  • This study examined internet game addiction and college adaptation(academic, social, personal-emotional, institutional attachment) by Internet game motivation types. The 475 subjects (235 male and 240 female college students) responded to the newly developed self-report measure, Internet Game Motivation Scale (IGMS). Cluster analyses of IGMS data identified 5 types of Internet game motivation: Active I, Active II, Moderate I, Moderate II, Passive. Active (I, II) types had the highest scores in Internet game addiction while the Passive type yielded the lowest. Except for academic adaptation, all aspects of college adaptation varied as a function of Internet game motivation types. Overall, Moderate II showed highest whereas Active I showed lowest academic adaptation scores.

  • With the prosperity of Internet, the game industry is occuping an important position in the national economic system. The study on the game industry which has been drawing eyes from researchers is of great significance. Many scholars have done researches on game motivations, but the elements of intrinsic motivation are still in the exploratory stage. This study determines the dimensions of the influencing factors of players 'intrinsic game motivation and their game experience by adopting the method of literature research. A theoretical model is established to explore the influence of intrinsic game motivation on players' game experience. Questionnaires from players of "The Honor of Kings" are collected through the Internet. SPSS 21.0 is utilized to test the model and hypotheses, and finally the results of the data are analysed. It verifies that intrinsic motivation mainly consists of four components: achievement, social interaction, immersion and escapism. By exploring the influence of the four elements on players' experience, it is concluded that the players' immersion and social interaction have a greater positive impact on their game experience. It is indicated that a better game design highlights the storyline of the game and the interaction system is of importance to enable players to gain a better game experience.

  • Purpose: This study is a descriptive correlation study to identify how factors such as motivation to learn, school adaptation, self-control, and self-esteem influence the degree of Internet game addiction and to provide basic data for nursing interventions for male middle school students. Methods: The subjects of this study were 418 male students in lst, 2nd and 3rd grade at three middle schools located in Ulsan. Data were collected from May 1, 2011 to May 31, 2011 and analyzed through descriptive statistical methods, such as the t-test, ANOVA, Sheffe's test, Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis, via SPSS 18.0 program. The study's structured questionnaire was composed of 25 items of 'the Motivation to Learn Scale', 41 items of 'the School Adaptation Scale', 20 items of 'the Self-Control Scale', 10 items of 'the Self-esteem Scale', and 20 items of 'the Internet Game Addiction Scale'. Results: 163 students (39.0%) belonged to the non-addiction group while 255 students (61.0%) fell into the addiction risk group. The addiction risk group showed a higher degree of addiction than ones in the non-addiction group. The addiction risk group's average scores for motivation to learn, school adaptation, self-control, and self-esteem were lower than those of the non-addiction group. The statistically significant factors (p<.05) that increase the chance of addiction were grade, family atmosphere, self-control, trading of online game items, and the amount of time playing online games. Conclusion: On the basis of the findings of this study, it is suggested that; qualitative research on the routes of addiction be conducted to find out ways to prevent and nurse addicted students; considering the fact that the average age of Internet users is getting lower and lower, a study targeting primary school students be implemented; since the influences of the variables covered in this study turned out to be relatively low, other factors, especially environmental factors, should also be investigated.

이를 위해 MOBA(Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) 장르를 이용하는 청소년 196명의 데이터를 활용하여 회귀분석을 실시하였다.

  • While the Internet continues to integrate with modern lives, the risks of negative outcomes resulting from problematic use (PU) are also increasing. Although psychological well-being and use motivations have been shown to play major roles in Internet PU, understanding the moderating mechanism is critical for advanced knowledge. The present study employed survey data from users of a live video-game streaming service (LVGS) that is an area rarely been studied. Result concluded a positive moderating effect of escapism motive (EM) on the association between loneliness and the PU of LVGS, while the moderating mechanism between EM and stress was not indicated. A moderating effect of information seeking (IS) on the relationship between stress and the PU of LVGS was found negative, but no mechanism between IS and loneliness was indicated. This study highlights how the interplay of different motivation and pathologies may induce or prevent video-game-related addiction.

  • This study examined different individual and environmental factors that affect children's game addiction tendency. As individual variables, game user' motivation, self-control, and self-esteem were included in the analysis. As family variables, communications with mothers, parental control of children's computer use and parental internet use were examined, as school variables, school adjustment and teacher's supervision of children's computer use, and as peer variables, peer group's attitude toward computer games were used. The sample consisted of 994 fifth and sixth grade children. Statistics and methods used for the data analysis were Cronbach's alpha, frequency, percentage, two way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation and Hierarchical Regression. Several major results were found from the analysis. First, boys were addicted more than girls. No difference was found in the addiction tendency between the 5th graders and the 6th graders. Second, game users' motivation, that is, their interest-amusement motive, avoidance motive and aggressive motive, had a positive correlation with their game addiction tendency. However, self-control and self-esteem had a negative correlation with children's game addiction tendency. Third, problematic communications with mothers and parental control of children's computer use had a positive correlation with children's game addiction tendency. Open communications with mothers had a negative correlation with children's game addiction tendency. Fourth, school adjusaent had a negative correlation with children's game addiction tendency. And peer group's attitude towards computer games had a positive correlation with children's game addiction tendency. Fifth, low self-control, peer group's attitude towards computer games, children's interest-amusement motive, avoidance motive, aggressive motive, school lesson adjustment, parental control of children's computer use and school nile adjustment were important predicting variables of boy's game addiction tendency.
