  • The visualization of three dimensional geophysical data is forcing a revolution in the way of working, and allowing the discovery and production of hydrocarbons at much lower costs than previously thought possible. There are many aspects of this revolution that are behind the scenes, such as the database structure, the storage and retrieval of data, and the exchange of data among programs. Also the user had changes where the interpreter (or manager, or processor) actually looks at and somehow interacts with the data. The use of opacity in volume rendering, and how its judicious application can assist in imaging geologic features in three dimensional seismic data. This revolutionary development of new technology is based on the philosophy of synergy of inter-disciplines of the oil industry. Group interaction fostered by large room visualization environments enables the integration of disciplines we strive for, by putting the petrophysicist, geologist, geophysicist, and reservoir engineer in one place, looking at one image together, without jargon or geography separating them. All these tools developed in the oil industry can be applied into the civil engineering industry also such as the prior geological and geophysical survey of the constructions. Many examples will show how three dimensional geophysical technology might make a revolution in the oil business industry now and in future. This change can be considered as a fusion process at data, information, and knowledge levels.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the tokenizer in natural language processing for customer satisfaction in sentiment analysis. Methods: In this study, a supervised learning-based tokenizer Mecab-Ko and an unsupervised learning-based tokenizer SentencePiece were used for comparison. Three algorithms: Naïve Bayes, k-Nearest Neighbor, and Decision Tree were selected to compare the performance of each tokenizer. For performance comparison, three metrics: accuracy, precision, and recall were used in the study. Results: The results of this study are as follows; Through performance evaluation and verification, it was confirmed that SentencePiece shows better classification performance than Mecab-Ko. In order to confirm the robustness of the derived results, independent t-tests were conducted on the evaluation results for the two types of the tokenizer. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that the classification performance of the SentencePiece tokenizer was high in the k-Nearest Neighbor and Decision Tree algorithms. In addition, the Decision Tree showed slightly higher accuracy among the three classification algorithms. Conclusion: The SentencePiece tokenizer can be used to classify and interpret customer sentiment based on online reviews in Korean more accurately. In addition, it seems that it is possible to give a specific meaning to a short word or a jargon, which is often used by users when evaluating products but is not defined in advance.

  • Based on the previous translation studies and "WHO-IST", we selected terminology, which are required the definition and explanation among jargon expressed in "Dongeuisusebowon Discourse on Nature and Act", and the procedure of the definition, explanation, and translation in Korean and English has been followed. The outcomes of this study are presented as below: First, based on the existing translation studies, Korean and English translation of "Dongeuisusebowon Discourse on Nature and Act" is provided. Second, few of Terminology in "Dongeuisusebowon(東醫壽世保元)" have been written in WHO-IST, even most of them have been standardized in terms of "Huang Di Nei Jing(黃帝內經)". Therefore, terminology related to Four-constitution medicine in WHO-IST would be required to be corrected, and unattatched terminology should be added in the future. Third, in order to standardize and globalize Four-constitution medicine, further definition, explanation, and translation studies of the rest of Dongeuisusebowon should be continued.

  • Why are there semantic difficulties in the jargon, design management\ulcorner A series of changes in the meaning of design management during 40 years. since the beginning of 1950s when the term was used officially in the U.K., has been studied through a set of annotated bibliography. As a result, it is identified that such semantic confusions have been situated in relation to the shift in the emphasis on design management as a narrow sense of design - a broad sense of design - strategic management. This may imply that design management becomes an intrinsic part of corporate management in line with the increasing importance of design in the success of business.

  • In contemporary art, the process of appreciating art works requires the dichotomy between traditional art and New Media Art. This difference can be witnessed in the contrasting ways of appreciating art works; in traditional art, a certain physical and esthetic distance is placed between viewers and works of art, and in New Media Art, art is appreciated by active involvement and communication. In other words, this disparity is based on whether viewers physically involve themselves in the completion of the art works. Perhaps contemporary art can be better understood and appreciated if a single primary keyword takes the center place of art appreciation rather than allowing the dichotomy. Thus, a new approach is welcome, where art appreciation is not adversely affected through such divided means based on the degree of active participation. This is not some new introduction of jargon but the reinterpretation of contemplation, the key word for art appreciation in the past, as the common key word for both conventional art and New Media Art.

  • Gist-based message design is essential in the Internet in which a lot of health messages are created and shared constantly. This study intended to identify the characteristics of health messages in a webzine and explore a way to design gist-based health messages. A total of 72 webzine articles published in Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety were selected, and text and visual messages of the articles were analyzed in terms of content types, the frequency and position of gists, and intuitive expression. The articles were also categorized regarding the characteristics of health messages through cluster analyses. This study found that most texts of the health articles consisted of facts and methods, while most visual messages represented concepts. In addition, both text and visual messages had limitations in presenting a gist effectively. It was also necessary to explore an effective way to improve an intuitive understanding of jargon and quantitative information in health messages. Based on these findings, this study provided suggestions for the design of gist-based health messages in the Internet.

