Prospective Teachers' Competency in Teaching how to Compare Geometric Figures: The Concept of Congruent Triangles as an Example

  • Mathematically deductive reasoning skill is one of the major learning objectives stated in senior secondary curriculum (CDC & HKEAA, 2007, page 15). Ironically, student performance during routine assessments on geometric reasoning, such as proving geometric propositions and justifying geometric properties, is far below teacher expectations. One might argue that this is caused by teachers' lack of relevant subject content knowledge. However, recent research findings have revealed that teachers' knowledge of teaching (e.g., Ball et al., 2009) and their deductive reasoning skills also play a crucial role in student learning. Prior to a comprehensive investigation on teacher competency, we use a case study to investigate teachers' knowledge competency on how to teach their students to mathematically argue that, for example, two triangles are congruent. Deductive reasoning skill is essential to geometry. The initial findings indicate that both subject and pedagogical content knowledge are essential for effectively teaching this challenging topic. We conclude our study by suggesting a method that teachers can use to further improve their teaching effectiveness.

비균일 트래픽 환경하에서 다단상호연결네트웍의 해석적 성능 모델링 및 평가 (Performance Evaluation of Multistage Interconnection Networks under Nonuniform Traffic Pattern)

  • 밴연형 구조는 다단상호연결네트웍 중에서도 여러 변형 구조가 파생이 된 매우 중요하고 광범위하게 사용되는 구조이다. 이러한 구조를 위한 기존의 성능평가 연구는 주로 입력트래픽이 균일할 때를 가정한 것이어서 실제적이지 못하다. 비균일트래픽하에서의 기존의 연구도 입력버퍼의 경우보다 상대적으로 모델링이 쉬운 출력버퍼를 가지고 있을 때를 고려한다든가 블럭킹 상태를 고려하지 못한다든가 하는 결점을 가지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 입력버퍼를 가진 밴연형 다단상호연결네트웍이 비균일트래픽하에서 원하는 성능목표치를 만족시킬 수 있는지를 알아보기 위하여 해석적 모델을 개발하고 그 모델로부터의 결과와 시뮬레이션으로부터의 결과를 비교하여 구해진 모델의 우수성을 입증하였다.

복소수 지도에 관한 De Morgan의 관점 (The De Morgan's Perspective on the Teaching and Learning Complex Number)

  • 본 논문은 복소수 지도에 대한 De Morgan의 관점을 분석하였다. De Morgan의 복소수를 도입하고 정당화하는 과정은 그의 대수에 대한 관점이 보편적 산술, 기호 대수, 의미 대수로 발전해가는 과정과 일치한다. De Morgan은 허수의 유용성을 이유로 수학적으로 엄밀하지 않은 허수를 인정하였다. 이를 설명하기 위해 De Morgan은 기호의 의미나 대상은 고려할 필요가 없다는 기호대수를 수용했다. 그러나 그는 허수의 의미를 포기할 수 없었고, 결국 길이와 방향을 가진 직선을 대상으로 하는 이중대수 이론을 전개하였다. De Morgan은 복소수 지도를 정당화하는 과정을 정련해가면서 대수와 수학 전반에 관한 자신의 관점을 지속적으로 발전시켜나갔다고 볼 수 있다. 이는 복소수의 지도가 새로운 수학적 개념의 도입에 머물지 않고 대수에 대한 관점의 변화와 발전을 일으키는 촉매가 될 수 있음을 보여주고 있다.

Feasibility of utilizing oven-drying test to estimate the durability performance of concrete

  • The increasing concern for reinforced concrete structure durability has been justifying in many ways in the last few decades. However, there is no perfect durability test method till now. In this research an alternative method, which is based on the cumulative moisture loss percent of the concrete specimens after oven-drying, was proposed to estimate the durability performance of the concrete. Two temperatures were considered for the oven-drying tests: $100^{\circ}C$ and $200^{\circ}C$. Test results showed that oven-drying at $200^{\circ}C$ was obviously an unsuitable procedure to preserve the fragile microstructure of cement-based materials. By contrast, experimental results through oven-drying at $100^{\circ}C$ allowed estimating the moisture loss percent of cement-based materials in a more rational manner. Moreover, the magnitudes of the cumulative moisture loss percent obtained from oven-drying tests at $100^{\circ}C$ for 48 hours have good correlations with the data of other well-known methods, namely, electrical resistance test, water permeability test, and mercury intrusion porosimetry test. This investigation established that regarding the oven-drying test as one of the tests for evaluating the potential durability of concrete is considerably practicable.

  • 경영, 설계, 제조, 판매를 총체적으로 결합하는 생산 시스템인 컴퓨터 통합생산시스템 CIM(Computer Integrated Manufacturing System)의 개발이 이루어졌다 CIM에서는 경영 설계, 제조, 판매 등을 컴퓨터를 통하여 유기적으로 연결함으로써 빠른 시장변화에 따른 대응을 시도하고 있다 각 시스템간의 정보전달과 실제작업의 지시 및 동작은 정보네트워크에 의해 순간적으로 이루어지며 각 서브시스템에서 공유화되고 정확성, 신속성이 발휘되어 원가절감이나 품질향상, 납기준수 등에 기여하여야 한다. 본 연구의 목적은 CIM의 구축입안, 설계, 도입, 운용, 갱신 등의 어느 단계에 있어서도 적절한 평가를 행하는 것이다.

