The radar observation system in Japan is operated by two governmental groups: Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) of Japan. The JMA radar observation network is comprised of 20 C-band radars (with a wavelength of 5.6 cm), which cover most of the Japan Islands and observe rainfall intensity and distribution. And the MLIT's radar observation system is composed of 26 C-band radars throughout Japan. The observed radar echo from each radar unit is first modified, and then sent to the National Bureau of Synthesis Process within the MLIT. Through several steps for homogenizing observation accuracy, including distance and elevation correction, synthesized rainfall intensity maps for the entire nation of Japan are generated every 5 minutes. The MLIT has recently launched a new radar observation network system designed for flash flood observation and forecasting in small river basins within urban areas. It is called the X-band multi parameter radar network, and is distinguished by its dual polarimetric wave pulses of short length (3cm). Attenuation problems resulting from the short wave length of radar echo are strengthened by polarimetric wavelengths and very dense radar networks. Currently, the network is established within four areas. Each area is observed using 3-4 X-band radars with very fine resolution in spatial (250 m) and temporal (1 minute intervals). This study provides a series of utilization procedures for the new input data into a real-time forecasting system. First of all, the accuracy of the X-band radar observation was determined by comparing its results with the rainfall intensities as observed by ground gauge stations. It was also compared with conventional C-band radar observation. The rainfall information from the new radar network was then provided to a distributed hydrologic model to simulate river discharges. The simulated river discharges were evaluated again using the observed river discharge to estimate the applicability of the new observation network in the context of operations regarding flood forecasting. It was able to determine that the newly equipped X-band polarimetric radar network shows somewhat improved observation accuracy compared to conventional C-band radar observation. However, it has a tendency to underestimate the rainfall, and the accuracy is not always superior to that of the C-band radar. The accuracy evaluation of the X-band radar observation in this study was conducted using only limited rainfall events, and more cases should be examined for developing a broader understanding of the general behavior of the X-band radar and for improving observation accuracy.

The present study was carried out to establish the standard karyotype of the Korean Native Chicken and to find their chromosomal band markers using high-resolution banding technique. Chromosome analysis was performed on early chick embryos following in vitro culture of fertilized eggs of the yellow-brown and the red-brown lines of the Korean Native Chicken which had been established at National Livestock Research Institute. The high-resolution banding of the chromosome was achieved by treating the embryos with ethidium bromide and colchicine during culture. On GTG-banding, the Korean Native Chicken exhibited a typical chick banding pattern in all the macrochromosomes. Overall chromosomal morphology and positions of typical landmarks of the Korean Native Chicken were virtually identical to those of White Leghorn and International System for Standardized Avian Karyotypes(ISSAK). However, the lengths and G-band numbers of the Korean Native Chicken macrochromosomes were greater than those of White Leghorn and ISSAK. Especially in chromosomes 1 and Z, the Korean Native Chicken exhibited more separated bands in compared with ISSAK. In C-banding patterns, although a lot of observed cells had C-band polymorphic patterns, almost the Korean Native Chicken macrochromosomes had heterochromatic C-band on centromeres and/or near terminal part. However, the heterochromatic C-band was constantly observed at the end of q-arm of Z chromosomes and on the whole W chromosome. In addition, the Korean Native Chicken exhibited distinctive heteromorphic patterns of C-bands on the centromere of chromosome 3 and at the end of q-arm of Z chromosome between homologous chromosomes.

In this paper, a novel UWB(Ultra Wide-band) antenna with suppressed band of IEEE 802.11a($5.15{\sim}5.825\;GHz$) WLAN was designed and fabricated by using SRR(Split Ring Resonator) with band rejection property. MWS(Micro-wave Studio) of CST company was utilized in the design stage. The antenna was fabricated on a substrate, Rogers 4003, with the thickness of 0.8 mm and relative permittivity of 3.38. The measured result shows that the proposed antenna has a good return loss below -10 dB and group delay below 1nsec over UWB communication band($3.1{\sim}10.6\;GHz$) except WLAN band. It also shows the omni-directional radiation pattern.
Purpose: To compare the clinical results between the screw fixation and modified tension band wiring in the treatment of medial malleolar fracture. Materials and Methods: From September 1998 to April 2002, 52 patients were treated by screw fixation and 43 patients were treated by modified tension band wiring for medial malleolar fracture. Results: Accoding to Lauge- Hansen classification, there were 28 cases of supination-external rotation type (53.8%), 9 of supination-adduction type (17.3%), 8 of pronation -external rotation type (15.4 %), 7 of pronation -abduction type (13.5 %) in screw fixation group and 21 (48.9%),11 (25.6%), 7 (16.3%) 4 (9.3%) of each type in tension band wiring group. The average time to union was 15.7 weeks in screw fixation group and 12.8 weeks in tension band wiring group.(p<0.05) In the functional outcome (according to Meyer and Kumler), 29 patients treated (76.2 %) with screw fixation showed excellent results and 34 patients (86.6%) treated with tension band wiring had excellent results (p<0.05). Conclusion: We concluded that more satisfactory result could be obtained with modified tension band wiring compared with screw fixation in the treatment of the medial malleolar fracture.

