Fatigue Study of K-Joints for Offshore Structures (해양구조물의 K-Joint 피로연구)

  • The paper describes a test program on welded K-joints fabricated from circular hollow section brace members and chords made with API 2W 50 grade steel produced by POSCO. The K-joints were tested for three loading conditions at RIST. The specimens were tested in reaction frame that allowed vertical uniform loading to the structure. From the test, the crack initiation and development were observed and the fatigue failure could be predicted. The results were also compared with the provided S-N curves by DnV.

  • Recently, many solution have been suggested to development of plastic products. Among many manufacturing technologies for plastic parts, the injection molding process is very attractive because of its low production cost and short cycle time. In this paper, the plastic ball seat of a ball joint, one of the essential components for automotive suspension or steering system, was studied to enhance its mechanical performance and durability by using PA66 that is reinforced polymeric plastic resin. But ball seat has some trouble in manufacture process. And strength of molded part is not enough to use. For the quality stabilization and reliability of injection molded parts, we designed the mold cavities through analytical simulation software and tested the mechanical performance for the injection molded ball-seat parts. After modification, tensile strength increases by about $13.5\%$. Strength and quality stabilization is improved.

  • A formulation is proposed for modelling the process of intra-granular diffusion of fission gas during irradiation of $UO_2$ under both normal operating conditions and power transients. The concept represents a simple extension of the formulation of Speight, including an estimation of the contribution of bubble motion to fission gas diffusion. The resulting equation is formally identical to the diffusion equation adopted in most models that are based on the formulation of Speight, therefore retaining the advantages in terms of simplicity of the mathematical-numerical treatment and allowing application in integral fuel performance codes. The development of the new model proposed here relies on results obtained by means of molecular dynamics simulations as well as finite element computations. The formulation is proposed for incorporation in the TRANSURANUS fuel performance code.

  • To enhance the educational effect of Multi-Joint Robot have to easily develop motion through the control software. The traditional way of development technique for multi-joint robot is educated with very complicated implementation, but our motion creation tool can be possible to do the creative activity for controling robot movements with ease. This paper mentions to develop the motion creation tool for easily and quickly programming the motion control of multi-joint robot on the educational program. With this tool we easily and exactly provide the education of robot program. In this paper, our suggested tool could not only evade the traditional way of a complicated control program using programming languages but also control easier the robot than the GUI(Graphic User Interface) programming centered on the user's convenience. Additionally, the robot motion's implementation is possible applied with microprocessor experimental equipment educationally to practical use.

  • Recently, there have been the increase of ship size and the development of oil and gas in arctic region. These trends have led to the requirements such as high strength, good toughness at low temperature and good weldability for prevent of brittle fracture at service temperature. There has been the key issue of crack arrestability in large size structure such as container ship. In this report for the first time, crack arrest toughness of thick steel plate welds was evaluated by large scale ESSO test for estimate of brittle crack arrestability in thick steel plate. For large structures using thick steel plates, fracture toughness of welded joint is an important factor to obtain structural integrity. In general, there are two kinds of design concepts based on fracture toughness: crack initiation and crack arrest. So far, when steel structures such as buildings, bridges and ships were manufactured using thick steel plates (max. 80~100mm in thickness), they had to be designed in order to avoid crack initiation, especially in welded joint. However, crack arrest design has been considered as a second line of defense and applied to limited industries like pipelines and nuclear power plants. Although welded joint is the weakest part to brittle fracture, there are few results to investigate crack arrest toughness of welded joint. In this study, brittle crack arrest designs were developed for hatch side coaming of large container ships using arrest weld, hole, and insert technology.

Interfacial Microstructure of Diffusion-Bonded W-25Re/Ti/Graphite Joint and Its High-Temperature Stability (확산 접합에 의해 제조된 텅스텐-레늄 합금/티타늄/그래파이트 접합체의 미세구조 및 고온 안정성)

  • Graphite was diffusion-bonded by hot-pressing to W-25Re alloy using a Ti interlayer. For the joining, a uniaxial pressure of 25 MPa was applied at $1600^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs in an argon atmosphere with a heating rate of $10^{\circ}C\;min^{-1}$. The interfacial microstructure and elemental distribution of the W-25Re/Ti/Graphite joints were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Hot-pressed joints appeared to form a stable interlayer without any micro-cracking, pores, or defects. To investigate the high-temperature stability of the W-25Re/Ti/Graphite joint, an oxy-acetylene torch test was conducted for 30 seconds with oxygen and acetylene at a 1.3:1 ratio. Cross-sectional analysis of the joint was performed to compare the thickness of the oxide layer and its chemical composition. The thickness of W-25Re changed from 250 to $20{\mu}m$. In the elemental analysis, a high fraction of rhenium was detected at the surface oxidation layer of W-25Re, while the W-25Re matrix was found to maintain the initial weight ratio. Tungsten was first reacted with oxygen at a torch temperature over $2500^{\circ}C$ to form a tungsten oxide layer on the surface of W-25Re. Then, the remaining rhenium was subsequently reacted with oxygen to form rhenium oxide. The interfacial microstructure of the Ti-containing interlayer was stable after the torch test at a temperature over $2500^{\circ}C$.