  • This paper points out the semantic unclearness of the jargon "cluster" and suggests the substitution of "industrial cluster" for "cluster". Industrial cluster is the intersection of industrial agglomeration and cluster phenomenon while the actual concept of cluster includes not only industry cluster but also political administration cluster, science research cluster, art cluster, religion cluster, education cluster, etc. Partially reconstructing the concept and significance of industry cluster, industrial cluster is a geographic agglomeration of interconnected productional businesses in a particular industry, forming close industrial networks. The advantage of the agglomeration includes reducing the transaction cost between the businesses, promoting technological innovation and dispersion, facilitating the utilization of the professional workforce, sharing and connecting the external customer. Moreover, this paper discusses the range of the industrial cluster and its distinctness from the other similar concepts. There is a need to discriminate it from the other related jargons and to clarify their relationship. In particular, there is a task to eradicate the mixed usage of industrial cluster with the jargons related to space for learning and innovation.

  • Russian language tends to be quite open to borrowing. In Russian it has been for a long time the conventional way of expanding the lexicon, accepting many words from adjacent languages, including Church Slavic. In the contemporary Russian English has been the main source for loanwords. There are several linguistic factors for lexical borrowing: 1. the necessity of denominating new facts, phenomena or concepts, 2. the necessity of differentiating concepts, 3. the necessity of specializing new concepts, 4. the introduction of new international terms, 5. the increase of periphrastic expressions, 6. the needs for the more elegant and modern words. These factors have caused borrowing to enlarge the component of the lexicon and phrasal expressions, but excessive use of foreign words has brought about negative effects such as linguistic pollution. Some borrowed words are assimilated without serious conflicts, but other words undergo semantic changes in confrontation to existing words of similar meanings. These types of semantic changes comprise total change of meaning, reduction of semantic scale and extension of meaning. Semantic changes are caused by linguistic factors such as lexical conflict with existing words or by socio-culural factors such as misunderstanding of foreign words. And extension of meaning shows two types: qualitative extension and quantitative extension. The first means extending the semantic scope of a borrowed word and the latter - increasing the number of its sememe. In contemporary Russian language we can witness two productive phenomena: qualitative extension by socio-cultural factors, in which words with negative nuances are changed into those with positive ones and professional terms become common words, losing their professional meanings. On the other hand, by quantative extension some loanwords change their concrete meanings into abstract ones. In such cases loanwords acquire the additional meanings of abstractness, putting aside their original concrete meanings as the basic. On the contrary, the qualitative extension of adding the special meaning to general words or giving the concrete meaning to abstract words is not productive. And it is rarely witnessed that words of positive nuances are negatively used. It is considered that such cases are partly restricted in the spoken language or the jargon. Such phenomena may happen by the incomplete understanding of English words.

  • The purpose of this article is to represent the types of advertising in the modern Russian language as 'Play of Words' (игра слов). The causal reason for this phenomenon is studied from the result of certain characteristics of advertising. The definition and characteristics of the language of the advertisement are analyzed in achieving the goal, as these factors reveal how language is used to maximize the effectiveness of the advertising. Academic research is needed in the collaborative fields of linguistics, psychology, economics, sociology, marketing, literature, art, and music. Modern advertisement is mixed with semiotic objects that consist of display, sound, and texts. While this study is not complete, the acknowledgement of the phenomenon 'Play of Words' between the creators of advertising and the consumer is undeniable. On one hand, advertising is recognized by linguists as the main factor that destroys the literary language. It represents the distortion of a standard language norm, as opposed to formal linguistic means used in advertising. In this research, we pay attention to the frequent use of foreign language borrowings and incorrect representation of foreign words, slang and jargon, that occur in misspelled usage of literary norms. The features that are revealed in this article are helpful to understand the purpose of advertising.

  • Arjun Appadurai contends that "the new global cultural economy has to be seen as a complex, overlapping, disjunctive order that cannot any longer be understood in terms of existing center-periphery models" (32); though discerning and perhaps becoming more and more apt, Appadurai's observation of the breakdown of the "center-periphery" binary appears as mere "academic jargon" in the lives of new immigrants, tackling the murky waters of identity politics in the transcultural technoscape of modern America in Kunzru's Transmission. Kunzru's antihero is Arjun Mehta, a software technician, who comes to America with high hopes of realizing the "American Dream." To a certain extent, Arjun himself is culpable of resurrecting the "center" as he prioritizes America and its values over all else. Despite his best efforts, Arjun cannot prevail in the perilous politics of exclusion/inclusion, and is relegated into a "high-tech coolie," exploited for his technological savvy. Even as the "center-periphery" binary stays intact in the production of an (Asian) American identity, it becomes undone in the hands of this "would-be" American; ultimately denied inclusion into America, Arjun unleashes a destructive virus that has major global consequences. In a sense, the boundary that separates the center and the periphery comes down as both collectively become victims to Arjun's retributive malfeasance. Arjun seems to rely on the "American" promise that old allegiances (to a national identity) are now defunct and new ones can be easily forged; as Kunzru's Transmission demonstrates with the tragic story of Arjun, the complex politics of identity production in America does not necessarily deliver on this promise. This essay hence aims to examine the politics of (national) belonging in the age of transnationalism.
