  • This study deals with the traffic accident of truck at circular intersection. The purpose of this study is to develop the truck accident models based on type of accident and conflict. In pursuing the above, the study gives particular attentions to selecting the appropriate models among Poisson and Negative binomial models using statistical program LIMDEP 8.0. The traffic accident data from 2007 to 2014 are collected from TAAS data set of Road Traffic Authority. Such the dependent variable as number of truck accidents and the 24 independent variables as geometry, traffic volume and others are used. The main results are as follows. First, 5 Poisson models (${\rho}^2$ of 0.164~0.351) which are all statistically significant are selected. Second, the common variable based on type of accident and conflict is analyzed to be truck apron width. The specific variables are, however, evaluated to splitter island, area of splitter island, speed limit sign, truck apron, number approach road, circular intersection sign, speed hump and traffic volume. Finally, widening the truck apron width and improving the above specific variables are analyzed to be important for truck accident reduction at circular intersections.

  • PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to develop a crash prediction model at signalized intersections, which can capture the randomness and uncertainty of traffic accident forecasting in order to provide more precise results. METHODS : The authors propose a random parameter (RP) approach to overcome the limitation of the Count model that cannot consider the heterogeneity of the assigned locations or road sections. For the model's development, 55 intersections located in the Daejeon metropolitan area were selected as the scope of the study, and panel data such as the number of crashes, traffic volume, and intersection geometry at each intersection were collected for the analysis. RESULTS : Based on the results of the RP negative binomial crash prediction model developed in this study, it was found that the independent variables such as the log form of average annual traffic volume, presence or absence of left-turn lanes on major roads, presence or absence of right-turn lanes on minor roads, and the number of crosswalks were statistically significant random parameters, and this showed that the variables have a heterogeneous influence on individual intersections. CONCLUSIONS : It was found that the RP model had a better fit to the data than the fixed parameters (FP) model since the RP model reflects the heterogeneity of the individual observations and captures the inconsistent and biased effects.

  • PURPOSES : Traffic congestions which occur in the intersections of arterials lead to mobility and environment problem, and then traffic agencies and engineers have been struggling for mitigating congestions with greenhouse gas emissions. As an alternative of solving theses problems, this study is to introduce a low-cost and high-effectiveness countermeasure as unconventional intersections which are successfully in operation in U.S.. The main feature of unconventional intersections is to reroute turning movement on an approach to other approach, which consequently more green time is available for the progression of through traffic. Due to improved progression, this unique geometric design contributes to reduce delays with greenhouse gas emission and provides a viable alternative to interchanges. This study is to evaluate the potential operation and environment benefits of unconventional intersections. METHODS : This study used the VISSIM model with Synchro and EnViVer. Synchro is to optimize signal phases and EnViVer model to estimate the amount of greenhouse gas emissions by each condition. RESULTS : The result shows that unconventional intersections lead to increase the capacity and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, compared to existing intersections. CONCLUSIONS : Unconventional intersections have the ability to positively impact operations and environments as a low-cost and high-effectiveness countermeasure.

  • The fracture size among geometric parameters of the fracture system is treated as one of the most important factors in the geotechnical and hydrogeological analysis. However, several uncertainties in data acquisition and analysis pmcess about the fracture size are not clear yet. This study presents the current status on the estimation of the fracture size and verifies the estimating method using forward modeling approach. The factors considered are the variation of fracture intersection probabilities with different assumptions on the orientation of sampling planes and fracture size by using a simulated tleee dimensional fracture network model. If it is possible to analyze precisely the fracture intersection probabilities and the characteristics of probabilistic distnbution fiom cavern walls, outcrops or boreholes, the actual fracture size developed in rock rnass can be estimated confidently.

  • In this paper, we introduce the notion of ($\xi$, ${\zeta}$)-soft ${\Gamma}$-hyperideals and ($\xi$, ${\zeta}$)-soft interior ${\Gamma}$-hyperideals of ${\Gamma}$-semihypergroups by a new approach called soft intersection (briefly, S. I.). It is proved that in regular ${\Gamma}$-semihypergroups the ($\xi$, ${\zeta}$)-soft ${\Gamma}$-hyperideals and the ($\xi$, ${\zeta}$)-soft interior ${\Gamma}$-hyperideals coincide. Further, we introduce the concept of ($\xi$, ${\zeta}$)-soft simple ${\Gamma}$-semihypergroup and characterize the simple ${\Gamma}$-semihypergroups in terms of ($\xi$, ${\zeta}$)-soft ${\Gamma}$-hyperideals and ($\xi$, ${\zeta}$)-soft interior ${\Gamma}$-hyperideals.

  • A new approach based on cone prism intersection method combined with sorting algorithm is proposed for the fast and robust signed distance field computation. In the method, the space bounding the geometric model composed of triangular net is divided into multiple smaller cells. For the efficient calculation of distance fields, valid points among the triangular net which will generate minimum distances with current cell are selected by checking the intersection between current cell and cone prism generated at each point. The method is simple to implement and able to achieve an order of magnitude improvement in the computation time as compared to earlier approaches. Further the method is robust in handling the traditional sign problems. The validity of the suggested method was demonstrated by providing numerous examples including Boolean operation, shape deformation and morphing of complex geometric models.

  • This research is situated at the intersection between industry 4.0, circular economy and tourism, in an attempt to observe the fourth industrial revolution at the service of the application of circular economy principles in the tourism industry. This approach has gained importance due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has accelerated fundamental dynamics of change linked to business digitization and environmental sustainability. Within the theoretical framework delimited by the aforementioned intersection, the 'goCircular Radar' project, launched by 'TheCircularLab', from Ecoembes (Spain), has been taken as an empirical reference. Among the 165 startups in the circular economy sector, special attention has been paid to those that are oriented, or have a potential application, to tourism. The activities they carry out are described, with particular attention to the technologies they use and their contribution to circularity.

  • With the improvement of the accuracy of EDM and theodolite, three-dimensional geodetic coordinates can be determinated by means of analytical Intersection & Resection using vector approach. In this paper the accuracy of Resection, Intersection and Multilateration, by which the geodetic coordinates of a unknown point are determinated using the geodetic coordinates, horizontal angles, vertical angles, and slope distances to a known point are analyzed. As a result, it is found that the solution of multilateration method converges into an allowable limit and the method is better than other two methods in accuracy. And it is found that if the known points are over five points, the solution of Resection and Intersection method can also converge into an allowable limit.

  • The resistance-demand approach has emerged as an effective approach for determining the shear capacity of reinforced concrete beams. This approach is based on the fact that both the shear resistance and shear demand are correlated with flexural tensile strain from compatibility and equilibrium requirements. The basic shear strength, under a given loading is determined from the intersection of the demand and resistance curves. This paper verifies the applicability of resistance-demand procedure for predicting the shear capacity of high strength concrete beams without web reinforcement. A total of 18 beams were constructed and tested in four-point bending up to failure. The test variables included the longitudinal reinforcement ratio, the shear span to depth ratio, and the beam depth. The shear capacity of the beams was predicted using the proposed procedure and compared with the experimental values. The results of the comparison showed good prediction capability and can be useful to design practice.