Who Reads Indian and Chinese LIS Articles on Mendeley? Scoping and Comparing User Categories Through Altmetrics

  • Mendeley reader count is good evidence of the early impact of scientific output since it appears before citations. This paper aims to scope and compare Mendeley readers of Library and Information Science (LIS) articles published from India and China. Mendeley readership data for the highly cited 1,000 articles in Web of Science are extracted using Webometric Analyst for both countries and are analysed using Excel and SPSS. The findings reveal that LIS articles that are published from China got more readers as compared to LIS articles published from India with an excess of 97 readers per paper on Mendeley. The occupational status of readers tells that PhD students are the top readers for both the countries' publications, followed by masters students. Discipline-wise readership shows that readers were spread across 29 different fields, with the highest readers from business, management and accounting, followed by computer science for both countries' publications. Location-wise readership depicts that the top engaged readers are from the United States for both the countries' publications. Finally, the study reports a positive association between citations and Mendeley bookmarks, justifying that Mendeley readership can be used to measure the early research impact of LIS scholarship in both countries.

The Adoption of Using Mobile Payment During COVID-19 Pandemic: An Empirical Study in Vietnam

  • The COVID-19 pandemic has imposed a number of restrictions on the lives of people and services, forcing them to adopt a "New Normal" way of living. Contactless technologies provide a mechanism to reduce the risk of infection, encouraging people to use touchless payment methods. The aim of this study is to develop an integrated framework based on the Health Belief Model and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology to justify the use of mobile payment during the COVID-19 pandemic in Vietnam. Based on a survey of 434 samples, the proposed conceptual model was empirically justified using structural equation modeling (SEM). This study found that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, enjoyment, perceived severity, and perceived susceptibility significantly and positively influenced behavioral intention of using contactless payment technologies. In addition, this study discovered that effort expectancy, perceived severity, and perceived susceptibility all have a positive impact on performance expectancy, while enjoyment triggered users' effort expectancy. By adding novel insights into the literature on the acceptance of technology during the pandemic, this study makes a major contribution to justifying how contactless payment technologies can reduce the risk of getting infected by COVID-19.

  • 이 글은 세간에 잘 알려져 있지 않은, 그렇지만 한국의 실천철학사에서 반드시 유념해 봐야할 인물, 무엇보다 '철학적 반면교사(反面敎師)'로 삼아야할 사회철학자로서의 김두헌의 철학(함)의 본질적 실상을, 그의 실천철학 체계의 핵심 얼개를 이루고 있는 '가치론적 변증법'에 초점을 맞추어, 비판적으로 규명해 보는데 일차적 목적이 있다. 이러한 작업은 해방 이후 이제껏 70여 년 이상 한국 사회에 군림하며 무소불위의 통치 권력을 행사해온 소위 '친일 독재 세력'의 정치적 지배 권력을 비호하고 정당화한 주도적인 이데올로그 가운데 한 사람으로서 그 철학자적 역할을 수행해 나갔던 김두헌의 실천적 철학함 방식과 그 철학적 여정에 관한 비판적 고찰을 통해 이루어질 것이다.

Values in Mathematics Education: Its Conative Nature, and How It Can Be Developed

  • This article looks back and also looks forward at the values aspect of school mathematics teaching and learning. Looking back, it draws on existing academic knowledge to explain why the values construct has been regarded in recent writings as a conative variable, that is, associated with willingness and motivation. The discussion highlights the tripartite model of the human mind which was first conceptualised in the eighteenth century, emphasising the intertwined and mutually enabling processes of cognition, affect, and conation. The article also discusses what we already know about the nature of values, which suggests that values are both consistent and malleable. The trend in mathematics educational research into values over the last three decades or so is outlined. These allow for an updated definition of values in mathematics education to be offered in this article. Considering the categories of values that might be found in mathematics classrooms, an argument is also made for more attention to be paid to general educational values. After all, the potential of the values construct in mathematics education research extends beyond student understanding of and performance in mathematics, to realising an ethical mathematics education which is important for thriveability in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Looking ahead, then, this article outlines a 4-step values development approach for implementation in the classroom, involving Justifying, Essaying, Declaring, and Identifying. With an acronym of JEDI, this novel approach has been informed by the theories of 'saying is believing', self-persuasion, insufficient justification, and abstract construals.

초등학교 수학에서 분수 나눗셈의 알고리즘 정당화하기 (Justifying the Fraction Division Algorithm in Mathematics of the Elementary School)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 자연수 나눗셈의 정의를 확장하여 분수 나눗셈에 적용함으로써 초등학교 수학에서 분수 나눗셈의 알고리즘을 정당화하는데 있다. 먼저 초등학교 수학에서 분수 나눗셈을 도입할 때 고려해야 할 준거들을 도출하여 제시하였다. 이를 바탕으로 분수 나눗셈의 표준 알고리즘을 유도하는 기존의 방식들이 분수 나눗셈 도입 과정에 적절한지를 고찰하였다. 또한 분수 나눗셈을 정의하였으며, 단위원 분할 모델과 정사각형 분할 모델을 통하여 구체적 조작 활동을 함으로써 등분제와 포함제 상황의 분수 나눗셈에서 표준 알고리즘을 자연스럽게 정당화하였다.
