Numerous mycoutaneous island flaps or free flaps have been used to reconstruct a defect which resulted from the wide resection of tumor mass in head and neck region. Since the curative resection of tumor usually include muscles and bones as well as skin and mucosa, the anatomical and functional restoration of the defect depend on which and what amount of tissues were provided to cover the defect; good aesthetic appearance subsequently follows the result. Furthermore, a simultaneous neck nodes dissection usually results in exposure of major neck vessels., which should be protected with sufficient padding. The ideal method to reconstruct a defect in the head and neck region requires a sufficient coverage by muscle layer with good vascularity, a wide arc of rotation, and minimization of donor site defect. The pectoralis major myocutaneous flap which was first decribed by Ariyan and lateral trapezius myocutaneous flap by Demergasso meet these criteria. We describe the use of these myocutaneous flaps in reconstruction of mandible and oral cavity.

This study aimed at quantifying the impact of the reinforced standard for envelope insulation on heating and cooling energy consumption in a Korean detached house as well as at identifying the effect of regionally subdivided standards. For them, a series of simulations for application of the reinforced standard on respective walls, roof, floor, windows, and all envelopes were computationally conducted for a prototypical detached residential building. In addition, the subdivided standards were applied to each regions-central and southern regions, and the Jeju island. Analysis revealed that heat transfer through envelopes was the most significant source of building heat gain and loss; the reinforced standard effectively reduced heating energy consumptions, especially in central region; and the subdivided standards did not presented a clear difference in the amount of energy consumption for the southern region and the Jeju island, thus, a further study is required to investigate the necessity of regional subdivisions.
Taean county region has been economically lagged behind compared with other areas in Chungnam Province mainly due to disadvantages of the location such as traffic accessibility, social infrastructure and industrial complex. However, recently Taean region has been emerged as newly prospective area because west coastal highway will be constructed to connect Seoul urban area to famous beach sites, recreational facilities along the seaside of Taean county, where International Flower Exhibition will also be held in Anmyon Island for the year of 2002. This Paper aims to explore how International Flower Exhibition is contributing to the development of local economy of Taean County area and to suggest the strategies for the development of this area through promoting spread effects of these international events. It is estimated that although there will be loss of 32,987 thousands won during the period of international flower festival based on the cash flow analysis, long run profits would be 108 trillion won, when calculating indirect benefits derived from the sight seeing, flower sales and other incomes from various activities. In order to maximize post benefits of international flower event, it is suggested that Taean county should pursue the strategies for specializing in cultural events such as family recreational events, beach festival and traditional cultural events, improving the social infrastructure and promoting the local industry such as flower, tourism and advanced technological enterprises.
Endophytic fungi were isolated from the leaves of diverse plants inhabiting Jeju Island, Korea. The fungal isolates were identified through phylogenetic analyses incorporating nucleotide sequences derived from the internal transcribed spacer region, large subunit region of ribosomal DNA, and beta-tubulin gene. Our results identified six endophytic fungi previously unknown in Korea namely, Diaporthe goulteri, Diaporthe vaccini, Rhizosphaera pini, Valsa friesii, Xylaria primorskensis, and Zalerion arboricola were identified. Here, we present their cultural and morphological characteristics and phylogenetic relationship.

