We analyzed the experimental and theoretical behavior of a particular type of steel joint designed to connect beam to beam and able to transfer both shear forces and bending moments. This joint is characterized by the use of steel plates and bolts enclosed in the width of the beams. The experimental investigation was carried out characterizing the constituent materials and testing in flexure beams constituted by two portions of beams connected in the middle with the joint proposed. Connections having different characteristics in terms of thickness of plates, number and type of bolts were utilized. Flexure tests allow one to determine the loaddeflection curves of the beam tested and the moment-rotation diagrams of the connections, highlighting the strength and the strain capacity of the joints. The proposed analytical model allows one to determine the moment-rotation relationship of the connections, pointing out the influence of the principal geometrical and mechanic characteristics of single constituents on the full properties of the joint.
In this paper, We proposed joint-modulation CDMA system for efficient streaming transmission. and, We analyzed joint-modulation CDMA system using nakagami fading model and impulsive interference model for transmission channel environment. Also, it can being compensate the performance degradation by using MRC diversity scheme and BCH coding scheme.

Coordinated multi-point transmission (CoMP) is considered to be a promising technique to improve the throughput for LTE-Advanced systems. One important approach for CoMP is Joint Transmission (JT). However, the analytical model of JT has not been fully studied, as user equipments (UEs) receiving the desired signals from an adjacent base station (BS) as well as serving BS, or only serving BS were not distinguished. We derive a new analytical model to describe the call admission control in JT based systems. The performance measures of interest are the call blocking probability, and resource utilization. Furthermore, we compare the performance of JT-based systems and non-JT- based systems. The analytical results are in reasonable agreement with the simulation results.
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the damping behavior of a flexible joint. The slip at a structrual joint is selected at the tips of two identical cantilever beams adjoining each other. Both the direction of normal force and its magnitude varies due to the global deformation of the structure from mode to mode in the friction model. The friction dependent on vibration displacements resultsin the same functional behavior of the hysteretic material damping. Linearized energy loss factors are obtained as functions of both linear and torsional spring stiffness for their groups of symmetric and anti-symmetric modes, respectively. Experimental measurements as made for comparisons with analytical estimations by controlling the magnitude of fastening torque in the fastener, Hi-Lite. Trends on damping levelsmeasured in a very common vibration test method make an excellent agreement on the estimated damping levels.
Behavior of the existing tunnel in the jointed rocks was affected by the adjacent slope excavation. In this study, large scale model tests were conducted. To investigate the tunnel distortion depending on the excavated slope angle and the joint dip of the ground performed model tests were numerically back analyzed. Consequently, as the joint dip and slope angle became larger, the tunnel distortion was tended to be larger. Ground displacement was also greatly dependent on the joint dip and the excavated slope angle, which indicated the possibility of the optimal slope reinforcement.

Learning has become an important aspect for any organization to stay relevant and competitive in the corporate world of survival. In construction industry, the international construction joint ventures (ICJVs) provide an excellent platform with opportunity of learning among partners seeking to develop new area of competency and improve their overall competitiveness for their next project endeavor. This paper discusses the development of a conceptual model of effective learning in ICJVs using four major stages of development in a typical joint venture (JV) 's process. The study identified that there are three key constructs that contribute to effective learning comprising learning conditions in the JV's pre-inception stage, success factors of JV for learning in the forming & organizing stage, and learning actions in the implementation & adjustment stage. The effective learning outcomes are measured by the characteristics of learning organization during the JV's completion & evaluation stage. Details and issues of each stage and the methodology of research will be presented and discussed.

Shoulder joint is the most movable joint in human body with, at least, three degrees of freedom, since there are at least three bones and five joints involved in shoulder movement. Due to the complexity of the shoulder joint and the lack of appropriate anatomical data, modeling of the shoulder joint has been known to be extremely difficult. In many biomechanical models being used, shoulder joint is considered as a fixed point and it is also assumed that the shoulder joint does not noticeably move during the shoulder movement. However, such an assumption is not valid in real applications and causes inaccuracy, especially, in the area of workspace evaluation. The reachable area generated by a human becomes somewhat different from that of current models for those models fail to appropriately reflect the movement of shoulder joint's center of rotation. In this study, the location of the shoulder joint's center of rotation was obtained in relation to the location of humerus, on which a new model for reach envelope generation was developed for workspace evaluation. From the experiments conducted for three subjects, the initial location of the center of rotation was determined for each subject and subsequent changes in the instantaneous center of rotation were drawn as a function of flexion and abduction of the shoulder. Based on the regression analysis, the study suggested a new method for the generation of reach envelope. Comparisons were also made among real reach envelopes obtained from the experiment, the ones from the model, and the ones from the new method suggested in the study. As a result, the prediction errors incurred from the new method were significantly reduced when compared to the ones from the current approach.

This paper presents the proposed methods of DE (distinct element) modelling to estimate the stability of tunnels in jointed rock masses. First, the criterion to select the joint set(s) contributed to the discontinuous behaviour in a tunnel section is proposed. Selected joint set(s) is(are) considered to form the edges of distinct elements (rock blocks) and the others to modify the elastic properties of rock blocks. The complex DE model with the average and the deviation of joint orientation and joint length for each joint set was compared to the simple model with only the average of joint orientation and the assumption that joint length is infinite. As a result, the latter is suitable to the purpose of tunnel design because it can show the consistent behaviour of a jointed rock mass such as the locally discontinuous failure and the global anisotropic behaviour.

The root joint in the welding structures are apt to failure by the stress concentration which is occurred by the external force. Therefore, in the safety and reliability of structure, the complete penetration joint welding which are obtained by the groove welding with edge preparation is generally required. Nevertheless, fillet T-joint welding without edge preparation is often carried out in the fields to reduce working time and consumption of welding electrode, however, this process is likely to produce inadequate joint penetration such as root gap. In this paper, the focus of research is to investigate distribution of welding residual stresses in the plate(or flange) and web of T-joint weld, and especially in the near of root gap notch that is due to incomplete joint penetration. For the analysis, we have chosen model of T-joint weld in the cases of single and multi-pass welding with submerged arc welding and analyzed model by using finite element programs considering the heat conduction and thermal elasto-plastic theory.

In this paper we consider a joint test for seasonal cointegrating(CI) ranks that enables us to simultaneously model cointegrated structures across seasonal unit roots in seasonal cointegration. A CI rank test for a single seasonal unit root is constructed and extended to a joint test for multiple seasonal unit roots. Their asymptotic distributions and selected critical values for the joint test are obtained. Through a small Monte Carlo simulation study, we evaluate performances of the tests.
