  • Overlap is one of the techniques for increasing bit rate in chirp spread spectrum (CSS). More overlaps can offer higher data throughput; however, they may cause more intersymbol interference (ISI) at the same time, resulting in serious bit error rate (BER) performance degradation. Thus, the number of overlaps should be decided according to the required BER performance. In this paper, we derive a closed form expression for BER of the overlap-based CSS system, exploiting the approximated Gaussian Q function. The derived BER expression includes the number of overlaps as a parameter, and thus, would be very useful in determining the number of overlaps for a specified BER. The numerical results demonstrate that the BER derived in a closed form closely agrees with the simulated BER.

  • Holographic data storage is a strong contender to become the next-generation data storage method. Its major weaknesses are two-dimensional intersymbol interference between neighboring pixels and interpage interference caused by storing multiple pages in a single volume of hologram. In this paper, we present a trellis encoding scheme of 6/8 balanced modulation code, to address the two weaknesses. The proposed modulation coding scheme captures on characteristics of the balanced code: the scheme relaxes IPI and enables error correction by exploiting the trellis structure. The proposed method showed improved SNR over the conventional 6/8 modulation code.

  • In this paper, the effects of Intersymbol Interference(ISI) of Gaussian filtered minimum shift Keying (GMSK) with two-bit differential defection on the probability of error is analyzed theoretically in fast Rayleigh fading characterizing land mobile radio channels and a closed form for the probability of error is derived. Numerical results are presented for cased of interest, BT=0.25 to 0.4, taking fading rate $f_\rho$T as a parameter. It is shown that the probability of error taking the ISI of the only one adjacent bit into consideration is accurate enough to evaluate the performance of GMSK with two-bit differential detetion.

  • In this paper, we propose a blind equalization algorithm based on the error signal linearly combined a constellation-matched error (CME) and a non-constellation-matched error (non-CME). The new error signal was designed to include the non-CME term for reaching initial convergence and the CME term for improving intersymbol interference (ISI) performance of output signals, and it controls the error terms through a combining factor. By controlling the error terms, it generates an appropriate error signal for equalization process and improves convergence speed and ISI cancellation performance compared to those of conventional algorithms. In the simulation for 64-QAM and 256-QAM signals under the multipath channel and additive noise conditions, the proposed method was superior to CMA and CMA+DD concurrent equalization.

  • This paper proposes the improving the equalization performance using the adaptive modulus concept to the MCMA blind equalizer in order to the reduction of intersymbol interference which occurs in the band limited and time dispersive communication channel. In MCMA blind algorithm, it is possible to reducing the amplitude and phase rotation of intersymbol interference without training sequence, the fixed constant modulus of transmission signal is used. But in proposed algorithm, the modulus are adaptively varies according to the equalizer output signal, then the improved equalization performance were obtained by the computer simulation. For this, the recovered signal constellation that is the output of the equalizer, the convergence performance by MSE, MD (maximum distortion) and residual isi characteristic learning curve were used. The propose algorithm has fairly good performance compared to the traditional MCMA algorithm in the same adaptive equalization algorithm.

  • 본 논문에서는 STTD(space Time Transmit diversify)를 적용한 적응변조 시스템의 성능을 분석하였다. 무선채널 환경에서는 지연파에 의한 ISI(Intersymbol interference)간섭으로 인해 전송 오율을 증가시키게 된다.

  • The Maximum Likelihood Sequence Estimation scheme is modified to improve the error performance of the correlative coding in the Tamed FM. To remove intersymbol interference, the Decision Feedback Equalization scheme with the delayed LMS algorithm and the Viterbi algorithm(10-symbol delay) in the delayed adaptive equalization are proposed for the performance of decision-directed adaptive equalization under the High Frequency channels, and the condition of convergence is analyzed.

  • We investigate misalignment characteristics of 5/8 modulation code for holographic data storage. The 5/8 modulation code does not have any isolated patterns that is the most unwanted problem for holographic data storage. As the results, the 5/8 modulation code showed a strong side of misalignments, and the code has the best performance among uncoded, 5/9, and 6/8 modulation codes when there are large misalignments.

  • This paper proposes the RMMA (Region based Multiple Modulus Algorithm) algorithm that is possible to improving the performance of MMA adaptive equalization algorithm in order to the reduction of intersymbol interference occurs at the communication channel. In RMMA algorithm, the output constellation of equalizer are divided by 4 different regions in order to get the error signal for adapting the channel characteristic, and the small error signal is obtained by mapping each region to 4-QAM signal. The conversion effect of constant modulus from nonconstant modulus signal was obtained. In this paper, the adaptive equalization performance of proposed RMMA were evaluated comared to the present MMA. As a result of computer simulation, the convergence speed and residual quantity were improved in residual isi and MD. Especially the superiorities of robustness was confirm in SER performance compared to present MMA.

  • Since holographic data storages read and write information on a volume and the information is processed per page, it has the advantage of high recording density and data transfer rate. However, there are two major drawbacks like 2-dimensional intersymbol interference and interpage interference as the density between pixels increases. Furthermore, a bright page that contains many ON pixels influences the reliable detection of the neighboring pages, which causes the less number of pages stored in the storage volume. We propose a sparse-ON pixel two-dimensional modulation code with the code rate 6/8 for increasing the number of pages stored in the volume. The proposed code is compared to conventional 6/8 balanced code, and it shows similar or a little bit better performance than that of the balanced code. Therefore, the proposed code can increase the recording capacity without loss of the performance.
