Friction and Wear Properties of Cu and Fe-based P/M Bearing Materials

  • The performances of porous bearings under different operating conditions were experimentally investigated in this study. Material groups studied are 90%Cu + 10%Sn bronze and 1%C + % balance Fe iron-based self-lubricating P/M bearings at constant (85%) density. In the experiments, the variation of the coefficient of friction and wear ratio of those two different group materials for different sliding speeds, loads, and temperatures were investigated. As a result, the variation of the friction coefficient-temperature for both constant load, and constant sliding speed, friction coefficient-average bearing pressure, PV-wear loss and temperature-wear loss curves were plotted and compared with each other for two materials, separately. The test results showed that Cu-based bearings have better friction and wear properties than Fe-based bearings.

  • The ball screw is one of the important mechanical parts for the linear motion feeding systems. The usage of the ball screw has been growing in various industrial fields such as CNC machine tool, industrial robot and automated systems. Because of ever increasing demand for ball screws, increased accuracy and quality of the ball screw is needed,especially the surface roughness of the ball contact area in order to diminish noise and vibration. Therefore to improve the surface roughness of the area,we introduced magnetic assisted polishing which is one of the new potential polishing methods. In this study, diamond slurry and iron powder was used for magnetic assisted polishing of the ball bearing surface. This polishing process was experimentally confirmed to improve the surface roughness of the ball bearing.

부분 오스테나이트화 후 항온 변태한 1.0C-1.5Cr 베어링강의 미세조직 특성 (Microstructural Characterization in Partially Austenitized and Isothermally Transformed 1.0C-1.5Cr Bearing Steels)

  • Metallographic observation was carried out by scanning and transmission electron microscopy to evaluate microstructural characteristics of partially austenitized and isothermally transformed 1.0C-1.5Cr bearing steel. It was observed that lower bainite formed in the local region of specimen partially austenitized and isothermally held at $250^{\circ}C$ for 1/3 hr and formed in almost all area of the specimen isothermally held at $250^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs. Lower bainitic carbides with midrib was also observed in the specimen partially austenitized and isothermally held at $250^{\circ}C$ for 4 hrs. Midrib was nearly carbide-free region and thicker in the vicinity of spherical carbides than the other region. Lengthening speed of lower bainitic carbides was remarkabey increased at isothermal holding time ranging from 2 hrs to 4 hrs.

Formation of surface mediated iron colloids during U(VI) and nZVI interaction

  • We investigated that removal of aqueous U(VI) by nano-sized Zero Valent Iron (nZVI) and Fe(II) bearing minerals (controls) in this study. Iron particles showed different U(VI) removal efficiencies (Mackinawite: 99%, green rust: 95%, nZVI: 91%, magnetite: 87%, pyrite: 59%) due to their different PZC (Point of Zero Charge) values and surface areas. In addition, noticeable amount of surface Fe(II) (181 ${\mu}M$) was released from nZVI suspension in 6 h and it increased to 384 ${\mu}M$ in the presence of U(VI) due to ion-exchange of U(VI) with Fe(II) on nZVI surface. Analysis of Laser-Induced Breakdown Detection (LIBD) showed that breakdown probabilities in both filtrates by 20 and 200 nm sizes was almost 24% in nZVI suspension with U(VI), while 1% of the probabilities were observed in nZVI suspension without U(VI). It indicated that Fe(II) colloids in the range under 20 nm were generated during the interaction of U(VI) and nZVI. Our results suggest that Fe(II) colloids generated via ion-exchange process should be carefully concerned during long-term remediation site contaminated by U(VI) because U could be transported to remote area through the adsorption on Fe(II) colloids.

표면 로울링시 가압력이 표면 조도에 미치는 영향 (An effect of load on surface roughness in surface rolling)

  • 본 연구에서는 금속 표면의 정밀가공법을 연구대상으로 하여 구상흑연주철시 편을 미량의 테이퍼로 연삭가공하고 NACHI 6000ZZ 볼 베어링을 로울러로 사용하여 로 울러 다듬질을 행함으로써 로울러 지름 변화에 따른 가압력이 표면조도에 미치는 영향 을 구명하는데 목적을 두었으며 아울러 로울링(rolling)회수에 따른 펴면조도, 경도 및 직경의 변화량을 실험적으로 구명하였다.

경남지구(慶南地區)의 스카른형(型) 광상(鑛床)의 성인(成因)과 스카른광물(鑛物)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) (Studies on the Skarn-type Ore Deposits and Skarn Minerals in Gyeongnam Province)

  • Many skarn type iron ore deposits are distributed in Kimhae-Mulgeum area of Gyeongnam Province. Integrated field, mineralogic, geochemical and fluid inclusion studies were undertaken to illustrate the character and origin of the ores in this area. The iron ore deposits in this area are NS or NNE trending fracture filling magnetite veins which are developed in andesitic rocks near the contact with late Cretaceous micrographic granite bodies. Symmetrically zoned skarns are commonly developed in the magnetite veins of this area. Zoning of skarn from center to margin of the vein are as follows; garnet quartz skarn-epidote skarn-epidote orthoclase skarn-altered andesitic rocks. Major ore mineral is magnetite and small amount of hematite, pyrite, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite and sphalerite are associated. Vein paragenesis reveals four depositional stages; 1) skarn stage, 2) iron sulfide and oxide stage, 3) skarn stage, 4) sulfide stage Minute halite-bearing polyphase inclusions and liquid inclusions are contained in quartz. Filling temperatures range from $257^{\circ}$ to $370^{\circ}C$.

