광화학적 산화처리에 의한 Atrazine 분해 특성 (The Characteristics of Atrazine Decomposition by Photo-chemical Oxidation Process)

  • 본 연구에서는 광화학적 산화처리에 의한 아트라진의 분해특성을 분해산물의 분석을 통하여 살펴보았다. 본 실험에서 나타난 주요 분해산물로는 OIET, OIAT, OAAT가 있었고, 이를 통하여 광산화 반응에 의한 아트라진의 주분해반응은 dechlorination과 hydroxylation임을 확인할 수 있었다. TOC의 분석 결과 광산화에 의한 아트라진의 무기화는 기대하기 어려운 것으로 판명되었으며, 염소 이온의 물질수지 분석을 통해 본 광산화 반응에 의해 아트라진의 염소기의 완전한 탈염소가 진행되었음을 알 수 있었다.

An Antioxidative and Antiinflammatory Agent for Potential Treatment of Osteoarthritis from Ecklonia cava

  • Osteoarthritis is thought to be induced by the ageing-related loss of homeostatic balance between degeneration and repair mechanism around cartilage tissue in which inflammatory mediators such as reactive oxygen species, cytokines and prostaglandins are prone to overproduction under undesirable physiological conditions. Phlorotannins are unique polyphenolic compounds bearing dibenzo-1,4-dioxin skeleton which are not found in terrestrial plants but found only in some brown algal species such as Ecklonia and Eisenia families. Phlorotanninrich extracts of Ecklonia cava including LAD103 showed significant antioxidant activities such as DPPH radical scavenging, ferric ion reduction, peroxynitrite scavenging, and inhibition of LDL oxidation, indicating their possible antioxidative interference both in onset and downstream consequences of osteoarthritis. LAD103 also showed significant down regulation of $PGE_2$ generation in LPS-treated RAW 246.7 cells, and significant inhibition of human recombinant interleukin-$1{\alpha}$-induced proteoglycan degradation, indicating its beneficial involvement in pathophysiological consequences of osteoarthritis, the mechanism of which needs further investigation. Since LAD103 showed strong therapeutic potentials in arthritic treatment through several in vitro experiments, it is highly encouraged to perform further mechanistic and efficacy studies.

피에조를 이용한 코로나 방전과 펄스교류 코로나 방전을 이용한 정전기 제거장치의 비교 연구 (A Comparative Study on the Electrostatic Eliminator of Piezo Type Ionizer and Pulse AC Corona Type Ionizer)

  • Ionizer is used for improving manufacturing process and reducing inferior goods in the clean room. As a general rule, neutralization of the electrostatic charge is most important to make TFT-LCD, PDP and OLED. Pulse AC-static eliminator with output voltage of about 10.5kV has been used these days as neutralization device. But this device has a problem with lower performance which was caused by particles-adhesion on the electrode when it has been used for a long time. So we studied to solve the problem with lower performance using high Frequency(72kHz) static eliminator which was produced by Piezo transformer device, and compared Pulse-AC type with Piezo-electronic device such as decay time and ion balance for 10 weeks periods. As a result of this study, we found that Piezo transformer device has been maintained normal condition for 10 weeks. Also, we made the rule by this study, normally Piezo transformer device has to clean the electrode during every 11th weeks.

FT-ICR 질량분석기의 신호 충실성 향상 (The Improvement in Signal Integrity of FT-ICR MS)

  • For efficient noise reduction in a Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FT-ICR) mass spectrum, a new algorithm was proposed. The suggested algorithm reduces white and electrical noise, and it improves signal-to-noise ratio. This algorithm has been optimized to reduce the noise more efficiently using the traces of signal level. The algorithm has been efficiently combined with derivative window to improve the resolution as well S/N. Time domain data was corrected for DC voltage interference. $t^n$ window was applied in time domain data to improved the resolution. However, $t^n$ window can improve the signal resolution, it will also increase the noise level in frequency domain. Therefore, newly developed noise reduction algorithm will be applied to make a balance between resolving power and S/N ratio for magnitude mode. The trace algorithm can determine the current data point with several data points (mean, past data, calculated past data). In the current calculations, we assumed data points with S/N ratio more than 3 were considered as signal data points. After the windowing and noise reduction, both resolution and signal-to-noise ratio were improved. This algorithm is applicable more efficiently to frequency dependent noise and large size data.

