The flight vehicles have cavities such as wheel wells and bomb bays. The flow around a cavity is characterized as unsteady flow because of the formation and dissipation of vortices due to the interaction between the freestream shear layer and cavity internal flow, the generation of shock and expansion waves. Resonance phenomena can damage the structures around the cavity and negatively affect aerodynamic performance and stability. The flow field is observed to oscillate in the "shear layer mode" with low aspect ratio. In the present study, numerical analysis was performed for cavity flows by the unsteady compressible three dimensional Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations with Wilcox's ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model. The flow field is observed to oscillate in the "shear layer mode" with large aspect ratio. Based on the SPL(Sound Pressure Level) analysis of the pressure variation at the cavity trailing edge, the dominant frequency was analyzed and compared with the results of Rossiter's formul. The aero-acoustic wave analyzed with CPD(Correlation of Pressure Distribution).
This paper presents the pulsation of carburetor inlet and outlet pressure of a small SI gasoline engine. The engine used in this paper is a 23cc, single cylinder, diaphragm carburetor, two-stroke, air-cooled for brush cutter. The rpm and pressure wave pulsation at the inlet and the outlet of carburetor were measured and analysed for the understand of the internal air flow into the barrel on the diaphragm carburetor. These data should be used for the development of the duel fuel injection system for gasoline and LPG. The results showed that the carburetor inlet pressure variations were very steady, but the pressure variations at carburetor outlet were very sensitive to the pressure variation into the crank case and were to similar independently to the engine speed on partial opened throttle conditions. According to increasing engine speed, the pressure waves started to come out and be developed after closing the intake port of the engine at carburetor outlet. Reverse flow occurred on the WOT (wide open throttle) condition.

The formation of a severe snow storm occurred in the mountainous coastal region near Mt. Taegualyang and Kangnung city in the eastern part of Korea was investigate from 0900LST, December 7 through 9, 2002, using MM5 model. As synoptic scale easterly wind induced a great amount of moisture from the East Sea into the inland coastal region and sea-breeze further induced more moisture from the basin toward the top of the mountain side. The lifted moisture toward the mountain top was cooled down along the eastern slope of the mountain and near the mid of the mountain the moisture was much cooled down with relative humidity of 100% under the air temperature below $O^{\circ}C$, resulting in the formation of snow. Relative humidity of 100% generally occurred at the 5km away from the coast toward the inland mountain and the band of 100% RH was parallel to the coastal line. The 100% band coincided with minimum air temperature band and line.
An attempt has been made here to study the propagation of SH-type surface waves in an elastic medium, which is initially stressed and heterogeneous and has a point source inside the medium. The upper portion of the composite medium is a sandy layer. It is situated on an initially stressed heterogeneous half-space, whose density, rigidity and internal friction are function of depth. The analysis has been carried out by using Fourier transform and Green's function approach. The phase velocity has been investigated for several particular situations. It has been shown that the results of the study agree with those the case of Love wave propagation in a homogeneous medium in the absence of the sandy layer, when the initial stress is absent. In order to illustrate the validity of the analysis presented here, the derived analytical expression has been computed numerically, by considering an illustrative example and the variances of the concerned physical variables have been presented graphically. It is observed that the velocity of shear wave is amply influenced by the initial stress and heterogeneity parameters and the presence of the sandy layer. The study has an important bearing on investigations of different problems in the earth's interior and also in seismological studies.
To measure temporal variability of long- range transmission in northern part of the East Sea of Korea, low frequency acoustic sources were deployed on the continental shelf 0.4km south of Cape Shultz near the port of Vladivostok during October 1999. The transmissions of the phase modulated signals were recorded by VLA moored on the northern slope of Ulleung-do. The measured signals were processed for the acoustic arrivals and their variability in time. The temporal signal processing involves pulse compression of the phase-encoded signal, time spread and temporal coherence processing. Variability of the ocean sound speed field in time scales of short period seems to be dominated by random fluctuations caused by sound speed perturbation due to the vertical displacements associated with internal waves.
We present a numerical model which enables to analyze $1.47mu$m amplification band characteristics for thulium doped fluoride fiber amplifiers. We focused on upconversion pumping scheme, thus many transitions affecting $1.47mu$m band amplification was considered simultaneously. Backward propagating waves and transverse mode were also considered in the model. The parameters for modeling were then acquired using published experimental data and related theories such as Judd-Ofelt theory for radiative transition, empirical energy gap law for non-radiative transition, and McCumber relations for cross-sections. The simulation showed well-matched results with experiment and internal dynamics. amics.
To give a solution for seismic stability of tunnel faces subjected to earthquake ground shakings, the pseudo-dynamic approach is originally introduced to analyze tunnel face stability in this study. In the light of the upper-bound theorem of limit analysis, an advanced three-dimensional mechanism combined with pseudo-dynamic approach is proposed. Based on this mechanism, the required support pressure on tunnel face can be obtained by equaling external work rates to the internal energy dissipation and implementing an optimization searching procedure related to time. Both time and space feature of seismic waves are properly accounted for in the proposed mechanism. For this reason, the proposed mechanism can better represent the actual influence of seismic motion and has a remarkable advantage in evaluating the effects of vertical seismic acceleration, soil amplification factor, seismic wave period and initial phase difference on tunnel face stability. Furthermore, the pseudo-dynamic approach is compared with the pseudo-static approach. The difference between them is illustrated from a new but understandable perspective. The comparison demonstrates that the pseudo-static approach is a conservative method but still could provide precise enough results as the pseudo-dynamic approach if the value of seismic wavelengths is large or the height of soil structures is small.

