Several fatigue damages have recently been reported which cannot be resolved in the context of the existing fatigue design procedure, and they are suspected to be the cracks induced by the low cycle fatigue mechanism. To tackle the problem, a series of material tests together with fatigue tests have been carried out, and elasto-plastic notch strain analysis using nonlinear kinematic hardening model has been performed. The cyclic stress-strain curves are obtained and the nonlinear kinematic hardening model was calibrated based on the obtained material data. Also, the fatigue test with non-load-carrying cruciform fillet welded joint has been performed in low cycle fatigue regime. Then, the notch strain analyses have been carried out to find the precise elasto-plastic behavior of the material at the notch root of the cruciform joint. The variation of the material property from the base metal via HAZ up to the weld metal was taken into account using spatial variation of the material property. Then the detail elasto-plastic behavior of the welded joint subjected to the repeated cyclic loading has been investigated further through the comparison with the prediction with Neuber's rule. The calibration of the nonlinear kinematic hardening model and nonlinear notch strain analyses have been performed using the commercial FE program ABAQUS.

Quantitative information of a three dimensional(3D) kinematics of joint is very useful in knee joint surgery, understanding how knee kinematics related to joint injury, impairment, surgical treatment, and rehabilitation. In this paper, an automated 2D/3D image matching technique was developed to estimate the 3D in vivo knee kinematics using dual X-ray images. First, a 3D geometric model of the knee was reconstructed from CT scan data. The 3D in vivo position and orientation of femoral and tibial components of the knee joint could be estimated by minimizing the pixel by pixel difference between the projection images from the developed 3D model and the given X-ray images. The accuracy of the developed technique was validated by an experiment with a cubic phantom. The present 2D/3D image matching technique for the estimation of in vivo joint kinematics could be useful for pre-operative planning as well as post-operative evaluation of knee surgery.

The Advanced Power Reactor 1400 (APR1400) Steam Generator (SG) uses alloy 690 as a tube material and SA-508 Grade 3 Class 1 as a tubesheet material to form tube-to-tubesheet joint through hydraulic expansion process. In this paper, the residual stresses in the SG tube-to-tubesheet contact area was investigated by applying Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) methodology and the V-model. The use of MBSE transform system description into diagrams which clearly describe the logical interaction between functions hence minimizes the risk of ambiguity. A theoretical and Finite Element Methodology (FEM) was used to assess and compare the residual stresses in the tube-to-tubesheet contact area. Additionally, the axial strength of the tube to tubesheet joint based on the pull-out force against the contact joint force was evaluated and recommended optimum autofrettage pressure to minimize residual stresses in the transition zone given. A single U-tube hole and tubesheet with ligament thickness was taken as a single cylinder and plane strain condition was assumed. An iterative method was used in FEM simulation to find the limit autofrettage pressure at which pull-out force and contact force are of the same magnitude. The joint contact force was estimated to be 20 times more than the pull-out force and the limit autofrettage pressure was estimated to be 141.85MPa.

Commercial banks have a significant impact on the economy of Vietnam because they provide the majority of transactional capital. Therefore, the operational efficiency of commercial banks is a viral topic for the study of the Vietnamese banking system. The research aims to examine the efficiency and inefficiency of joint-stock commercial banks in Vietnam from 2016 to 2020 and then classify them into the efficient group and inefficient group. The study employs the time series data of 29 joint-stock commercial banks during the period 2016-2020. Based on the data collected from the annual audited financial statements of 29 Vietnamese joint-stock commercial banks, the authors select input and output variables for the standard DEA models and anti-efficient DEA models. This research uses two stages, first, by applying the standard DEA model, we investigate the efficient banks; second, by employing the anti-efficient DEA model, we find out the inefficient banks. The results reveal that the average efficiency score of 29 joint-stock commercial banks tends to increase in the period 2016-2018 and decrease gradually in the period 2019-2020. The findings of this study suggest that several small and medium-sized banks in the Vietnamese banking sector have both promising and risky performances and the efficiency of state-owned commercial banks has also improved significantly during the study period.
It is often necessary that the joints characteristics should be determined in the early stage of the vehicle body design. The researches on identification of joints in a vehicle body have been performed until the recent year. In this study, the joint characteristics of vehicle structure were expressed as the condensed matrix forms from the full joint stiffness matrix. The condensed joint stiffness matrix was applied to typical T-type and Edge-type joints, and the usefulness was confirmed. In addition, it was applied to the real center pillar model and the full vehicle body in order to validate the practical application.
This analytical study was carried out to make quality and productivity up in designing the frame-type furniture with semi-rigid joint by understanding the mechanical and structural behavior of the joint and by evaluating the validity of application of the time-saving Finite Element Method to its structural analysis. Slope deflection equation for rigid joint was modified to describe the moment-rotation behavior of semi-rigid joint and the joint stiffness factor(Z) could be calculated to lessen the experimental expense. It was proved that Finite Element Analysis with imaginary elements having equivalent MOE to the semi-rigid joint could be the alternative method for the structural analysis of the frame-type furniture, comparing the internal rotation of the 2-dimensional beam-to-column model with two-pin(wooden dowel) from the finite element method with other available theoretical and experimental rotation value.
Joint stiffness can affect the vibration characteristics of car body structures. Therefore, it should be included in vehicle system model. In this paper, a numerical approximation of joint stiffness is presented considering joint flexibility of thin walled beam-jointed structures. Using the proposed method, it is possible to optimize joint structures considering the change of section shapes in vehicle structures. The numerical approximation of joint stiffness is derived using the response surface method in terms of beam section properties. The study shows that joint stiffnesses can be effectively determined in designing vehicle structures.
Recently, multidimensional joint inversion of geophysical data based on fundamentally different physical properties has been actively studied. Joint inversion can provide a way to much more accurately image the subsurface structure. Through the joint inversion, furthermore, it is possible to directly estimate non-geophysical material properties from geophysical measurements. In this study, I derive the objective functions and normal equations of three different joint inversion approaches: one approach based on the structural similarity using cross-gradient, and the other two using the a priori information on the model parameters and the correlation between material properties. Since all the equations derived in this study are based on the same inversion method (smoothness constrained least-squares), it is possible to mix the joint inversion methods so as to produce a new joint inversion algorithm.
Bolted joints are essential elements of mechanical structures and metal constructions. Although their static behaviour is fairly well known, their dynamic behaviour due to shocks and vibrations has been less studied, because of the large size of the finite element models needed for a detailed simulation. This work presents four different simplified models suitable for studying the dynamic behaviour of an elementary bolted joint. Three of them include contact elements to allow sliding of the screw head and the nut on the assembled parts, and the last one allows rotation between screw and nut. A penalty approach based on the Coulomb friction model is used to model contact. The results show that these models effectively represent the dynamic behaviour, with different accuracy depending on the model details. The last model simulates the self loosening of a bolt subjected to transversal vibrations.

This study investigates the analysis result of structure and fatigue due to the models of the hub space with bolt joint at wheel and the existence or nonexistence of hub ring as the part of suspension system of vehicle. As the static analysis result, the structural vulnerability can be found at hub bolt and the center of wheel at three models. Model 2 and 3 have nearly same deformation and model 1 can be endured at the least load among three models. As the fatigue analysis result, fatigue lives of three models are same at the severest load of SAE bracket history. As many screw threads of weak bolts are jointed in case of model 1, model 1 is shown to be the weakest at fatigue damage among three models. By the result of this study, model 1 with bolt joint becomes most weakest among three models. As model 2 with no hub ring and model 3 with hub ring have the nearly same states of analysis results, hub ring is shown to have no influence on the safety of automotive driving.
