An Approach for Applying Network-based Moving Target Defense into Internet of Things Networks

  • In this paper, we propose an approach to apply network-based moving target defense into Internet of Things (IoT) networks. The IoT is a technology that provides the high interconnectivity of things like electronic devices. However, cyber security risks are expected to increase as the interconnectivity of such devices increases. One recent study demonstrated a man-in-the-middle attack in the statically configured IoT network. In recent years, a new approach to cyber security, called the moving target defense, has emerged as a potential solution to the challenge of static systems. The approach continuously changes system's attack surface to prevent attacks. After analyzing IPv4 / IPv6-based moving target defense schemes and IoT network-related technologies, we present our approach in terms of addressing systems, address mutation techniques, communication models, network configuration, and node mobility. In addition, we summarize the direction of future research in relation to the proposed approach.

A Study on the Mobile Application Security Threats and Vulnerability Analysis Cases

  • Security threats are increasing with interest due to the mass spread of smart devices, and vulnerabilities in developed applications are being exposed while mobile malicious codes are spreading. The government and companies provide various applications for the public, and for reliability and security of applications, security checks are required during application development. In this paper, among the security threats that can occur in the mobile service environment, we set up the vulnerability analysis items to respond to security threats when developing Android-based applications. Based on the set analysis items, vulnerability analysis was performed by examining three applications of public institutions and private companies currently operating as mobile applications. As a result of application security checks used by three public institutions and companies, authority management and open module stability management were well managed. However, it was confirmed that many security vulnerabilities were found in input value verification, outside transmit data management, and data management. It is believed that it will contribute to improving the safety of mobile applications through the case of vulnerability analysis for Android application security.

  • In this paper, an contemplate the direction for Usable Security in IT security and User Experience. To evaluate how the user interface is convenient to use, we examine the components such as the property, learnable property, memory simplicity, faults and satisfaction level. By considering for the security, we should bring positive effects on the user experience. By emphasizing usability and security at the same time, we should increase the satisfaction level of the user experience and then produce the valuable experience through participation, use and observation. The positive user experience is the important task for the software engineering, business administration and others., and this will result satisfaction of the users, brand trust, and success in the market. On the other hand, for the negative user experience, the users cannot achieve their desired goal and therefore, are unsatisfied due to emotional, rational and economic inconvenience. Due to this, we should try to maintain a certain level of usability and security of the system in IT security and User Experience.

검색엔진을 이용한 취약점 분석 시스템 개발 (Development of Vulnerability Scanner using Search Engine)

  • 컴퓨터 사용이 보편화되고 언제 어디서나 인터넷 연결이 가능하게 되어 보안에 대한 위협은 급속히 증가하고 있다. 우리는 사용자가 쉽게 보안 취약점을 점검할 수 있는 보안 스캐너를 개발하였다. 기존의 보안 스캐너는 새로운 취약점이 알려지면 보안 서버에 그 내용을 갱신하고 나서 고객 서버를 점검하는 체제인데 반해, 우리 시스템은 검색엔진을 이용하여 취약점들을 자동으로 모아서 보안 서버에 색인해 두고, 사이트 관리자가 별도의 갱신 없이 보안서버를 이용하여 사이트의 보안 취약점을 점검할 수 있게 해준다.

Why Dynamic Security for the Internet of Things?

  • The Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem potentially includes heterogeneous devices with different processing mechanisms as well as very complicated network and communication models. Thus, analysis of data associated with adverse conditions is much more complicated. Moreover, mobile things in the IoT lead to dynamic alteration of environments and developments of a dynamic and ultra-large-scale (ULS) environment. Also, IoT and the services provided by that are mostly based on devices with limited resources or things that may not be capable of hosting conventional controls. Finally, the dynamic and heterogeneous and ULS environment of the IoT will lead to the emergence of new security requirements. The conventional preventive and diagnostic security controls cannot sufficiently protect it against increasing complication of threats. The counteractions provided by these methods are mostly dependent on insufficient static data that cannot sufficiently protect systems against sophisticated and dynamically evolved attacks. Accordingly, this paper investigates the current security approaches employed in the IoT architectures. Moreover, we define the dynamic security based on dynamic event analysis, dynamic engineering of new security requirements, context awareness and adaptability, clarify the need for employment of new security mechanism, and delineate further works that need to be conducted to achieve a secure IoT.

