수산물도매시장의 한·일 비교를 통한 거래제도 개선방향 연구 (A Study on the Improvement Direction of Trading System by Comparing Fishery Products Wholesale Markets between Korea and Japan)

  • In this study, the differences of institutional development processes of fishery products wholesale markets were compared between Korea and Japan in order to suggest improvement direction of trading system in Korea. The wholesale markets have shrunk while wholesale and distribution has been becoming larger in size in both countries. A summary of differences in the wholesale market trading systems between Korea and Japan is as follows: first, middle wholesalers play pivotal roles in wholesale transaction in Korea, and wholesale corporations take such roles in Japan. Second, most wholesale corporations take charge of listing in Korea whereas such corporations are in charge of buying in Japan. Third, Korea has high proportion of auction for transactions, in contrast to Japan with high proportion of relative transactions. Forth, Korea maintains more sales within the wholesale markers and has more small and medium customers than Japan. Finally, Korea investigates inside causes to find solutions for the decreased competitive power of the wholesale market, whereas Japan copes with the problem by searching for outside customers. To seek solutions for the decreased competitiveness of Korean fishery products wholesale markets, middle wholesalers' consignment should be limitedly allowed, and improvement direction of wholesale corporations should be investigated in the future study.

Social Factors and Herd Behaviour in Developed Markets, Advanced Emerging Markets and Secondary Emerging Markets

  • This paper examines the existence of herd behaviour in fifteen (15) global stock markets, which consist of Developed Markets (Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and the United Kingdom), Advanced Emerging Markets (Brazil, Malaysia, Mexico, Poland and South Africa) and Secondary Emerging Markets (Chile, China, Indonesia, the Philippines and Russia) by using Cross Sectional Absolute Deviation (CSAD) method of Chiang and Zheng (2010). It also seeks to explore the impact of social factors such as prosperity, education, ageing society, industry orientation and gender on the existence of market-wide herding. The findings of this paper indicate that herd behaviour exists in Singapore (Developed Market), Mexico, Poland and South Africa (Advanced Emerging Markets) and China and the Philippines (Secondary Emerging Markets). No evidence of herding is observed for Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, United Kingdom, Brazil, Malaysia, Chile, Indonesia and Russia. Ageing society is also found to have significant impact on the existence of herd behaviour. Nonetheless, prosperity, education, industry orientation and gender are found to be insignificant to herding. This study sheds some light on whether social factors determine herding behaviour in the 15 selected stock markets.

  • For the last few years, the wholesale market system in Japan has been experiencing a lot of changes in the related sectors. The greatest changes in the environments surrounding the wholesale market were enlargement of the producers' cooperatives, increase of fisheries products marketed in the outside of the wholesale market system, and management aggravation of the related businessmen, These changes resulted in the revision of the wholesale Market Law in 1999 to cope with the social needs successfully. Recently, fisheries wholesale markets in Japan have a few problems like declining of earning power, weakening of management constitution, etc. Consequently, Japanese government presents policy for enforcing the competition power through reform laws related with fisheries wholesale markets. Also the fisheries wholesale markets have been trying variety and active countermeasures like undertaking, merger, coalition, etc. to overcome the crisis.

한·중·일 주식시장의 변동성 전이효과에 관한 비교연구 (A Comparative Study on Volatility Spillovers in the Stock Markets of Korea, China and Japan)

  • The purpose of this research is to conduct a comparative study on the characteristics of daily volatility spillovers across the stock markets of Korea, China, and Japan. We employ generalized spillover definition and measurement developed by Diebold & Yilmaz (2009, 2012). The sample period is January 5, 1993 to September 25, 2015. From a static full-sample analysis, we find that 8.60% of forecast error variance comes from volatility spillovers. From a 250-day rolling-sample analysis, we discover that there exist significant volatility fluctuations in the stock markets of Korea, China and Japan, expecially during the Asian Financial Crisis (1998-1999) and the US Credit Crisis (2008-2009) after the collapse of Lehman Brothers. From the net directional spillovers across three countries, we come upon that there is neither a definite leader nor a significant follower during the sample period.

