Seismic isolation is one of the best-advanced methods for controlling seismic vibrations in buildings, bridges and nuclear facilities. A new Friction Multi-Layer Elastomeric Seismic Isolator (FMESI) has been modeled, analyzed and investigated by ABAQUS finite element analysis software and then, compared to real models. A number of friction cores have been used instead of the lead core therefore, some of the previous isolator problems have been almost resolved. Moreover, Studies show that the proposed isolator provides suitable initial stiffness and acceptable hysteresis behavior under different vertical and horizontal loading conditions and also internal stresses in different layers are acceptable. Also, as a result, the initial stiffness and overall area of the curves increase, as friction coefficients of the cores increase, although the frictional coefficients must be within a certain range.

Pyro-shock generally refers to the severe mechanical transients caused by the detonation of an ordnance device on a structure. Such device on a structure, including linear explosive, and point explosive are widely used to accomplish in-flight separation of structural elements on aerospace vehicle. And they are a significant cause of launch vehicle failures. The launch vehicle being developed in Korea also uses the explosive for separation events. In this paper, the isolator equipped to small satellite launch vehicle made of PTFE(Teflon) is developed to reduce the separation shock. The test to measure dynamic stiffness of PTFE isolator is performed. This test enables us to find the frequency range of PTFE isolator. And,, pyre-shock test using explosive to evaluate the performance of PTFE isolator is executed. from this study, the isolator conformed to frequency range and load requirement is developed using PTFE instead of rubber.

The most effective passive vibration control and seismic resistance options in a reinforced concrete (RC) high-rise building (HRB) are the base isolation and the tuned mass damper (TMD) system. Many options, which may be suitable or not for different soil types, with different types of bearing systems, like rubber isolator, friction pendulum isolator and tension/compression isolator, are investigated to resist the base straining actions under five different earthquakes. TMD resists the seismic response, as a control system, by reducing top displacement or the total movement of the structure. Base isolation and TMDs work under seismic load in a different way, so the combination between base isolation and TMDs will reduce the harmful effect of the earthquakes in an effective and systematic way. In this paper, a comprehensive study of the combination of TMDs with three different base-isolator types for three different soil types and under five different earthquakes is conducted. The seismic response results under five different earthquakes of the studied nine RC HRB models (depicted by the top displacement, base shear force and base bending moment) are compared to show the most suitable hybrid passive vibration control system for three different soil types.

The present study investigated the physiological evaluation of cloned mini-pigs in a transportable isolator. Transportable isolator was designed and manufactured by our research team for transporting gnotobiotic pig. Until now, no previous reports are available regarding the physiological activities and harmful effects when pigs were transported in this isolator. Five cloned mini-pigs of 1~2 year (s) old female with a body weight between 80~90 kg were used. The effects of transportable isolator on stress-related hormone, adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) and cortisol levels, and heart rate were evaluated. In addition, it was also examined the effects of transportable isolator on blood chemistry factors (alanine aminotransferase: ALT, aspartate aminotransferase: AST, blood urea nitrogen: BUN, glucose, and creatinine). Blood was sampled just before the beginning of transport (T0), at the end of transport (30min after the transport; T1), and 30 min after the end of transport (T2). At the same time, heart rate was also evaluated. As a result, heart rate had no significant (p>0.05) differences at the various-time points of study (T0, T1, T2). However, heart rate was slightly higher than normal range in T1 and T2. The ACTH level was higher than normal range. Whereas, the cortisol level was lower than normal range. There were no statistical significant differences both ACTH and cortisol level between different time groups. Also, there were no significant differences in blood chemistry factors. Therefore, our present study shows that transportable isolator has no harmful effect on stress and physiological condition in cloned mini-pigs.

