  • The purpose of this study is to investigate pre-service elementary teachers' awareness on the sources of microplastics. The participants were 75 male and 91 female undergraduates. A 15-item survey questionnaire was developed based on prior researches regarding microplastics emission sources and were modified through expert review and preliminary research. The survey results show that over 80% of the respondents had heard of microplastics before through news, internet, TV, etc. However, they tended not to be aware that things such as lab coats, wet tissue, dust protective mask, or paper cup were made of microplastics-causing substances. For the questions on the expected situation of microplastics contamination, the frequency of their choices were relatively low in 'Tires of cars running are worn out' and 'The gum stuck to the floor becomes smaller.' These results show that many of them were not aware that synthetic fiber or synthetic rubber was one of the microplastics emission sources. Gender differences were found in the attitudes toward microplastics problems. Female students are more interested in the issues and are more willing to participate in the solution, and recognize the need for more education on microplastics. The implications and future directions for science education were discussed.

  • Not only services that are provided by a single system have been various with the development of the Internet of Things and autonomous software but also new services that are not possible before are provided through collaboration between systems. The collaboration between autonomous systems is similar to the ecosystem configuration in terms of biological viewpoints. Thus, it is called the IT Ecosystem, and this concept has arisen newly in recent years. The IT Ecosystem refers to a concept that achieves a mission of each of a number of heterogeneous systems rather than a single system utilizing their own autonomy as well as achieving the objectives of the overall system simultaneously in order to meet a single common goal. In our previous study, we proposed architecture of elementary level and as well as basic several meta-models to implement the IT Ecosystem. This paper proposes comprehensive reference architecture framework to implement the IT Ecosystem by cleansing the previous study. Among them, a utility function based on cost-benefit model is proposed to solve the dynamic re-configuration problem of system components. Furthermore, a measure of using genetic algorithm is proposed as a solution to reduce the dynamic re-configuration overhead that is increased exponentially according to the expansion of the number of entities of components in the IT Ecosystem. Finally, the utilization of the proposed orchestration framework is verified quantitatively through probable case studies on IT Ecosystem for unmanned forestry management.

  • The V-world, Spatial information open platform map service, provides various national spatial data. Recently, with the development of IT technology, demand for 3D geospatial data that can be merged with new industries such as Internet of Things(IoT) and autonomous vehicles is increasing. Because 3D geospatial data is large and complex, many computer resources are used to provide map services. Most of the 3D map services, such as Vworld, are constructed binary data in consideration of performance. However, this type of data is incompatible because it is difficult to use in other services if there is no precise understanding of the specification. In this paper, we propose a data serialization method to improve the compatibility of new Vworld 3D format which is constructed in binary form. The performance of binary data and serialized binary data is tested and compared. As a result, it is expected that the data using the serialization technique will be similar to the binary data and contribute to improve compatibility.

  • This study examined the process, difficulties and understanding of making teaching materials by investigating the pre-service early childhood teachers' experience of making such materials. The results of the study would help in the design direction and methods of education for pre-service teachers in how to make materials. A total of 30 university students, who took the course of 'Early Childhood Educational Materials and Research Method' in B university, participated in the study. At the exploration stage, the pre-service teachers utilized the teacher guidance of Nuri curriculum, major books, internet materials, and their observation experiences in kindergartens. At the planning stage, they considered chiefly the children's interest and level, explored materials sufficiently, and selected the production method carefully. At the production stage, they performed basic hard work to prevent rework and tended to stick to the basics beyond their initial ambition as the work progressed. The difficulties that they faced, feeling pressured, were making materials based on their imagination without experiencing much from the infants, feeling embarrassed when things did not progress as planned, and feeling a sense of loss when comparing with other friends. Through these difficulties, the importance of precise planning, executing the process thoroughly, and repeatedly checking and reviewing the entire process of making textbooks and materials were realized. In addition, there is a need to search for a better development direction for the effective development of teaching textbooks and materials.

  • Today's digital culture has been realized through various media, and even now, is changing and growing. If the previous digital culture was actualized through technologies such as the Internet, mobile devices etc., today it includes even things that give new life to contents using various medialike this. The moment this digital technical aspect is grafted into culture, a new genre called 'Cultural Contents' is born. Such cultural contents can be seen as a way for classics to approach people in a digital world that is evolving fast like today. To make classics into a cultural content, its basic narrative structure is important. Classics contain the history at the time, the awareness of people who lived at the time and the detailed rite of passage people experienced. This point can be interpreted as classics not just a cultural heritage of the previous era, but having the functionality that can form a consensus of modern people. This thesis views our classic novels of Mongcha group such as 'Guwunmong' and 'Okrubong' as a potential subject of cultural contents, and the problem of how it can be made into a cultural content. To make a cultural content, storytelling is very important. Therefore, the structure and characteristics of novels of Mongcha group was examined, and a synopsis was made based on this. Furthermore, it examined if there are novels of Mongcha group made into contents, and how each work was vitalized and how much ripple effect it had achieved. If each work did not achieve a second or third ripple effect, it examined what the problem was and tried to offer a solution.

  • In recent years, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have achieved outstanding performance in the fields of computer vision such as image classification, object detection, visual quality enhancement, etc. However, as huge amount of computation and memory are required in CNN models, there is a limitation in the application of CNN to low-power environments such as mobile or IoT devices. Therefore, the need for neural network compression to reduce the model size while keeping the task performance as much as possible has been emerging. In this paper, we propose a method to compress CNN models by combining matrix decomposition methods of LR (Low-Rank) approximation and CP (Canonical Polyadic) decomposition. Unlike conventional methods that apply one matrix decomposition method to CNN models, we selectively apply two decomposition methods depending on the layer types of CNN to enhance the compression performance. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, we use the models for image classification such as VGG-16, RestNet50 and MobileNetV2 models. The experimental results show that the proposed method gives improved classification performance at the same range of 1.5 to 12.1 times compression ratio than the existing method that applies only the LR approximation.
