ZnO thin films for light emission device have been deposited on sapphire and silicon substrates by pulsed laser deposition technique(PLD). A Nd:YAG laser was used with the wavelength of 355 nm. In order to investigate the emission properties of ZnO thin films, PL measurements with an Ar ion laser as a light source using an excitation wavelength of 351 nm and a power of 100 mW are used. All spectra were taken at room temperature by using a grating spectrometer and a photomultiplier detector. ZnO exhibited PL bands centered around 390, 510 and 640 nm, labeled near ultra-violet (UV), green and orange bands. Structural properties of ZnO thin films are analized with X-ray diffraction (XRD).

This work describes the adaptation of extractive scintillation by URAE $X^{TM}$ with a photon-electron rejecting alpha liquid scintillation (PERAL $S^{)}$ spectrometer to the analysis of uranium in aqueous samples. The extraction efficiency of the system was evaluated under varing chemical conditions including pH, and sample-cocktail volume ratio. Isotopic information from the (PERAL $S^{)}$ spectrum of natural uranium was obtained using a curve fitting routine. Comparisons of the result with that obtained from alpha spectrometry method using ion implanted silicon detector showed good agreement.t.
A continuous potential pulse is applied to a silver-working electrode on a pulsed amperometric detector (PAD) for detection of free cyanide and sulfide. The moving phase is 0.1 M sodium hydroxide, 0.5 M sodium acetate and 5% (v/v) ethylenediamine mixture, and the flow rate is 0.7 mL/min. Optimized pulse conditions include a -200 mV (vs. Ag/AgCl reference electrode) detection potential(Ed) for 60 msec and 50 mV cleaning potential (Ec) for 120 msec. The silver working electrode surface is not poisoned by cyanide or sulfide, and the PAD maintains long-term stability without loss of sensitivity and reproducibility at these pulse conditions. The detection limit of cyanide and sulfide separated by ion chromatography using an anion exchange column is 0.1 ppm and 0.05 ppm, respectively.

This paper presents a new type of optical silicon accelerometer using deep reactive ion etching (DRIE) and micro-stereolithography technology. Optical silicon accelerometer is based on a mass suspended by four vertical beams. A vertical shutter at the end of the mass can only moves along the sensing axis in the optical path between two single-mode optical fibers. The shutter modulates intensity of light from a laser diode reaching a photo detector. With the DRIE technique for (100) silicon, it is possible to etch a vertical shutter and beam. This ensures low sensitivity to accelerations that are not along the sensing axis. The microstructure for sensor packaging and optical fiber fixing was fabricated using micro stereolithography technology. Designed sensors are two types and each resonant frequency is about 15 kHz and 5 kHz.
This study focused on effects of patient exposure dose reduction with AEC (Auto Exposure Control) marker that is designed for showing location of AEC in X-ray Chest radiography. It included 880 adults who have to use Chest X-ray Digital Radiography system (DRS, LISTEM, Korea). AEC (Ion chambers are posited in top of both sides) are used to every adult and set X-ray system as Field size $17{\times}17inch$, 120kVp, FFD 180cm. 440 people of control group are posited on detector to include both sides of lung field and the other 440 people of experimental group are set to contact their lung directly to Ion chamber (making marker to shows location). Then, measured every DAP and, estimated patient effective dose by using PCXMC 2.0. The average age of control group (M:F=245:195) is 53.9 and the average BMI is 23.4. BMI ranges from under weight: 35, normal range: 279, over weight: 106 to obese: 20 and average DAP is 223.56mGycm2, Mean effective dose is 0.045mSv. The average age of experimental group (M:F=197:243) is 53.7 and the average BMI is 22.7. BMI ranges from under weight: 34, normal range: 315, over weight: 85 to obese: 6 and average DAP is 207.36mGycm2, Mean effective dose is 0.041mSv. Experimental group shows less Mean effective dose as 0.004mSv (9.7%) than control group. Also, patient numbers who got over exposure more than 0.056mSv (limit point to know efficiency of AEC marker) is 65 in control group (14.7%), 19 in experimental group (4.3%) and take statistics with t-Test. The statistical difference between two groups is 0.006. In order to use proper amount of X-ray in auto exposure controlled chest X-ray system, matching location between ion chamber and body part is needed, and using AEC marker (designed for showing location of ion chamber) is a way to reduce unnecessary patient exposure dose.