A Study on the Efficiency of the Foreign Exchange Markets: Evidence from Korea, Japan and China

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study was to examine the efficiency of the foreign exchange markets in Korea, Japan and China. Design/methodology/approach - This study collected 1327 observations each of the daily closing exchange rates of the three currencies against the US dollar for the sample period from January 1, 2015 to January 31, 2020, based on the tests for autocorrelation, unit root tests and GARCH-M(1,1) model estimation. Findings - We have found that the autocorrelation test indicates the lack of autocorrelation and unit root test confirms the existence of unit roots in all times series of the three currencies, respectively. The GARCH-M(1,1) test results, however, suggest that the exchange rates do not follow a random walk process. In conclusion, the recent spot foreign exchange markets in Korea, Japan and China are believed to be informationally inefficient. Research implications or Originality - These findings have practical implications for both individual and institutional investors to be able to obtain excess returns on their investments in the foreign exchange markets in three countries by using appropriate risk management, portfolio strategy, technical analysis, etc. This study provides the first empirical examination on the foreign exchange market efficiency in the three biggest economies in Asia including China, which has been excluded from research due to its exchange rate regime.

한국·중국·일본·미국 주식시장 간 동조화 현상: 글로벌 금융위기 전·후를 중심 (An Analysis of the Co-Movement Effect of Korean, Chinese, Japanese and US Stock Markets: Focus on Global Financial Crisis)

  • 본 연구에서는 중국시장을 중심으로 수익률 전이현상(return spillover effect) 및 변동성 전이현상(volatility spillover effect)을 이변량 VAR-EGARCH 모형을 이용하여 실증 분석하였다. 그리고 최근의 글로벌 금융위기를 중심으로 금융위기 이전과 이후로 나누어서 전이효과를 실증 분석하였다. 실증분석 결과, 전체기간에서 중국으로부터 일본 만이 수익률 전이현상을 가지고 있었고 변동성 전이현상은 미국뿐만 아니라 일본, 한국에게도 모두 영향을 주었다. 기간을 나누어서 분석한 결과, 금융위기 전에는 일본과 한국에게 수익률 전이현상을 가지고 있었고 금융위기 후 그 크기가 상대적으로 증가한 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 중국의 변동성 전이현상도 한국에게 영향을 주고 미국으로부터 영향을 받다가, 금융위기 후 한국을 제외한 미국과 일본은 중국과 양방향의 관계를 가지고 있었고 그 크기가 증가하였다. 하지만 미국으로부터 중국으로의 변동성 전이현상은 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 글로벌 금융위기 이후 중국시장의 영향력이 증대되고 있음을 의미한다.

한국 영화의 무역경쟁력 분석 (Analysis of Trade Specialization on Korean Film in International Market)

  • This study intends to analyze the trade competitiveness of Korean films in international markets. Under environmental of film industry, Korean films could be doing better. But the Key success factors Korean films in the foreign markets are the improvement of contents Quality and the diversification of trade market. Namely, Our films is mainly exporting Japanese market and the import depends upon American films. In case the trade specialization index(TSI), The international competitiveness of Korean films shows lower import specialization, by virtue of export increasing of Japan, Europe and other markets in 2000's. On the other hand, The Export Market Share has shown similar pattern to main markets except Japanese market, and the import was almost similar to trend in foreign markets except American films. Consequently the present film strategies and polices that delight limited markets will not be compete in global markets, Korean films or contents is merely called by that name.

정보통신산업의 대 미국수출구조분석 -한국, 일본, 중국의 비교를 중심으로- (A Comparative Analysis on the Export Structure toward U.S. in IT Industry - Korea, Japan, and China)

  • This study is on the decomposition analysis of the IT export of Korea, Japan, and China (toward US IT market) by using log mean Divisia method. The analysis shows that the increase in the Korea-US IT exports is the result of not only the increase in the US's IT imports but also the increase in the US's IT market shares. The increases in the Japan-US IT export have shown to be the result of the increase of US's IT import but the market shares have been decreased. The increase in the China-US IT export is the result of the changes in the market shares, changes in IT import structure. and the IT import increase. In order to increase exports toward US markets, Korea have to continue increasing the market share of communication equipments, secure competitive power toward US IT markets with the decline of Japanese's market shares, and secure technical superiority over rising competitive power of Chinas IT industry.
