severely handicapped people by providing an adaptable and effective interface for a power wheelchair. To facilitate a wide variety of user abilities, the proposed system involves the use of face-inclination and mouth-shape information, where the direction of an Intelligent Wheelchair(IW) is determined by the inclination of the user's face, while proceeding and stopping are determined by the shape of the user's mouth. To analyze these gestures, our system consists of facial feature detector, facial feature recognizer, and converter. In the stage of facial feature detector, the facial region of the intended user is first obtained using Adaboost, thereafter the mouth region detected based on edge information. The extracted features are sent to the facial feature recognizer, which recognize the face inclination and mouth shape using statistical analysis and K-means clustering, respectively. These recognition results are then delivered to a converter to control the wheelchair. When assessing the effectiveness of the proposed system with 34 users unable to utilize a standard joystick, the results showed that the proposed system provided a friendly and convenient interface.
Carbon fiber reinforced composites have light weight and high mechanical properties. These materials are only applicable in limited shape structure cause by complex curing process and low drapability. To solve this problem, Long Fiber Prepreg Sheet (LFPS) has been proposed. In this research, electric device cover plate was selected and designed by using LFPS. Before the design process, we analyzed the target structure to which the rib structures were applied. And 8-inch tablet PC product was selected. For FE analysis, simple loading and boundary conditions were applied. Stiffness of rib structure was investigated according to the rib pattern and shape changes. Rib pattern and shape were selected based on fixed volume condition analysis results. And uneven rib width model was selected for the best case whose deflection was reduced 6~10% than uniform rib model.

PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to investigate dental arch dimensions and to classify arch shape in Korean young adults. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The sample included 50 Koreans with age ranging from 24 to 32 years. Maxillary and mandibular casts were fabricated using irreversible hydrocolloid and type III dental stones. Incisor-canine distance, $incisor-1^{st}$ molar distance, $incisor-2^{nd}$ molar distance, intercanine distance, $inter-1^{st}$ molar distance, and $inter-2^{nd}$ molar distance in both the maxillary and mandibular arch were measured using a three-dimensional measuring device. The dental arch was classified into three groups using five ratios from the measured values by the K-means clustering method. The data were analyzed with one-way analysis of variance. RESULTS. Arch lengths (IM2D, $incisal-2^{nd}$ molar distance) were 44.13 mm in the maxilla and 40.40 mm in the mandible. Arch widths (M2W, inter $2^{nd}$ molar width) were 64.12 mm in the maxilla and 56.37 mm in the mandible. Distribution of the dental arch form was mostly ovoid shape (maxilla 52% and mandible 56%), followed by the V-shape and the U-shape. The arch width for the U-shape was broader than for the other forms. CONCLUSION. This study establishes new reference data for dental arch dimensions for young Korean adults. The most common arch form is the ovoid type in the maxilla and mandible of Koreans. Clinicians should be aware of these references and classify arch type before and during their dental treatment for effective and harmonized results in Koreans.
The determinant factors of an organism's size during animal development have been explored from various angles but remain partially understood. In Caenorhabditis elegans, many genes affecting cuticle structure, cell growth, and proliferation have been identified to regulate the worm's overall morphology, including body size. While various mutations in those genes directly result in changes in the morphological phenotypes, there is still a need for established, clear, and distinct standards to determine the apparent abnormality in a worm's size and shape. In this study, we measured the body length, body width, terminal bulb length, and head size of mutant worms with reported Dumpy (Dpy), Small (Sma) or Long (Lon) phenotypes by plotting and comparing their respective ratios of various parameters. These results show that the Sma phenotypes are proportionally smaller overall with mild stoutness, and Dpy phenotypes are significantly stouter and have disproportionally small head size. This study provides a standard platform for determining morphological phenotypes designating and annotating mutants that exhibit body shape variations, defining the morphological phenotype of previously unexamined mutants.

As most the scanning systems developed until now provide radiation scan plane images of the inspected objects, there has been a limitation in judging exactly the shape of the objects inside a logistics container exactly with only 2-D radiation image information. As a radiation image is just the density information of the scanned object, the direct application of general stereo image processing techniques is inefficient. So we propose that a new volume-based 3-D reconstruction algorithm. Experimental results show the proposed new volume based reconstruction technique can provide more efficient visualization for X-ray inspection. For validation of the proposed shape reconstruction algorithm using volume, 15 samples were scanned and reconstructed to restore the shape using an X-ray stereo inspection system. Reconstruction results of the objects show a high degree of accuracy compared to the width (2.56%), height (6.15%) and depth (7.12%) of the measured value for a real object respectively. In addition, using a K-Mean clustering algorithm a detection efficiency of 97% is achieved. The results of the reconstructed shape information using the volume based shape reconstruction algorithm provide the depth information of the inspected object with stereo X-ray inspection. Depth information used as an identifier for an automated search is possible and additional studies will proceed to retrieve an X-ray inspection system that can greatly improve the efficiency of an inspection.
Superpixel methods are widely used in the preprocessing stage as a method to reduce computational complexity by simplifying images while maintaining the characteristics of the images in the computer vision applications. It is common to generate superpixels of similar size and shape based on the pixel values rather than considering the characteristics of the image. In this paper, we propose a method to control the sizes and shapes of generated superpixels, considering the contents of an image. The proposed method consists of two steps. The first step is to over-segment an image so that the boundary information of the image is well preserved. In the second step, generated superpixels are merged based on similarity to produce the target number of superpixels, where the shapes of superpixels are controlled by limiting the maximum size and the proposed roundness metric. Experimental results show that the proposed method preserves the boundaries of the objects in an image more accurately than the existing method.