Room-Temperature Ferromagnetic Behavior in Ferroelectric BiFeO3-BaTiO3 System Through Engineered Superexchange Path (초교환 상호작용 제어를 통해 강유전 BiFeO3-BaTiO3 시스템에서 유도된 상온 강자성 거동)

  • Multiferroics exhibiting the coexistence and a possible coupling of ferromagnetic and ferroelectric order are attracting widespread interest in terms of academic interests and possible applications. However, room-temperature single-phase multiferroics with soft ferromagnetic and displacive ferroelectric properties are still rare owing to the contradiction in the origin of ferromagnetism and ferroelectricity. In this study, we demonstrated that sizable ferromagnetic properties are induced in the ferroelectric bismuth ferrite-barium titanate system simply by introducing Co ions into the A-site. It is noted that all modified compositions exhibit well-saturated magnetic hysteresis loops at room temperature. Especially, 70Bi0.95Co0.05FeO3-30Ba0.95Co0.05TiO3 manifests noticeable ferroelectric and ferromagnetic properties; the spontaneous polarization and the saturation magnetization are 42 µC/cm2 and 3.6 emu/g, respectively. We expect that our methodology will be widely used in the development of perovskite-structured multiferroic oxides.

A Study of Pier-Segment Joint for Fabricated Internally Confined Hollow CFT Pier (조립식 내부 구속 중공 CFT 교각을 위한 교각세그먼트 접합부 연구)

  • Bridges have undergone distinctive development in accordance of the introduction of new materials and structural types. The importance on rapid construction technology is currently attracting more and more attention worldwidely as well as domestically because its effectiveness in reducing the overall construction cost. While a wide ranges of previous researches on rapid construction of super structures are available, the studies on substructures are quite limited. The development of the precast segmental internally confined hollow CFT piers are briefly introduced herein and design formulas are presented for pier segment joints, Also, a extensive parametric studies are carried out for the effect of the constitutive elements of the joints. Finally, the design formulas are verified throughout a series of extensive finite element analyses.

  • The engine exhaustive valve became essential as the important element. The dissimmilar welding method of exhaustive valve head to stem was asked for manufacturing the engine exhaustive valve, for which the electric resistance are welding has been conventionally used, resulting in poor quality of the welded joint. In this paper, not only the development of optimizing of friction welding with more reliability and more applicability but also the development of in-process real-time weld qudlity(such as strength and toughness) evaluation technique by acoustic emission for friction welding of the engine exhaustive valve(SUH3-SUH35 dissimilar steels) were perfomed. The high temperature(500, 500, 600$^{circ}$C) creep properties prediction of the friction welded joint of SUH3-SUH35 was investigated relating to the initial strain meethod(ISM) as a new approach, resulting in obtaining an experimental equation of creep life prediction.

Study on the Structure of the Korea-Japan Joint Development Zone by Means of Geophysical Data (지구물리 자료를 이용한 한일공동개발구역 일원의 구조 해석)

  • In this study, we analyze the structure of the Korea-Japan Joint Development Zone (JDZ) using gravity, magnetic, and seismic data. Gravity and magnetic data analysis confirmed that the Jeju Basin exhibits low anomalies compared to adjacent areas. We applied the total gradient to the Bouguer anomaly to identify basin boundaries, and computed the analytic signal from the total magnetic anomaly data to enhance the edges of the magnetic anomalies. The Taiwan-Sinzi Belt, exhibits high magnetic anomalies and crosses the center of the JDZ in the northeast-southwest direction; we presume that intrusive rocks are sporadic in the JDZ. The 3D inversion results of the gravity and magnetic data show a strong correlation between magnetic susceptibility and density (i.e. a low-density zone in the Jeju Basin and the Ho Basin, and a high magnetic susceptibility distribution in the Taiwan-Sinzi Belt). Comparison of the density and seismic profiles of the Jeju Basin shows that high densities are associated with sill, horst, and basement highs, whereas low densities are associated with basement low and grabens. These results suggest that interpretations based on seismic, gravity and magnetic data can effectively reveal the subsurface structure of the JDZ.