This paper presents a three-dimensional (3D) integrated numerical model where the wave-induced pore pressures in a porous seabed around breakwater heads were investigated. Unlike previous research, the Navier-Stokes equation is solved with internal wave generation for the flow model, while Biot's dynamic seabed behaviour is considered in the seabed model. With the present model, a parametric study was conducted to examine the effects of wave and soil characteristics and breakwater configuration on the wave-induced pore pressure around breakwater heads. Based on numerical examples, it was found that the wave-induced pore pressures at breakwater heads are greater than that beneath a breakwater. The wave-induced seabed response around breakwater heads become more important with: (i) a longer wave period; (ii) a seabed with higher permeability and degree of saturation; and (iii) larger angle between the incident waves and breakwater. Furthermore, the relative difference of wave-induced pore pressure between fully-dynamic and quasi-static solutions are larger at breakwater heads than that beneath a breakwater.

This article aims to illustrate the damped dynamic responses of layered functionally graded (FG) thick 2D beam under dynamic pulse sinusoidal load by using finite element method, for the first time. To investigate the response of thick beam accurately, two-dimensional plane stress problem is assumed to describe the constitutive behavior of thick beam structure. The material is distributed gradually through the thickness of each layer by generalized power law function. The Kelvin-Voigt viscoelastic constitutive model is exploited to include the material internal damping effect. The governing equations are obtained by using Lagrange's equations and solved by using finite element method with twelve -node 2D plane element. The dynamic equation of motion is solved numerically by Newmark implicit time integration procedure. Numerical studies are presented to illustrate stacking sequence and material gradation index on the displacement-time response of cantilever beam structure. It is found that, the number of waves increases by increasing the graduation distribution parameter. The presented mathematical model is useful in analysis and design of nuclear, marine, vehicle and aerospace structures those manufactured from functionally graded materials (FGM).

Excessive yaw motion of a turret moored vessel was examined in this paper. The vessel was moored by an internal turret and catenary mooring lines. The experiments were conducted in regular waves. Turret moored vessel can oscillate from side to side or move to one particular direction, and eventually exhibit large yaw motion. The results showed that the excessive yaw occured for specific condition, ratio of wave lengths and vessel length. It was found that turret moored floating vessel was unstable for regular wave period from 14 to 18 sec and excessive yaw occurred to maximum 50 deg. The time series, trajectory, phase plot and qualitative analysis are performed. The analysis showed that the results of experiments agreed with the that of analytic method and the excessive yaw could be predicted by the stability analysis.
