  • In this paper, new additional nonconforming modes for the improvement of bending behavior in the distorted 8 node hexahedral element and their effective modification method are studied. The rotational degrees of freedom are introduced by using a functional in which the rotations are independent variables. In an element formulation, the same interpolations are used in displacement and rotation fields, but nonconforming modes we applied only in displacement fields. To verify the developed element various numerical tests are carried out and test results show good behavior.

  • A continuous solution of the Dirichlet boundary value problem for the heat equation $u_t$$a2u_{xx}$ using a fuzzy system is described. We first apply the Crank-Nicolson method to obtain a discrete solution at the grid points for the heat equation. Then we find a continuous function to represent approximately the discrete values at the grid points in the form of a bicubic spline function (equation omitted) that can in turn be represented exactly by a fuzzy system. We show that the computed values at non-grid points using the bicubic spline function is much smaller than the ones obtained by linear interpolations of the values at the grid points. We also show that the fuzzy rule table in the fuzzy system representation of the bicubic spline function can be viewed as a gray scale image. Hence, the fuzzy rules provide a visual representation of the functions of two variables where the contours of different levels for the function are shown in different gray scale levels

  • A new method of formulation of a class of elements that are immune to mesh distortion effects is proposed here. The simple three-noded bar element with an offset of the internal node from the element center is employed here to demonstrate the method and the principles on which it is founded upon. Using the function space approach, the modified formulation is shown here to be superior to the conventional isoparametric version of the element since it satisfies the completeness requirement as the metric formulation, and yet it is in agreement with the best-fit paradigm in both the metric and the parametric domains. Furthermore, the element error is limited to only those that are permissible by the classical projection theorem of strains and stresses. Unlike its conventional counterpart, the modified element is thus not prone to any errors from mesh distortion. The element formulation is symmetric and thus satisfies the requirement of the conservative nature of problems associated with all self-adjoint differential operators. The present paper indicates that a proper mapping set for distortion immune elements constitutes geometric and displacement interpolations through parametric and metric shape functions respectively, with the metric components in the displacement/strain replaced by the equivalent geometric interpolation in parametric co-ordinates.

  • 3D linear and circular interpolations are a basic part for the machining of complex shapes. Until now, because of the absence of appropriate algorithms for the generation of 3D lines and circles, a full accomplishment for available machine tool resolution is difficult. this paper presents new algorithms for 3D linear and circular interpolation in the reference pulse technique. In 3D space, the line or circle is not expressed as an implicit function, it is only defined as the intersection of two surfaces. A 3D line is defined as the intersection of two planes, and a 3D circle is defined as the intersection of a plane and the surface of a sphere. Based on these concepts, interpolation algorithms are designed to follow intersection curves in 3D space, and a real-time 3D linear and circular interpolator was developed in software using a PC. The algorithm implemented in a PC showed promising results in interpolation error and speed performance. It is expected that it can be applied to the next generation computerized numerical control systems for the machining of 3D lines, circles and some other complex shapes.

  • The purposes of this paper is to propose new techniques to reconstruct measured optical images by using the template matching and B-Spline interpolation method based on image processing technology. To do this, we detect the matching template and non-matching template from each optical image. And then, we match the overlaped images from base level by correcting roll, pitch, and yaw error of images. At last, the matching image is interpolated by B-Spline interpolation. Finally, we show the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method through some experiments.

  • A low cost personal computer and image processing S/W were empolyed to derive Digtal Elevation Model(DEM) of tidal flat from multitemporal LANDSAT TM images, and to create three-dimensional(3D) perspective views of the tidel flat on Komso bay in west coasts of Korea. The method for generation of Digital Elevation Model(DEM) in tidal flat was considered by overlapping techniques of multitemporal LANDSAT TM images and interpolations. The boundary maps of tidal flat extracted from multitemporal images with different water high were digitally combined in x, y, z space with tide in formation and used as an inputcontour data to obtain an elevation model by interpolation using spline function. Elevation errors of less than $\pm$0.1m were achived using overlapping techniques and a spline interpolation approach, respectively. The derived DEM allows for the generation of a perspective grid and drape on the satellite image values to create a realistic terrain visualization model so that the tidal flat may be viewed from and desired direction. As the result of this study, we obtained elevation model of tidal flats which contribute to characterize of topography and monitoring of morphological evolution of tidal flats. Moreover, the modal generated here can be used for simulation of innudation according to tide and support other studies as a supplementary data set.

  • Recently, the use of security surveillance system including CCTV is increasing due to the increase of terrors and crimes. At the same time, interest of face recognition at a distance using surveillance cameras has been increasing. Accordingly, we analyzed the performance of face recognition according to distance using PCA-based face recognition and interpolation. In this paper, we used Nearest, Bilinear, Bicubic, Lanczos3 interpolations to interpolate face image. As a result, we confirmed that existing interpolation have an few effect on performance of PCA-based face recognition and performance of PCA-based face recognition is improved by including face image according to distance in traning data.

  • In this paper, we propose and discuss about image enhancement techniques for MPEG-4. which represents very low bit-rate, content-based. and object-based hierarchical audio-visual coding standard. The proposed enhancement technique removes undesired artifacts arising in the compression procedure and increase resolution in both spatial and temporal domains. In order to remove undesired artifacts. we divide the MPEG-4 video algorithm in two parts: MPEG-2 like part and the new part. For removing artifacts caused by the first part. we adopt the conventional blocking artifacts algorithm developed for MPEG-2. On the other hand for removing artifacts caused by the second part. we provide a new degradation model. and propose the corresponding image restoration method. For increasing resolution of the MPEG-4 images, we propose a general framework of multichannel image interpolation process. which includes both spatial and temporal interpolations. As the MPEG-4 standard is under development. various sophisticated techniques are considered. but research on image enhancement techniques is relatively underestimated. By this reason. additional image enhancement techniques will become very important issue in realization phase of MPEG-4.

  • Digital image forgery is becoming a topic of great interest with regard to honesty in imaging. We can often see forged digital images in a variety of places, such as the internet, and magazines, and in images used in political ads, etc. These can reduce the reliability and factual basis of the information contained in image. Therefore, objectivity is needed to determine if the image is forged so as to prevent confusion in the viewing public. Most digital forgeries consist of image resizing, rotating including the following interpolations. To find evidence of interpolation in forged images, this paper proposes a new method for detecting digital image forgery using general interpolation factors analyzed through re-interpolation algorithm of the forged images in order to determine the differences in the patterns. Through the re-interpolation algorithm we could detect the forged region and filtering region used image retouching included to interpolation.

  • Power-aware design is one of the most important areas to be emphasized in multimedia mobile systems, in which data transfers dominate the power consumption. In this paper, we propose a new architecture for motion compensation (MC) of H.264/AVC with power reduction by decreasing the data transfers. For this purpose, a reconfigurable microarchitecture based on data type is proposed for interpolation and it is mapped onto the dedicated motion compensation IP (intellectual property) effectively without sacrificing the performance or the system latency. The original quarter-pel interpolation equation that consists of one or two half-pel interpolations and one averaging operation is designed to have different execution control modes, which result in decreasing memory accesses greatly and maintaining the system efficiency. The simulation result shows that the proposed method could reduce up to 87% of power consumption caused by data transfers over the conventional method in MC module.
