  • An efficient and environment friendly method has been described for the synthesis of various 2-alkyl-4-hydroxy-2H-1,2-benzothiazine-3-carboxamide-1,1-dioxides starting from N-alkylation of sodium obenzosulfimide in an ionic liquid for the first time. Ring cleavage and ring closure of the resulting product were achieved in a single step in a cost effective solvent (methanol) followed by N-alkylation of resulting alkyl 4-hydroxy-2H-1,2-benzothiazine-3-carboxylate in ionic liquid while boron triflouride was used as a catalyst along with molecular sieves in carboxamide formation step.

  • SAN/$BMIPF_6$ nanofibers were fabricated by an electrospinning process and used as chemiresistors for sensing alcohol vapours. A hydrophobic and air-stable ionic liquid, $BMIPF_6$, was used to impart electrical conductivity to insulating SAN nanofibers. The effects of $BMIPF_6$ addition on the morphology of the nanofibers were explained in terms of surface tension, viscosity and conductivity. After exposing the SAN/$BMIPF_6$ nanofibers collected on an interdigitated electrode to alcohol vapours (ethanol, 1-propanol and 1-butanol), the resistance of the nanofibers decreased due to adsorption of alcohol molecules. The electrospun SAN/$BMIPF_6$ nanofibers sensor exhibited good sensitivity and reproducibility.

  • It is demonstrated that graphene sheets are produced via thermal reduction of graphene oxide (GO) in the presence of imidazoium-based poly (ionic liquid) (PIL). PILs plays an important role in minimizing the reduction time and dispersing graphene sheets in organic solvents. In addition, as-obtained graphene sheets are found to be functionalized with PIL molecules by the strong interaction of PIL and the graphene, as analyzed by various physical methods such as atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray photoelectric spectroscopy (XPS) and Raman spectroscopy. Such a strong interaction allows the successful production of graphene/PIL composites, in which their electrical properties are controllable by the loading level of graphene in the PIL matrix.

  • In a previous report, we demonstrated that poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) derived from poly (ionic liquid) (PEDOT:PIL) constitutes a polymeric hole-injecting material capable of improving device lifetime in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs).was attributed to aprotection characteristic of PEDOT:PIL for the indium extraction from ITO electrodes, which frequently occurrs in the OLED device with the conventional PEDOT materials. In this study, we report the OLED device lifetime as well asvice efficiencycan be further improved with the modified PEDOT:PIL in whichorganic compounds are incorporated. The deviced performance will be presented in terms of device lifetime and efficiencies.

  • A comprehensive comparative investigation of small carbohydrates in laser desorption ionization was performed on supporting materials composed of sodiated 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid (DHB), carbon nanotubes, an ionic liquid matrix of DHB-pyridine, a binary matrix of DHB-aminopyrazine, zinc oxide nanoparticles, and gold nanoparticles. The abundance of $[M+Na]^+$ ions, where M is glucose or sucrose, was compared for each supporting material. The highest sensitivity for both glucose and sucrose, with a detection limit of 3 pmol, was observed with carbon nanotubes. Both carbon nanotubes and the ionic liquid matrix exhibited the highest reproducibility.

  • The cycling behavior of $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ electrode in the ionic liquid (IL)-based electrolytes containing 1-butyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl) imide and a small amount of additive (vinylene carbonate, ethylene carbonate, fluoroethylene carbonate) was investigated. The $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ electrode in the IL electrolyte with an additive exhibited reversible cycling behavior with good capacity retention. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and FTIR studies revealed that an electrochemically stable solid electrolyte interphase was formed on the $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ electrode in the presence of vinylene carbonate and ethylene carbonate during cycling.

  • A simple, highly efficient and environmentally benign method for the synthesis of 3-styrylchromones from 3-formylchromones and 4-nitrophenylacetic acid/4-nitrotolune in the presence of catalytic amount of basic ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hydroxide [(bmim)OH] carried out under the influence of microwave irradiation. This method gives remarkable advantages such as, short reaction times, simple work-up procedure and moderate to good yields. The ionic liquid was successfully reused for four cycles without significant loss of activity.

  • A room-temperature ionic liquid (RTIL) derived from 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO) consisting of tetrafluoroborate anion, 1-butyl-4-(4-sulfonylbutyl)-1,4-diazoniabicyclo[2.2.2]octane hydrogen sulfate tetrafluoroborate ($[C_4DABCOC_4SO_3H][BF_4][HSO_4]$) was synthesized and catalytically evaluated in the synthesis of 14-aryl-14H-dibenzo[a,j]xanthenes by cyclocondensation reaction of ${\beta}$-naphthol and aryl aldehydes. This novel RTIL with an acidic $SO_3H$ group showed high catalytic activity with good to excellent yields of the desired products in short reaction times. Moreover, the catalyst could be recovered and reused at least three times with only slight reduction in its catalytic activity.

  • A polymer support immobilized acidic ionic liquid was prepared by copolymerization of 3-vinyl-1-(4-sulfonic acid)butylimidazolium hydrogen sulfate with styrene in the presence of benzoyl peroxide and its primary application as a solid acidic heterogeneous catalyst to the synthesis of Hantzsch 1,4-dihydropyridines through a one-pot three-component reaction of aromatic aldehydes, ethyl acetoacetate and ammonium acetate was investigated. The results showed that this heterogeneous catalyst has high catalytic activity and the desired products were obtained in good to high yields. Moreover, the catalyst was found to be reusable and a considerable catalytic activity still could be achieved after third run.

  • At room-temperature, a facile, seedless, and environmentally benign green route for the synthesis of star like PbS nanoclusters at 7 min in aqueous solution of 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium ethyl sulfate, [EMIM] [$EtSO_{4}$], room-temperature ionic liquid (RTIL), via ultrasonic irradiation is proposed. The X-ray diffraction studies display that the products are excellently crystallized in the form of cubic structure. An energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) investigation reveals the products are extremely pure. The absorption spectra of the product exhibit band gap energy of about 4.27 eV which shows an enormous blue shift of 3.86 eV that can be attributed to very small size of PbS nanoparticles produced and quantum confinement effect. A possible formation mechanism of the PbS nanoparticles using ultrasonic irradiation in aqueous solution of the RTIL is presented.