In order to apply seismic isolators to low-cost buildings, seismic isolators have to be low-cost and light. In this paper fiber reinforced strip form isolator in which the steel plates of conventional rubber bearing were replaced by fiber was proposed. The proposed fiber reinforced strip form isolator was designed, fabricated, cut and subjected to vertical test and horizontal test. Therefore, fiber reinforced strip form isolator was to be shown valid in the view point of fabrication and application to desired size. The horizontal test and vertical test have shown that fiber reinforce strip form isolator could be replaced the rubber isolator. By these results, low-cost and light seismic isolator can be applied to the low-cost building.

Reaction Wheel Assembly (RWA) is one of the major disturbance sources that have influence upon the Line of Sight (LOS) of payload. A micro-vibration induced by RWA is propagated through the satellite structure and decrease the LOS stability performance of payload. This effect shall be analyzed through the jitter analysis. If a requirement or specification of payload jitter level is found to be not satisfied according to the jitter analysis campaign, some modification or redesign should be done on the satellite structure or a couple of isolator should be attached on the RWA interface in order to reduce the transmitted vibration level of RWA. The purpose of ???RWA isolator test? is to roughly evaluate the performance of vibration suppression level with a passive RWA isolator made of rubber. For this test, actual RWA is used as a vibration source and a couple of cube-shaped rubber mount designed for satellite is used as a passive isolator. There may be several considerations in order to accommodate RWA isolator to spacecraft such as not only vibration reduction performance but also thermal conduction problem, mechanical size, RWA alignment problem, etc. But in this report the feasibility of RWA isolator is analyzed only in a vibration suppression point of view. As a result, high frequency vibration of RWA above 50Hz is perfectly attenuated with isolators, however, first harmonic components below 50Hz became larger due to the additional low frequency resonance modes of roll, pitch, yaw rigid body motion of RWA+bracket.

In general, pyroshock is generated from the actuation of separation devices for several stage, fairing, and satellite separation in the flight of a launch vehicle. During these events, transient vibration phenomenon called pyroshock, which shows large acceleration in the high frequency range, occurs and it can result in the malfunction of electronic components which is equipped inside the launch vehicle or satellite. In this paper, mesh washer isolators made out of SMA were introduced for the isolation of pyroshock. One type of isolator primarily used pseudoelastic characteristics of SMA and the other type of isolator used shape memory effect of SMA. For the study of basic load-displacement relationship of each SMA isolator, compressive loading tests were performed and the results showed the capability of the isolator itself. Pyroshock isolation tests were followed and verified the outstanding isolation performance of isolator. In addition, random vibration tests were also performed and checked the dynamic characteristics of each SMA isolator.
In this study, finite element modeling and material property tests are performed for the finite element analysis of rubber isolator parts which support the engine and isolate the vibration. As a result of the P direction analysis of the rubber isolator parts, the static stiffness in the P direction was 44.2 kg/mm, which is well within the error of 5% as compared with the test result of 46.1 kg/mm. The static stiffness of the rubber isolator parts in the Q direction was calculated to be 7.9 kg/mm, which is comparable to the test result of 8.6 kg/mm, with an error of less than 8%. As a result of the analysis on the Z direction, the static stiffness was calculated as 57.7 kg/mm, and the test results were not available. Through this study, it is expected that the time and cost for prototype development can be reduced through nonlinear finite element analysis for rubber isolator parts.

Air-spring is widely used in vibration isolation to reduce the table vibration. When a disturbance is applied to a table, however, it starts virbrating with a low frequency, but has a large displacement due to the reacting force of air-spring. In this study, to solve the table vibration problem, an active vibration control device based on state feedback control using air-spring and proportional control valves was designed. This device can suppress the displacement of the isolation table within allowable range, even any kind of disturbances are applied to the table. Firstly, theoretical analysis of an air-spring isolator was done. Secondly, characteristics of the isolator was investigated via computer simulation and experiment. Finally, active control of air-spring isolator was tested using optimal(LQG) and fuzzy control algorithms was performed to show the effectiveness of the control schems.