Purpose : To evaluate the usefulness of electronic portal imaging device through objective compare of the images acquired using an EPID and a conventional port film Materials and Methods : From Apr. to Oct. 1997, a total of 150 sets of images from 20 patients who received radiation therapy in the pelvis area were evaluated in the Inha University Hospital and Severance Hospital. A dual image recording technique was devised to obtain both electronic portal images and port film images simultaneously with one treatment course. We did not perform double exposure five to ten images were acquired from each patient. All images were acquired from posteroanterior (PA) view except images from two patients. A dose rate of 100-300 Mu/min and a 10-MV X-ray beam were used and 2-10 MUs were required to produce a verification image during treatment. Kodak diagnostic film with metal/film imaging cassette which was located on the top of the EPID detector was used for the port film. The source to detector distance was 140 cm. Eight anatomical landmarks (pelvic brim, sacrum, acetabulum. iliopectineal line, symphysis, ischium, obturator foramen, sacroiliac joint) were assessed. Four radiation oncologist joined to evaluate each image. The individual landmarks in the port film or in the EPID were rated - very clear (1), clear (2), visible (3), not clear (4), not visible (5). Results : Using an video camera based EPID system. there was no difference of image quality between no enhanced EPID images and port film images. However, when we provided some change with window level for the portal image, the visibility of the sacrum and obturator foramen was improved in the portal images than in the port film images. All anatomical landmarks were more visible in the portal images than in the port film when we applied the CLAHE mode enhancement. The images acquired using an matrix ion chamber type EPID were also improved image qualify after window level adjustment. Conclusion : The quality of image acquired using an electronic portal imaging device was comparable to that of the port film. When we used the enhance mode or window level adjustment. the image quality of the EPID was superior to that of the port film. EPID may replace the port film.

Piezoelectric pressure sensors and pyroelectric infrared detectors based on ZnO thin film have been integrated with GaAs metal-semiconductor field effect transistor (MESFET) amplifiers. Surface micromachining techniques have been applied in a GaAs MESFET process to form both microsensors and electronic circuits. The on-chip integration of microsensors such as pressure sensors and infrared detectors with GaAs integrated circuits is attractive because of the higher operating temperature up to 200 oC for GaAs devices compared to 125 oC for silicon devices and radiation hardness for infrared imaging applications. The microsensors incorporate a 1${\mu}$m-thick sputtered ZnO capacitor supported by a 2${\mu}$m-thick aluminum membrane formed on a semi-insulating GaAs substrate. The piezoelectric pressure sensor of an area 80${\times}$80 ${\mu}$m2 designed for use as a miniature microphone exhibits 2.99${\mu}$V/${\mu}$ bar sensitivity at 400Hz. The voltage responsivity and the detectivity of a single infrared detector of an area 80${\times}$80 $\mu\textrm{m}$2 is 700 V/W and 6${\times}$108cm$.$ Hz/W at 10Hz respectively, and the time constant of the sensor with the amplifying circuit is 53 ms. Circuits using 4${\mu}$m-gate GaAs MESFETs are fabricated in planar, direct ion-implanted process. The measured transconductance of a 4${\mu}$m-gate GaAs MESFET is 25.6 mS/mm and 12.4 mS/mm at 27 oC and 200oC, respectively. A differential amplifier whose voltage gain in 33.7 dB using 4${\mu}$m gate GaAs MESFETs is fabricated for high selectivity to the physical variable being sensed.
In this paper, the characteristics of therapy radiation diode sensors have been studied by using therapy radiation from the MM22 microtron accelerator. The linearity, reproducibility and error ratio were measured for feasibility as a radiation detector. Energy dependence, sensitivity change after a amount of irradiation and output value according to a number of diodes were also measured for same purpose. We have formed pulse shaping of diode signal with nuclear instruments for portal image reconstruction. The percent depth dose ratio according to field size and depth was compared with that of the detector of a ion chamber. Using thirteen silicon diodes, we can directly read diode outputs on a computer monitor after A/D conversion with 16 channels analog to digital conversion board with 12 bit resolution. The possibility for portal image with diodes has been suggested from output comparison between output value with a human phantom and that without a human phantom.
A package of space science instruments, dubbed the Instruments for the Study of Space Storms (ISSS), is proposed for the Next Generation Small Satellite-1 (NEXTSat-1), which is scheduled for launch in May 2016. This paper describes the instrument designs and science missions of the ISSS. The ISSS configuration in NEXTSat-1 is as follows: the space radiation monitoring instruments consist of medium energy particle detector (MEPD) and high energy particle detector (HEPD); the space plasma instruments consist of a Langmuir probe (LP), a retarding potential analyzer (RPA), and an ion drift meter (IDM). The space radiation monitoring instruments (MEPD and HEPD) measure electrons and protons in parallel and perpendicular directions to the geomagnetic field in the sub-auroral region, and they have a minimum time resolution of 50 msec for locating the region of the particle interactions with whistler mode waves and electromagnetic ion cyclotron (EMIC) waves. The MEPD measures electrons and protons with energies of tens of keV to ~400 keV, and the HEPD measures electrons with energies of ~100 keV to > ~1 MeV and protons with energies of ~10 MeV. The space plasma instruments (LP, RPA, and IDM) observe irregularities in the low altitude ionosphere, and the results will be compared with the scintillations of the GPS signals. In particular, the LP is designed to have a sampling rate of 50 Hz in order to detect these small-scale irregularities.
