  • The purpose of this study was to compare eating habits and food attitudes between depressed and normal adults. The subjects were selected (n = 6217) from those who participated in the 2008 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES IV). The subjects were divided into the depressed (DG, n = 841) and normal groups (NG, n = 3969). DG was those who have depression now or who have experienced depressing feelings more than two weeks or per year. The general characteristics, anthropometric measurement, eating habits, the dietary guideline recognition and practices were compared by using chi-square test and t-test. Also the partial correlations were analyzed by SAS (Statistical analysis system, version 9.1) program. There was a significantly higher rate of DG among the female (74.32%), with low education (44.6%) and low-income (32.0%) subjects (p < 0.001). DG showed significantly lower snacking and dining out. There was significantly higher rate of DG who responded "none" in frequency of snack (27.10%) and dining out (29.50%) (p < 0.001). Also DG showed significantly lower rate of the subjects who ate with the family than NG. Also, DG showed significantly lower dietary guideline recognition level and practice than NG. Correlation between depression symptom and various factors showed that positive correlation with low snack intake and dining out frequencies. However, correlation was relatively weak. In conclusion, eating habits and recognition levels and practice of dietary guidelines of DG were significantly different from NG. DG showed significantly lower frequencies of snack, dining out, and eating with family.

  • It is shown that for $A_{k, m}$ a k-homogeneous $C^*$-algebra over $S^{2n - 1} \times S^1$ such that no non-trivial matrix algebra can be factored out of $A_{k, m}$ and $A_{k, m} \otimes M_l(C)$ has a non-trivial bundle structure for any positive integer l, we construct an $A_{k, m^-} C(S^{2n - 1} \times S^1) \otimes M_k(C)$-equivalence bimodule to show that every k-homogeneous $C^*$-algebra over $S^{2n - 1} \times S^1)$. Moreover, we prove that the tensor product of the k-homogeneous $C^*$-algebra $A_{k, m}$ with a UHF-algebra of type $p^\infty$ has the tribial bundle structure if and only if the set of prime factors of k is a subset of the set of prime factors of pp.

  • This study introduces the CFTA girder(Concrete-Filled and Tied Steel Tubular Arch Girder) which is a combined structural system of traditional CFT, arch, and prestress structures. Static load tests and structural behavior analyses were carried out for a 25m long CFTA girder. In the analysis, each load of 58kN, 88kN, 148kN, 207kN,and 298kN was applied incrementally at the positions of 1.0 m distances in both directions from the center of the girder. On each test, strain and displacement were measured. Linear static FEM analyses using Strand7 code were also performed to check the structural stability and to investigate the effects of prestressing(${\pm}$20%) and material property(Young's modulus) on the displacement and strain. The results of this study are summarized as follows: the initial strain & displacement under selfweight and prestressing were influenced with the variation of prestressing, but they were mainly effected only by Young's modulus when additional loads were applied.

  • Acetolactate synthase (ALS) is the common enzyme in the biosynthetic pathways leading to leucine, valine, and isoleucine. Tobacco ALS was expressed in E. coli and purified to homogeneity. The recombinant tobacco ALS was inactivated by thiol-specific reagents, N-ethylmaleimide (NEM) and 5,5'-dithio-bis-(2-nitrobenzoic acid) (DTNB). Inactivation of the ALS by NEM followed pseudo-first order kinetics and was first order with respect to the modifier. The substrate pyruvate protected the enzyme against the inactivation by NEM and DTNB. Extrapolation to complete inactivation of the enzyme by DTNB showed modification of approximately 2 out of 4 total cysteinyl residues (or 2 cysteinyl and 1 cysteinyl residues), with approximately 1 residue protected by pyruvate. The tobacco ALS was also inactivated by the tryptophanspecific reagent, N-bromosuccinimide (NBS), and was similarly protected by pyruvate. The kinetics of the inactivation was first-order with respect to NBS. The present data suggest that cysteinyl and tryptophanyl residues play a key role in the catalytic function of the enzyme.

  • MO theoretical studies on the conformations of N-acetylpyrrolidone and its protonated form were carried out by the EHT and CNDO/2 methods. According to our calculated results, the heavy atom skeleton of this molecule is planar, and the trans-trans planar conformation is more stable than cis-trans. The protonation occurs most readily on the ring carbonyl oxygen. These results were interpreted in terms of conjugative, electrostatic and steric effect.

  • The crystals of bromhexine-HCl, $C_{14}$ H$_{21}$ N$_{2}$Br$_{2}$Cl, are orthohombic, space group Pca2 with a = 14.598(2)A, b=12.461(3)A, c =9 9.186(1) A and Z = 4. Intensity dat for 967 reflections (Fobs > 6.sigma.(F)) were collected on a Rigaku-Denki automatic four circle diffractometer. The structure was solved by the Patterson and Fourier methods. Refinements were carried out to the final R value of 0.082. The cyclohexane ring has a normal chair form and the benzene ring is planar. There are three independenet hydrogen bounds in the structure. One is an intermolecular hydrogen bond (N-H... Cl) and the others are intramolecular hydrogen bonds (N-H...Br, N$^{+}$-H...Cl$^{[-10]}$ ) Apart from the hydrogen bounding system the molecules are held together in the crystal by van der Waals force.e.

  • Cobalt silicide has been employed to Embedded DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory) and Logic (EDL) as contact material to improve its speed. We have investigated the influences of Ti and TiN capping layers on cobalt-silicided Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (CMOS) device characteristics. TiN capping layer is shown to be superior to Ti capping layer with respect to high thermal stability and the current driving capability of pMOSFETs. Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (SIMS) showed that the Ti capping layer could not prevent the out-diffusion of boron dopants. The resulting operating current of MOS devices with Ti capping layer was degraded by more than 10%, compared with those with TiN.