Megabenthos samples were collected using 10-min trawls towed at 17 stations from 2015 to 2016. The dominant species (>1% of the total density) were Stegophiura sterea (10.4%) and two subtropical species, Mactrinula dolabrata (9.0%) and Acila divaricate (8.3%), respectively. The community structure of the megabenthos fell into four groups: the southeast, the southernmost region off Jeju Island, the frontal zone of the South Sea with C3, and a diagonal area from the south coast to the western side of Jeju Island. The total numbers of species, diversity, density and biomass were higher in the C3 region of the South Sea. Environmental factor analysis showed that differences in the megabenthos community were related to depth, gravel contents, and sorting value (${\sigma}$). These results indicate that changes in the marine environmental conditions in the South Sea of Korea affect the megabenthos species' composition and diversity.
Cancer/testis (CT) antigens exhibit highly tissue-restricted expression and are considered promising targets for cancer vaccines. Here we identified a novel CT gene ZNF645 which restrictively expresses in normal human testes and lung cancer patients (68.3%). To investigate the promoter methylation status of ZNF645, we carried out bisulfite genomic sequencing and found that the CpG island in its promoter was heavily methylated in normal lung tissues without the expression of ZNF645, whereas there was high demethylation in normal human testes and lung carcinoma tissues with its expression. Also ZNF645 could be remarkably activated in A549 and HEK293T cells treated by DNA demethylation agent 5'-aza-2'-deoxycytidine. And the dual luciferase assay revealed that the promoter activity of the ZNF645 was inhibited by methylation of the CpG island region. Therefore, we proposed that ZNF645 is a CT gene and activated in human testis and lung cancers by demethylation of its promoter region.
Riverside forests make a river bank stable because trees of them hold together the stone and soil by roots and decrease the speed of running fluid by trunks. So they become known to have positive effects on flood prevention. So This study will be a basic study to preserve and restore of riverside forests. The goal of this study is to classify types of Han riverside forests between Yangpyeng and Yeoju gun. and find out sites of planting. Results of this study can be summarized as follows; The evaluation indicators were set up based on literature review and site survey. Two indicator categories were developed: natural environment and human environment. And they were divided into 5 sub-categories for calculating weights. As for the major indicator categories, the weighted index of natural environment is at 0.5. And the weighted index of human environment is at 0.5 followed by access at 0.15, the range of user at 0.15, cultivated land at 0.1 and legislation at 0.1. This study selected 53 sites for riverside forests planting. They were classified with types of bank(11), level-upped riverside(32), island(10). The amount of the length of 11 bank types is 23,050m, the area of 32 level-upped riverside types is $4,490,000m^2$ and the area of 10 island types is $4,590,000m^2$. After the evaluation of 53 riverside forests, this study selected 12 sites of riverside forests. They were two bank types, nine level-upped riverside types, and one island type. Rebuilding riverside forests are to accomplish the green network which links and divides region. It will be one of the best ecological methods to construct friendly environmental region.

Nowcasting algorithms using weather radar data are mostly based on extrapolating the radar echoes. We estimate the echo motion vectors that are used to extrapolate the echo properly. Therefore, understanding the general characteristics of these motion vectors is important to improve the performance of nowcasting. General characteristics of radar-based motions are analyzed for warm season precipitation over Jeju region. Three-year summer season data (June~August, 2011~2013) from two radars (GSN, SSP) in Jeju are used to obtain echo motion vectors that are retrieved by Variational Echo Tracking (VET) method which is widely used in nowcasting. The highest frequency occurs in precipitation motion toward east-northeast with the speed of $15{\sim}16m\;s^{-1}$ during the warm season. Precipitation system moves faster and eastward in June-July while it moves slower and northeastward in August. The maximum frequency of speed appears in $10{\sim}20m\;s^{-1}$ and $5{\sim}10m\;s^{-1}$ in June~July and August respectively while average speed is about $14{\sim}15m\;s^{-1}$ in June~July and $8m\;s^{-1}$ in August. In addition, the direction of precipitation motion is highly variable in time in August. The speed of motion in Lee side of the island is smaller than that of the windward side.
In 2017, total coliform (TC), fecal coliform (FC) and fecal Streptococci (FS) bacteria were examined in seawater samples collected at coastal sites on Jeju Island (Aewol as a control, Namwon, and Daejeong) and at Pohang (Yeongil as a control, Guryongpo-North, and Guryongpo-South) to examine the correlations between the density of fish farms and distributions of the indicator bacteria. Only a few TC, FC, and FS colonies were detected in all of the samples obtained from Jeju Island. Of note, 2,000 and 1,000 CFU of FS $100mL^{-1}$ were detected in samples from Guryongpo-South in June and August, respectively. Although the total area of approved fish farms located within 5 km of the sampling point at Guryongpo-South is 5-16 times smaller than in other regions, the number of indicator bacteria was highest in this region. Therefore, microbiological pollution in the Guryongpo-South region might be due to sources other than the effluent released from nearby fish farms.

In September and October 2020, combined acoustic and trawl surveys were conducted in the northwestern sea of Jeju Island. In the survey area, a region, so called Jeju region, was designated to esimate the biomass of chub mackerel and jack mackerel using a trawl survey method and frequency difference method. In the September survey, the weight ratios of jack mackerel and chub mackerel to the total catch were 24.6% and 2.8%, respectively, and in the October survey, those ratios were 24.9% and 20.7%, which were used to calculate their biomass (trawl survey). Using the frequency difference range (-8 to -3dB) corresponding to two species in 120 and 200 kHz, their biomass was estimated (frequency difference method). As a result, the biomass of two species from the trawl method was 3252.3 tons in September and 5777.0 tons in October. The estimated biomass by the frequency difference method was 4926.6 tons in September and 7521.5 tons in October. It was the first trial to estimate the biomass of two species using the trawl and frequency differencing methods in South Korea although there were some differences between two methods. In addition, horizontal distributions of acoustic backscattering strength over the entire survey area were mapped.