In this paper, we propose a design of a triple-band microstrip circular patch antenna. The proposed antenna generates the triple frequency resonance at 1.85GHz(LTE), 2.45GHz(ISM) and 5.5GHz(WLAN). Firstly, we design the dual-band antenna. The dual-band antenna consist of the circular patch, slits, and the slot. The circular patch and slot are designed for dual frequency of 2.45GHz and 5.5GHz, respectively. And then the dual-band antenna is combined with additional arm-shaped structure for the triple-band characteristic. The arm-shaped structure is operated as the dipole. It is designed for lowest frequency of 1.85GHz. Each part of the antenna unites to a new structure. In order to design the proposed antenna automatically and optimally, APSO algorithm is adopted. During APSO, the mismatch of the proposed antenna is resolved. The optimal designed antenna has an acceptable return loss(-10dB) at each bands(i.e, 1.85GHz, 2.45GHz and 5.5GHz).

This paper introduces a W-band millimeter-wave power standard transfer system using the direct comparison method. The transfer system was developed to evaluate the effective efficiency and calibration factor of a W-band waveguide power sensor. The evaluation method and the measured results of the directional coupler that characterizes the calibration system are studied. The uncertainties of the standard transfer system are investigated, and the major uncertainty contributors are discussed as well. The performance of the realized W-band power standard transfer system was verified by comparing results with reference values.

A ring resonator based band-pass filter enabling enhanced sideband suppression was proposed and demonstrated. It is composed of a single-ring based band-pass section combined with a band-rejection section based on two different coupled rings. The sideband region of the transfer characteristics of the first band-pass filter section was selectively suppressed by means of the band-rejection section without causing any excessive insertion loss. As a result, the overall transfer characteristics of the proposed filter was unproved so that its sideband suppression was elevated to allow for sharper roll-off and narrower bandwidth. In this work, a conventional single-ring band-pass filter and a proposed filter including the band-rejection section were designed and fabricated. As for the achieved device performance, with the center frequency at about 4 GHz, the sideband suppression ratio was increased as much as 8 dB and the 3-dB bandwidth was reduced from 98 MHz to 48 MHz by about 51% with no remarkable excessive insertion loss as expected. And the quality factor of the device was increased by about 105%.

Studies have tried to apply remote sensing technology, a non-destructive survey method, instead of the existing destructive survey, which requires relatively large labor input and a long time to estimate chlorophyll content, which is an important indicator for evaluating the growth of fruit trees. This study was conducted to non-destructively evaluate the chlorophyll content of pear tree leaves using unmanned aerial vehicle-based hyperspectral imagery for two years(2021, 2022). The reflectance of the single bands of the pear tree canopy extracted through image processing was band rationed to minimize unstable radiation effects depending on time changes. The estimation (calibration and validation) models were developed using machine learning algorithms of elastic-net, k-nearest neighbors(KNN), and support vector machine with band ratios as input variables. By comparing the performance of estimation models based on full band ratios, key band ratios that are advantageous for reducing computational costs and improving reproducibility were selected. As a result, for all machine learning models, when calibration of coefficient of determination (R2)≥0.67, root mean squared error (RMSE)≤1.22 ㎍/cm2, relative error (RE)≤17.9% and validation of R2≥0.56, RMSE≤1.41 ㎍/cm2, RE≤20.7% using full band ratios were compared, four key band ratios were selected. There was relatively no significant difference in validation performance between machine learning models. Therefore, the KNN model with the highest calibration performance was used as the standard, and its key band ratios were 710/714, 718/722, 754/758, and 758/762 nm. The performance of calibration showed R2=0.80, RMSE=0.94 ㎍/cm2, RE=13.9%, and validation showed R2=0.57, RMSE=1.40 ㎍/cm2, RE=20.5%. Although the performance results based on validation were not sufficient to estimate the chlorophyll content of pear tree leaves, it is meaningful that key band ratios were selected as a standard for future research. To improve estimation performance, it is necessary to continuously secure additional datasets and improve the estimation model by reproducing it in actual orchards. In future research, it is necessary to continuously secure additional datasets to improve estimation performance, verify the reliability of the selected key band ratios, and upgrade the estimation model to be reproducible in actual orchards.
Noise band removal is a crucial step before spectral matching since the noise bands can distort the typical shape of spectral reflectance, leading to degradation on the matching results. This paper proposes a statistical noise band removal method for hyperspectral data using the correlation coefficient between two bands. The correlation coefficient measures the strength and direction of a linear relationship between two random variables. Considering each band of the hyperspectral data as a random variable, the correlation between two signal bands is high; existence of a noisy band will produce a low correlation due to ill-correlativeness and undirected ness. The unsupervised k-nearest neighbor clustering method is implemented in accordance with three well-accepted spectral matching measures, namely ED, SAM and SID in order to evaluate the validation of the proposed method. This paper also proposes a hierarchical scheme of combining those measures. Finally, a separability assessment based on the between-class and the within-class scatter matrices is followed to evaluate the applicability of the proposed noise band removal method. Also, the paper brings out a comparison for spectral matching measures. The experimental results conducted on a 228-band hyperspectral data show that while the SAM measure is rather resistant, the performance of SID measure is more sensitive to noise.