  • Design and fabrication issues for an L-band GaAs Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit(MMIC) Voltage Controlled Oscillator(VCO) as a component of Personal Communications Systems(PCS) Radio Frequency(RF) transceiver are discussed. An ion-implanted GaAs MESFET tailored toward low current and low noise with 0.5mm gate length and 300mm gate width has been used as an active device, while an FET with the drain shorted to the source has been used as the voltage variable capacitor. The principal design was based on a self-biased FET with capacitive feedback. A tuning range of 140MHz and 58MHz has been obtained by 3V change for a 600mm and a 300mm devices, respectively. The oscillator output power was 6.5dBm wth 14mA DC current supply at 3.6V. The phase noise without any buffer or PLL was 93dB/1Hz at 100KHz offset. Harmonic balance analysis was used for the non-linear simulation after a linear simulation. All layout induced parasitics were incorporated into the simulation with EEFET2 non-linear FET model. The fabricated circuits were measured using a coplanar-type probe for bare chips and test jigs with ceramic packages.

  • Given that lithium-ion batteries are expected to be used as power sources for electric and hybrid vehicles, thermodynamics experimentation and prediction based on experimental data were performed. Thermal, electrochemical, and electrochemical/electrical-thermal models were used for accurate battery modeling. Various applications of different battery packs were demonstrated, and thermal analysis was performed using the same experimental conditions for square and rectangular battery packs. Accurate thermal analysis for a single cell should be prioritized to determine the thermal behavior of the battery pack. The energy balance equation, which contains heat generation and heat transfer factors, defines the thermal behavior of the battery pack. By comparing battery packs of different shapes tested under the same condition, this study revealed that the rectangular battery pack is superior to the square battery pack in terms of the maximum temperature of inner cells and temperature variation between cells.

Two Crystal Structures of Dehydrated Fully $Ca^{2+}$-Exchanged Zeolte A Reacting with Rubidium Vapor

  • Two single crystals of fully dehydrated $Rb^+$ -exchanged zeolite A have been prepared by the reduction of all $Ca^{2+}$ ions in dehydrated $Ca_6$-A by rubidium vapor. Their structures were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction methods in the cubic space group Pm3m (a=12.160(2) $^{\AA}$ and 12.166(2) $^{\AA}$) at 22(1)$^{\circ}$C. In these structures, 12.4(2) to 13.3(2) Rb species are found per unit cell, more than 12 Rb$^+$ ions needed to balance the anionic charge of the zeolite framework, indicating that the sorption $Rb^0$ has occurred. In each structure, three $Rb^+$ ions per unit cell are located at the centers of the 8-rings. Six to eight $Rb^+$ ions are found opposite the 6-rings on threefold axes, and three $Rb^+$ ions are found in a sodalite unit. About 0.5 $Rb^+$ ion lies opposite a 4-ring. The structural analysis indicates the presence of a triangular rubidium cluster in the sodalite cavities. The triangular rubidium clusters may be stabilized by the coordination to two and/or three rubidium ions in the large cavity. Therefore, this cluster may be viewed as $(Rb_5)^{4+}$ and/or $(Rb_6)^{4+}$.

Effect of By-Product Gypsum Fertilizer on Methane Gas Emissions and Rice Productivity in Paddy Field

  • Rice cultivation in paddy field affects the global balance of methane ($CH_4$) as a key greenhouse gas. To evaluate a potential use of by-product gypsum fertilizer (BGF) in reducing $CH_4$ emission from paddy soil, $CH_4$ fluxes from a paddy soil applied with BGF different levels (0, 2, 4 and $8Mg\;ha^{-1}$) were investigated by closed-chamber method during rice cultivation period. $CH_4$ flux significantly decreased (p<0.05) with increasing level of BGF application. $8Mg\;ha^{-1}$ of BGF addition in soil reduced $CH_4$ flux by 60.6% compared to control. Decreased soil redox potential (Eh) resulted in increasing $CH_4$ emission through a $CO_2$ reduction reaction. The concentrations of dissolved calcium (Ca) and sulfate ion (${SO_4}^{2-}$) in soil pore water were significantly increased as the application rate of BGF increased and showed negatively correlations with $CH_4$ flux. Decreased $CH_4$ flux with BGF application implied that ${SO_4}^{2-}$ ion led to decreases in electron availability for methanogen and precipitation reaction of Ca ion with inorganic carbon including carbonate and bicarbonate as a source of $CH_4$ formation under anoxic condition. BGF application also increased rice grain yield by 16% at $8Mg\;ha^{-1}$ of BGF addition. Therefore, our results suggest that BGF application can be a good soil management practice to reduce $CH_4$ emission from paddy soil and to increase rice yield.

