Lymphoma is one of the most common malignant neoplasms of the dog. Little has been published on intraocular lymphoma in dogs. This report presents a 8-year-old neutered male mixed dog with a previous history on inflammatory debris on the anterior and posterior lens capsules, vitreal hemorrhage, generalized peri-pheral lymphadenopathy and a palpable mid-abodominal mass. History, clinical signs, radiography, cytology, histopathology and chemotherapeutic response confirmed multicentric lymphoma with secondary ocular infla-mmation. Intraocular lymphoma, the most common secondary neoplasm of the canine eye, may be the present-ing evidence of systemic disease. This report describes a dog that presented with ocular manifestations of multicentric lymphoma.
This study aimed to explore the clinical, radiological, and pathological characteristics of intraocular cysticercosis due to Taenia solium metacestode infection. Total 8 patients diagnosed with intraocular cysticercosis at the Red Cross Hospital of Yunnan Province, China were examined retrospectively. Patients with clear dioptic media had undergone fundus chromophotography. All patients underwent B ultrasonography of the ocular region (CT) successive scanning of the orbit and cerebral tissues. Parasites were extracted surgically and then examined pathologically. The fundus chromophotography showed a white and condensing scolex package in the vesicle. The B ultrasonic examination showed a vesicle-like echogenic mass in the vitreous chamber, in which the high-level echo spot was the cysticercus scolex. The pathological examinations showed that the vesicle wall exhibited hyaline degeneration, inflammatory cell infiltration, neuroglial fiber, and glial cell proliferation layers from the inside to the outside. The scolex is round and is composed of the outer tissue (the body wall) and the inner furrow tissue; these tissues migrated together. Primordially differentiated sucking discs were found in one case, but no hooklets were found. The inner scolex tissue was folded like a paper flower. The severity of intraocular disease is closely correlated with the pathophysiological processes of the cysticercus worm. Pathological examination of the intraocular lesions can help to evaluate the course of the disease as well as to provide a scientific basis for effective antiparasitic medication.

A 10-year-old spayed female beagle dog presented with a 2-month history of third-eyelid elevation in the left eye (OS). Ophthalmic examination revealed slightly diminished corneal and palpebral reflexes along with exophthalmos in the OS. Schirmer's tear test and intraocular pressure values were within the normal range for the OS. Slit-lamp biomicroscopy revealed protrusion of the third eyelid and corneal opacity in the OS. Fundoscopy revealed a prominent black mass in the OS covering the optic nerve. Tapetal hyper-reflectivity was also observed around the mass. Ocular ultrasonography showed a 0.74 × 0.67 cm echogenic posterior segment mass around the optic nerve protruding into the retrobulbar space. Computed tomography revealed a contrast-enhanced soft tissue lesion in the posteromedial aspect of the left eyeball protruding into the retrobulbar region, and the optic nerve was suspected to be involved. No evidence of osteolytic changes in the adjacent bone or distant metastasis was observed. Enucleation was performed to prevent potential metastasis or local invasion of the mass and to relieve discomfort due to exposure to keratopathy resulting from lagophthalmos. Histopathological examination revealed a central choroidal melanocytoma extending into the optic nerve. No local recurrence was detected until 16 months postoperatively.
A 14-year-old, male Shih-tzu was presented with glaucoma in the left eye. Menace response was negative in the left eye. On ophthalmic examination, exotropia, buphthalmos, bulging of upper lateral globe and episcleral injection was detected in the left eye. Also, there was corneal edema, corneal pigmentation and hyphema in the left eye. The pupil was difficult to observe due to corneal lesions in the left eye. On ultrasonographic examination, an amorphous large mass protruding from the region of the optic disc into the vitreous was observed in the left eye. Enucleation was performed in the left eye. Histologically, the left intraocular mass was diagnosed as glioma. Immunohistochemically, the neoplastic cells were positive to glial fibrillary acidic protein.

Purpose: The aim of the current study was to compare body mass index (BMI) with waist circumference (WC) as a predictor of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP). Methods: The subjects were consisted of 458 adults, aged 20 year or above, of one community in Kyunggi-do. Mean IOPs were stratified jointly for BMI and WC tertiles. Multi-variate linear regression analysis was also used to compare between BMI and WC. Results: Although any BMI tertiles were not associated with IOP within each tertile of WC, WC tertiles was significantly related to elevation of IOP within the third BMI tertile (${\geq}24.9kg/m^2$). After adjusting for age and sex, only WC showed significant association with IOP. In additional adjustment for lifestyle variables, both BMI and WC were significantly associated with elevation of IOP. However, the results showed the stronger association of IOP with WC than BMI, whether they were adjusted by age and sex or additionally lifestyle variables. Conclusions: These data showed that BMI and WC were positively associated with IOP. However, WC appeared to be a better indicator for higher IOP than BMI.