비소제거효율이 향상된 식물상 정화공법의 현장적용가능성 평가 (Applicability of Enhanced-phytoremediation for Arsenic-contaminated Soil)

  • A siderophore-producing bacterium (i.e., Pseudomonas aeruginosa) capable of chelating Fe3+ from its mineral form (i.e., iron oxides) was used to enhance As uptake by plants. Since As in soil is mainly associated with iron oxides, siderophore can play an important role in As mobilization through the dissolution of As-bearing iron oxides. A series of pot experiment using Pteris cretica showed that As removal by P. cretica with siderophore-producing bacteria addition increased more than three times compared to that without bacteria addition. Competition between indigenous bacteria and introduced bacteria (i.e., P. aeruginosa) was also observed, but such competition seemed not to be significant. This study suggests that enhanced-phytoremediation by siderophore-producing bacteria addition could be a visible option for longterm As removal in the forest area at the former Janghang smelter site.

  • Present states on reutilization of metal-bearing solid wastes in China including metal-containing gangue, red mud, nonferrous metallurgical slag or residue, arsenical slag, steel - iron slag, waste batteries, were described in detail. The wastes pile up at a large quantity, resulting in seriously potential harm to environment. Most of these wastes, however, contain valuable metals, which are regarded as important secondary resources for extracting metals. Waste slag and batteries with a high grade of metals are treated by a hydro-based and / or pyre-based method for extracting valuable metals. While gangue and waste slag with a low grade are as a raw material in architecture field. In the future, a novel technology, such as high-grads magnetization separation technique and biological technique, will be designed to treat these wastes for protecting environment and recycling valuable components. These wastes, furthermore, are synthetically reutilized to produce various architectural materials, including glass and ceramics.

정상식과 채식을 하는 여대생의 영양상태에 관한 연구 (The Nutritional Status of Female Collegian on Normal Diet and Lacto-Ovo-Vegetarian)

  • The purpose of this study is to discribe the nutritional status between female collegians on normal diet and lacto-ovo-vegetarian in the child bearing age. Physical examination, hematological parameters(hemoglobin, hematocrit, serum iron, serum albumin)and nutrient intake by dietary survey were carried out on each subject. Serum zinc, iron and copper concentrations were also determined. The results are summarized as follows : 1) Students on normal diet had higher values than lacto-ovo-vegetarian students in the height, weight, and skinfold thickness. 2) Hemoglobin, hematocrit, serum albumin values of the two groups showed no difference. But students on normal diet were higher in the serum irom and copper values than lacto-ovo-vegetarian students. 3) Serum zinc values differed significantly between the vegetarians and non vegetarians (Vegetarians') > non vegetarians') 4) On the nutrient intake of two groups, students on normal diet were higher than lacto-ovo-vegetarian students in the protein but students on normal diet were lower than lacto-ovo-vegetarian students in iron, vitamin A, $vitamin\;B_{2}$, vitamin C and crude fiber. 5) Intakes of calories and protein in the two groups were lower than RDA but Ca, vitamin A, $vitamin\;B_{1}$, $vitamin\;B_{2}$ niacin and vitamin C intakes of the two groups was higher than RDA. 6) Amounts of iron absorbed showed no difference in the two groups. But iron absorption rate was higher in students on normal diet than lacto-ovo-vegetarian students.

TiO2 제조를 위한 일메나이트 처리기술 현황 (Current Status of Ilmenite Beneficiation Technology for Production of TiO2)

  • 타이타늄은 지각 구성원소 중 아홉 번째로 풍부한 원소이며, 철과 밀접한 관계를 가지고 있다. 타이타늄 광석으로부터 안료급의 $TiO_2$나 금속 타이타늄 제조를 위한 순수한 $TiCl_4$를 제조하기 위해서는 일메나이트 중에 함유되어 있는 철 성분을 제거하여야 한다. 본 연구에서는 합성 루타일과 $TiO_2$를 제조하는 여러 가지 프로세스를 비교하여 고찰하였다. 대부분의 프로세스는 건식야금과 습식야금을 조합한 것이며, 이러한 프로세스에서는 상당한 량의 철염, 철 산화물 및 폐산이 발생하고 있다. 따라서 일메나이트를 처리하기 위한 새로운 프로세스를 개발하기 위해서는 폐산의 재이용과 철 부산물의 유가 자원화가 중요하다.