충남 도시지역 청소년의 음료섭취실태와 관련 요인 분석 (Beverage Consumption and Related Factors among Adolescents in the Chungnam Urban Area)

  • In order to investigate the adolescent's beverage drinking pattern and its related ecological factors, a questionnaire survey was conducted with the subjects of 920 middle and high-school students,450 boys and 470 girls, residing in 4 cities of the Chungnam area. Of the subjects 65% liked, or liked very much, beverages and only 3.7% did not like beverages. They drank beverages 4.3 $\pm$ 4.0 times a week on average, but 10.4% of them drank beverages more than twice a day. Male students drank more frequently than the females. The intake frequency of carbonated drinks was 1.7 $\pm$ 2.3 a week which was about 40% of the total beverages. However, more students drank mainly ion beverages (33.6%) than carbonated drinks (28.7%). As the students took more balanced food and ate more regularly, their beverage drinking frequency decreased and those taking carbonated drinks also tended to decrease. The more frequent the students took fast food, the more frequent they drank carbonated beverages. The drinking frequencies for beverages or carbonated beverages were also less in students eating cooked rice with sidedishes as breakfast than in students eating others. The drinking frequency for carbonated drinks showed significant correlations with the students' activities such as the time spent using computers and watching TV got longer, the drinking frequency for soft drinks was also higher. When nutritional knowledge was higher, drinking frequency for carbonated drinks got lower. In conclusion, to make the adolescents improve their attitudes toward drinking beverages and to prevent excessive drinking of carbonated drinks, they should be educated not only on the nutritional knowledge and the proper intake of beverages, but also on good dietary habits including balance, regularity, and types of meals. Proper snacking and fast food consumption also should be taught. Since ion beverages were taken more frequently than carbonated drinks among adolescents, further study is recommended on the impact of excessive intake of ion beverages.

여러 자생식물의 내염성 정도 구명 (Salt Tolerance of Various Native Plants under Salt Stress)

  • 본 실험에서는 염토지대에 조경용 식재로 사용이 가능한지 알아보기 위해 여러 과에 속하는 자생식물의 염 스트레스에 대한 내염성 정도를 조사하였다. NaCl의 처리에 따른 식물의 생육반응과 이온흡수 특성도 파악하여, 여러 식물에 대한 내성 정도를 구명하고자 하였다. 실험재료로 노랑꽃창포, 밀사초, 여우꼬리사초, 줄사초, 홍노줄사초, 애기부들, 바위 및 땅채송화 등을 이용하였다. 염농도는 0, 100, 200, 300mM로 처리해 주었다. 처리 4주 후 지상부 및 뿌리의 생체중 건물중, 엽내 무기이온 함량 등을 조사하였다. 줄사초, 왕밀사초, 여우꼬리사초, 노랑꽃창포 등은 NaCl 200mM의 고농도에서도 잘 견디는 초종으로 판단되었다. 홍노줄사초, 애기부들 등은 지하부 생육이 NaCl 100mM의 농도에서 저하되어, 지상부다 뿌리가 민감하게 반응하는 것으로 나타났다. 홍노줄사초는 K의 흡수량이 감소되었고, Na/K의 비율은 300mM의 농도에서 3으로 다른 종보다 높은 경향을 보였다. 애기부들은 NaCl의 농도가 증가됨에 따라 K, Ca, Mg의 흡수량이 일시 증가하다가 200mM의 농도부터 감소하는 경향을 보였고, Na/K의 비율은 300mM의 농도에서 0.8로 조사되었다. 땅채송화 및 바위채송화 등도 NaCl 100~200mM의 범위에서 지상부 및 지하부의 생육이 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 바위채송화는 NaCl의 농도가 증가됨에 따라 K, Ca, Mg의 흡수량이 일시 증가하다가 200mM의 농도부터 감소하는 경향을 보였고, 땅채송화는 염농도에 따라 흡수량이 영향을 받지 않는 것으로 나타났다. Na/K의 비율은 300mM의 농도에서 모두 1로 조사되었다. 그러므로, 여우꼬리사초, 왕밀사초, 줄사초, 노랑꽃창포 등은 식물의 생육 및 이온흡수 특성을 고려할 때 NaCl 200mM의 고농도에서도 잘 견디는 초종으로 판단되었고, 특히 사초과 식물들의 내염성이 검증되어 앞으로 많이 활용될 수 있으리라 사료되었다. 홍노줄사초, 애기부들, 바위채송화, 땅채송화 등은 NaCl 100mM의 농도에서도 뿌리의 생육이 저하되었으며, 염처리에 따른 잎의 이온흡수특성은 뚜렷한 경향을 보이지 않았다.
