  • Due to the rapid growth of social networking community (SNC), research into SNC user's behavior has recently emerged as an important issue in information systems. An individual makes a decision whether or not to continually use his or her own SNC and to purchase digital items to decorate it. Most previous research has focused on a user's continuance intention and has ignored the importance of purchase intention. This study develops and empirically tests an integrated model designed to predict a user's two types of behavioral intention:continuance intention and purchase intention based on the expectation-confirmation model (ECM) and a dual model of relationship maintenance mechanism. The results indicate that perceived usefulness, satisfaction, personalization, and switching cost have important influences on the formation of SNC continuance intention. The results also show that perceived usefulness and satisfaction does not have any significant impacts on purchase intention, while personalization, learning, attractiveness of alternatives, and continuance intention significantly affect it.

  • More emphasis has recently been put on the strategic application of IT, the linkage and integration between information system, and business process for value increase of a company's business. Thus, it is high time to redefine the concept of IT governance in order to effectively manage various IT services and assets. However, less attention has been paid to the practical study of domestic firms, compared to in the academic and industrial level. In this study, the current situation of IT governance setup and various factors for future development will be examined by a case study to explore activities, types, and determinants of decision making process that companies are currently conducting regarding IT governance. For the purpose of comparative analysis, two large enterprises were chosen with similar size of sales and high investment rate for IT within the same industry, and in-depth analysis was conducted based on the interviews of the concerned parties and in-house materials, from the perspective of structure, process, and relational mechanism. By the case study on IT governance of company 'A' and 'B', decision making mechanism and factors will be analyzed, which will indicate detailed characteristics of each decision-making field and its components for general application. By doing so, it is expected to be used as reference in building IT governance that fits the environment of a firm in the future.

  • To realize the spirit of the South-North Joint Declaration of June 15, 2000, the competent authorities of the South and the North of Korea have reached two Agreements to settle commercial disputes as well as to set up an arbitral organization called 'South-North Commercial Arbitration Commission'. The Commission is an institutional organization for settlement of commercial disputes arising from trade and investment between south and north Korea. Under the situation, it is becoming a problem of vital importance how to manage and control the Commission for prompt and effective settlement of south-north commercial disputes. While analyzing the above two Agreements for dispute-settlement mechanism, the author proposes desirable ideas and directions in connection with the Commission as follows: 1. First of all, the Commission should become a central common system for settlement of commercial disputes which meets the demand of capitalistic market economy. 2. The Authorities of south and north Korea should recognize that the availability of prompt, effective and economical means of disputes resolution such as arbitration and conciliation to be made by the Commission would promote the orderly growth and encouragement of south-north trade and investment. 3. The Korean Commercial Arbitration Board(KCAB) should be designated as the Arbitration Commission of South Korea because the KCAB is the only authorized institution in South Korea, statutorily empowered to settle any kind of commercial disputes at home and abroad.

  • The Co-Cr as-cast alloys are widely used in the manufacturing of orthopedic implants made with investment casting techniques because of its high strength, good corrosion resistance and excellent biocompatibility properties. Carbide precipitation at grain boundaries and interdendritic regions is the major strenthening mechanism in the as-cast condition. In this study, effects of GPS (Gas Pressured Sintering) heat-treatment on the microstructure and crystallinity of the as-cast Co-Cr alloy prepared by investment casting were investigated. It was confirmed that the content of metal carbide ($Cr_{23}C_6$) was increased in the grain boundary by using optical microscopy (OM), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS).

  • As a leading nation of ubiquitous technology, South Korea has been promoting u-City pilot projects throughout the country. According to 'Fundamental Construction Law of u-City,' u-City projects are classified into old-town and new-town types. However, most projects have focused only on the new-town type. Pushing forward large-scale land development projects, Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH Co.) under Ministry of Land Transport and Maritime Affairs (MLTM) has gained a development profit out of the u-City infrastructure and then donated the infrastructure to a local government without making any plan for operations. In the process of u-City pilot projects, old-towns have been relatively ignored and various of unexpected problems have emerged. Building the u-City of an old-town is not easy due to many constraints such as huge initial investment, long validity and verification procedures, lack of useful services for citizens, lack of professional outsourcing methods for business promotion, high operating costs of the integrated control center, inadequate law related, insufficient institutional requirements and so on. This paper introduces a case study on u-City development for an old-town, Ansan City, as a private investment project. The case will help boost u-City projects for old-towns by solving their problems and providing an effective operational mechanism. As the first BTL (Build-Transfer-Lease) project for constructing u-City, 'Broadband Information Network Development Project' of Ansan City will provide a reference model of expanding u-City projects for other cities.

  • Energy is essential factor of production for a firm to produce goods and services. If so, what is the condition of maintaining profit of a firm when energy price is going up? In conclusion, the condition is that the rate of productivity improvement should be greater than the rate of energy price increase. To put this concretely, when the elasticity of energy price as to the productivity improvement is greater than the weight of the energy cost on to the total revenue of the firm, the firm can escape the negative effect of energy price increase. This is that, saying that once more, the firm have to reduce the energy cost or promote energy efficiency to maintain appropriate or sufficient profit when energy price is going up fast. Therefore, in this study we will analyze the effect of the oil price increase on the energy saving investment and that of energy saving investment on the energy efficiency in the field of Korean manufacturing industry. In doing so, this study could show that the effect of energy price increase on the energy efficiency of the firm and the factor of that mechanism.

  • The present work analyzes the source and level of discount rate/benchmark for investment analysis on almost 4 thousand registered CDM, one of the Kyoto mechanisms, projects. As a result of analysis, the source and level of discount rate is changed as the passage of time and there are some countries that prefer certain sources and level. By project types, there is no difference among the sources but the level is not same. As the level of capital market development higher, there is a trend on changes in applying the source of discount rate, but the level is not different among groups. Finally there are no specific preferences on the sources on applying discount rate by DOE. And On analyzing, whether including China CDM projects or not influence the analysis results because China have registered a large number of projects.

  • This paper examined the nonlinear relationships between external knowledge sources and the innovation performance of SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises). Using 3,218 firm-year panel data in South Korea, this study found that increasing the number of external knowledge channels out of the value chain increases radical innovation. Meanwhile, increasing the number of external knowledge channels within the value chain increases the incremental innovation. Further, the external sources of knowledge both out of and in the value chain had inverted U-shaped relationships on radical and incremental innovation respectively. This finding implies that a mechanism of diminishing returns works in the relationship between the external sources of knowledge and innovation. The study also identified the synergistic effects between the external sources of knowledge out of the value chain and within the value chain, and confirmed that the synergistic effects strengthen the linear mechanism between the external sources of knowledge and innovation. In addition, this study found that the sources of knowledge both out of and within the value chain positively moderate the relationships between R&D investment and radical innovation of SMEs.