A 13-year-old spayed female Beagle dog was referred with high intraocular pressure, hyperemia, and exophthalmos of the left eye and underwent ultrasound, which revealed a mass in the ciliary body of the left eye. Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging was ordered to evaluate invasion of surrounding structures and metastasis to the brain via the optic nerve. On MR imaging, a single, well-defined, smoothly marginated, triangular-to-oval-shaped mass was found. The mass was hyperintense on T1-weighted images and hypointense on T2-weighted images, similar to a previous case of ocular melanoma. The mass originated from the ciliary body and extended from the anterior chamber to the posterior chamber. Slight enhancement was observed in the mass. There was no evidence of invasion into surrounding structures or the optic nerve, and no sign of metastasis to the brain. The mass was histopathologically diagnosed as benign uveal melanocytoma.
A 6-year old, neutered male, Maltese dog was presented in Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, Seoul National University. As hyphema and aqueous flare in the right eye were found, medical treatment for uveitis was started. Four months later, anterior displacement of dorsotemporal iris was observed. A mass originating from ciliary body of the right eye was revealed by ocular sonography. There was no evidence of metastasis on thoracic and abdominal radiographic imaging. Enucleation was performed on the right eye due to the enlargement of the mass and deteriorating uveitis. On histopathological evaluation, anterior uveal melanocytoma with chronic hemorrhage was confirmed. This case suggests adequate removal of intraocular neoplasm by enucleation can be curative in case of continuous hemorrhage or inflammation in the eye that cannot be controlled by non-surgical medications.
A 15-year-old castrated male Persian (Case 1), an 1.5-year-old castrated male Bengal (Case 2), and an 1.5-year-old spayed female Russian Blue (Case 3) cats were presented with iris-color change and suspicious anterior chamber mass. Complete ophthalmic examination revealed a vascularized or blood tinted mass filling with anterior chamber accompanied by rubeosis iridis, dyscoria, keratic precipitates, and severe aqueous flare. Ocular ultrasonography showed an iridociliary mass with blood flow signal in Case 1. Abdominal ultrasonography also revealed suspicious metastatic involvements of liver and spleen in this cat. Case 2 and 3 were suspected of being infected with feline infectious peritonitis. Topical antibiotic/steroid combinations were prescribed to control the uveitis in all 3 cases, although enucleation was initially considered for palliative pain management in Case 1. Anterior chamber mass had almost completely disappeared after topical medications and uveitis has been successfully managed, remaining in sight, even though ocular hypertension developed 1 month later in Case 1.
A 14-year-old neutered-male Shih-Tzu was referred for glaucoma and hyphema accompanied by systemic hypertension. After topical corticosteroid and antiglaucoma medications, the left eye (OS) progressed phthisically, but ocular hypertension redevelop one-year-and-seven-months later. Suspected limbal melanoma developed in peripheral cornea/limbal sclera with heavily pigmented cornea OS. Ultrasound biomicroscopy and ocular ultrasonography differentiated ciliary body origin-heterogeneous mass from limbal mass. Persistent hyphema and pigmented cornea might obscure intraocular lesion and advanced diagnostic methods played a crucial role. Unlike the generally benign limbal melanoma, aggressive treatment was recommended for uveal tumor. Histopathology of enucleated OS confirmed malignant uveal melanoma with chronic hypertensive vasculopathy.
An 8-month-old female rabbit was presented with a white intraocular mass in the right eye. Slit-lamp biomicroscopy showed a white mass behind the iris, accompanied by rubeosis iridis and aqueous flare. Ocular B-scan ultrasonography revealed hyperechoic material within the anterior chamber connected with cataractous lens in the right eye. Signs deteriorated despite treatment, and enucleation was performed. Histopathologically, phacoclastic endophthalmitis due to Encephalitozoon cuniculi infection was confirmed. This was the first report of a client-owned rabbit affected with E. cuniculi-associated phacoclastic uveitis. Serological detection of anti-E. cuniculi antibodies should be considered to prevent potential zoonotic risk.