효과적인 음성스팸 역공격 시스템 (An Effective Counterattack System for the Voice Spam)

  • 보이스피싱 범죄 접근 단계에서 미끼로 활용되는 광고 문자 및 음성에 이용되는 전화번호가 대량 불법대출 스팸 발송에 이용되고 있어 이를 신속하게 차단하는 것이 필요하다. 이에, 본 고에서는 불법대출 스팸 및 보이스피싱을 자행하는 음성스팸 전화번호에 대해서 신속한 이용제한을 함과 동시에 해당 전화번호로 전화 통화 연결이 원활하지 않게 지속적인 콜을 보냄으로서 해당 전화번호를 이용하여 불법을 자행하지 못하게 하는 음성스팸 역공격 시스템을 제안한다. 제안하는 시스템은 불법스팸신고처리기관과 수사기관간 대표적인 협업 모델로서 각각 역할을 정립하여 본 시스템을 개발한 후 실제 적용해 본 결과, 불법대출 음성스팸과 문자스팸 신고건수가 각각 1/3 수준으로 감소하는 것을 확인하여 본 시스템의 효과성을 입증할 수 있었다

  • 최근 사물인터넷 관련 기술이 급속도로 발전하고 있고 이에 따라 모바일 환경 중심의 홈 네트워크 시스템과 관련된 연구들이 활발하게 진행되고 있다. IETF(Internet Engineering Task Force)에서는 저전력, 저용량, 저성능 등 제한된 환경에서 인터넷과 연동하여 사물들을 동작시키기 위한 대표적인 기술로 CoAP/6LoWPAN 프로토콜을 제안하고 있다. 그러나 기존에 구현된 홈 네트워크 시스템은 보안 기능이 거의 구현되어 있지 않은 실정이다. IETF에서는 IoT환경에 적합한 UDP 기반의 보안 프로토콜로 DTLS(Datagram Transport Layer Security)을 권고하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 DTLS 보안기술을 적용하여 모바일 환경에서 CoAP/6LoWPAN 기반의 홈 네트워크 시스템을 동작시키고 제어하는 시스템을 구현하였다. 또한 본 시스템을 활용하여 DTLS 동작 절차에 따른 데이터 전송 시간을 측정하였으며 향후 보안 프로토콜의 성능 개선의 필요성을 제안한다.

  • This study aims to suggest an implementation methodology of security module for data integrity of mobile internet terminal. This is based on the WTLS(Wileless Transport Layer Security) of WAP Protocol. This security module is expected to achieve central role in conversion of wireless internet environment and emphasis of encryption technology and safe and calculable wireless communication environment construction.

A Study of WiMAX Security threats and Their Solution

  • In this study, we have discussed and illustrated the security issues of WiMAX technology including vulnerabilities, threats and some security solution. Both physical layer and data link layer have been considered. Jamming is a major threat in physical layer, and in data link layer we study an authentication problem and see the problem of some unencrypted messages leading to lack of confidentiality. Some of these vulnerabilities have been solved in the recent amendment of 802.16 and some still remain. Moreover WiMax is a new technology yet.

  • In the paper, we propose a novel adaptively secure hierarchical identity-based signature scheme from lattices. The size of signatures in our scheme is shortest among the existing hierarchical identity-based signature schemes from lattices. Our scheme is motivated by Gentry et al.'s signature scheme and Agrawal et al.'s hierarchical identity-based encryption scheme.
