In accelerated life tests, the failure time of an item is observed under a high stress level, and based on the time the performances of items are investigated at the normal stress level. In this paper, when the mean of the prior of a failure rate is known in the exponential lifetime distribution with censored accelerated failure time data, we utilize the empirical Bayesian method by using the moment estimators in order to estimate the parameters of the prior distribution and obtain the empirical Bayesian predictive density and predictive intervals for a future observation under the normal stress level.
Recurrent event data can be easily found in longitudinal studies such as clinical trials, reliability fields, and the social sciences; however, there are a few observations that disappear temporarily in sight during the follow-up and then suddenly reappear without notice like the Young Traffic Offenders Program(YTOP) data collected by Farmer et al. (2000). In this article we focused on inference for a cumulative mean function of the recurrent event data with these incomplete observation gaps. Defining a corresponding risk set would be easily accomplished if we know the exact intervals where the observation gaps occur. However, when they are incomplete (if their starting times are known but their terminating times are unknown) we need to estimate a distribution function for the terminating times of the observation gaps. To accomplish this, we treated them as interval-censored and then estimated their distribution using the EM algorithm proposed by Turnbull (1976). We proposed a nonparametric estimator for the cumulative mean function and also a nonparametric test to compare the cumulative mean functions of two groups. Through simulation we investigated the finite-sample performance of the proposed estimator and proposed test. Finally, we applied the proposed methods to YTOP data.

In this paper, an evaluation of a product replacement ratio of irreparable items to the normally working ones is performed with a view to a warranty analysis. It is demonstrated that the replacement ratio during the warranty period can be estimated from the field data collected during the period of operation, and one can provide the management with a useful information regarding the appropriateness for the warranty period, which is vital to the product marketing strategy. Although warranty data usually take the form of multiply right censored interval data, the conventional reliability analysis method seems to be good enough as in this case. More sophisticated method such as warranty cost analysis and 2-dimensional warranty analysis is yet desired.

Subjects can experience two types of recurrent events in a longitudinal study. In addition, there may exist intermittent dropouts that results in repeated observation gaps during which no recurrent events are observed. Therefore, theses periods are regarded as non-risk status. In this paper, we consider a special case where information on the observation gap is incomplete, that is, the termination time of observation gap is not available while the starting time is known. For a statistical inference, incomplete termination time is incorporated in terms of interval-censored data and estimated with two approaches. A shared frailty effect is also employed for the association between two recurrent events. An EM algorithm is applied to recover unknown termination times as well as frailty effect. We apply the suggested method to young drivers' convictions data with several suspensions.
A terminal event such as death may censor an intermediate event such as relapse, but not vice versa in semi-competing risks data, which is often seen in medicine, public health, and epidemiology. We propose a Weibull regression model with a normal frailty to analyze semi-competing risks data when all three transition times of the illness-death model are possibly interval-censored. We construct the conditional likelihood separately depending on the types of subjects: still alive with or without the intermediate event, dead with or without the intermediate event, and dead with the intermediate event missing. Optimal parameter estimates are obtained from the iterative quasi-Newton algorithm after the marginalization of the full likelihood using the adaptive importance sampling. We illustrate the proposed method with extensive simulation studies and PAQUID (Personnes Agées Quid) data.

The purposes of this study are to estimate the economic value and reasonable entrance fee of the Yeido Park, which is under construction in Seoul, by conduct the face-to-face interview. A total of 645 daults were selected by two stage cluster sampling. The senario was designed to meet the requirements for doubgle-bounded dichotomous choice CVM, and distributed with the photograph to epict and compare the current and suggested conditions. A donation vehicle and entrance fee were utilized to find the possibility of strategic behaviors and protest zero, and to make the data estimatable tfor interval censored survival analysis. Date was calibrated by the survival analysis to eleminate the 'fat-tail problem'. Weibull distribution was assumed as a baseline distrubution. The mean WTP of donation and entrance fee was ₩5,281 and ₩783, respectively. The economic value of this park was determined by aggregating the mean value, giving a total WTP for the population of ₩36,861,645,000. This economic value was composed with the use value and existence value. The calibrationi of the Weibull proportional hazard model showed that nearness to the park, age, intention to isit the park, and educational attainment were significant independent variable to influence an amount of donation.
One of the most important issues in the area of clinical trial research is the determination of the sample size required to insure a specified power in detecting a real or clinically relevant difference of a stated magnitude. Increasingly, medical journals are requiring authors to provide information on the sample size needed to detect a given difference. We restrict our attention to the designs far comparirng two survival distributions. These are concerned with the survival time which is defined as the interval from a baseline(e.g. randomization) to failure (e.g. death, recurrence of disease). Survival times axe right censored when patients have not foiled by the time of analysis or have been loss to follow-up during the trial. For different types of clinical trials for comparing survival distributions, there have been marry research in sample size determination. We review the existing literature concerning commonly used sample size formulae in the design of randomized clinical trials, and compare the assumption, the power and the sample size calculation of these methods. We also compare by simulation the expected power and observed power of each method under various circumstances. As a result, guidelines in terms of practical usage are provided.
Purpose: Survival analysis of gastric cancer patients requires knowledge about factors that affect survival time. This paper attempted to analyze the survival of patients with incomplete registered data by using imputation methods. Materials and Methods: Three missing data imputation methods, including regression, expectation maximization algorithm, and multiple imputation (MI) using Monte Carlo Markov Chain methods, were applied to the data of cancer patients referred to the cancer institute at Imam Khomeini Hospital in Tehran in 2003 to 2008. The data included demographic variables, survival times, and censored variable of 471 patients with gastric cancer. After using imputation methods to account for missing covariate data, the data were analyzed using a Cox regression model and the results were compared. Results: The mean patient survival time after diagnosis was $49.1{\pm}4.4$ months. In the complete case analysis, which used information from 100 of the 471 patients, very wide and uninformative confidence intervals were obtained for the chemotherapy and surgery hazard ratios (HRs). However, after imputation, the maximum confidence interval widths for the chemotherapy and surgery HRs were 8.470 and 0.806, respectively. The minimum width corresponded with MI. Furthermore, the minimum Bayesian and Akaike information criteria values correlated with MI (-821.236 and -827.866, respectively). Conclusions: Missing value imputation increased the estimate precision and accuracy. In addition, MI yielded better results when compared with the expectation maximization algorithm and regression simple imputation methods.
In this study we estimate the survival function of duration of the legislative processes in the 17th, 18th, and 19th National Assembly of Korea, and further analyze effects of the political situation variables on the legislative process. We define the termination of legislative process from a novel perspective to alleviate issues of dependency between censoring and failure in the data. We also show that the proportional hazards assumption does not hold for the data, and analyze data employing a log-normal accelerated failure time model. The policy areas of law agendas are shown to affect the speed of legislative process in different ways and legislative process tends to be prompt in times of divided governments.
