Objectives : For the screening of neuroprotective effects of medicinal herbs, the complex system of animal models suffer some disadvantages in controlling critical parameters such as blood pressure and body temperature. Additionally, application of drugs to the appropriate brain area sometimes is difficult, due to poor permeability though the blood brain barrier, and so potential protective effects might be masked. Methods : Organotypic hippocampal slice culture (OHSC) method has the advantages of being relatively easy to prepare and of maintaining the general structure, including tissue integrity and the connections between cells. Drugs can easily be applied and neuronal damage can easily be quantified by using tissues and culture media. This study demonstrates neuroprotective effects of Puerariae radix (葛根, PR), Salviae miltiorrhizae radix (丹蔘, SR), Rhei rhizoma (大黃, RR), and Bupleuri radix (柴胡, BR). These were screenedand compared to MK-801, antagonist of NMDA receptors, by using OHSC of 1 week-old Sprague-Dawley rats. Oxygen/glucose deprivation (OGD) were conducted in an anaerobic chamber $(85%\;N_2,\;10%\;CO_2\;and\;5%\;H_2)$ in a deoxygenated glucose-free medium for 60 minutes. Water extracts of each herbs were treated to culture media with $5\;{\mu}g/ml$ for 48 hours. Results : Neuronal cell death in the cultures was monitored by densitometric measurements of the cellular uptake of propidium iodide (PI). PI fluorescence images were obtained at 48 hours after the OGD and medicinal herb treatment. Also TUNEL-positive cells in the CAI and DG regions and LDH concentrations in culture media were measured at 48 hours after the OGD. According to measured data, MK-801, PR, SR and BR demonstrated significant neuroprotective effect against excessive neuronal cell death and apoptosis induced by the OGD insult. Especially, PR revealed similar neuroprotective effect to MK-801 and RR demonstrated weak neuroprotective effect. Conclusions : These results suggest that OHSC can be a suitable method for screening of neuroprotective effects of medicinal herbs. The closed water bodies, such as reservoirs and lakes, could be contaminated by an inflow of pollutants in the upstream as well as a stratification caused by seasonal natural phenomena. The vertical circulation particularly plays an important role in reduction of environmental pollutants. The factors of the vertical circulation are the temperature, wind, thermal diffusivity and sunlight. The wind is probably the most significant factor among them. Thus, it is necessary to describe the validation and application of a three-dimensional numerical model of wind-induced circulation in a thermally stratified flow. In this paper, a three-dimensional numerical model for the thermally stratified flows is presented. The model is conducted in three steps to calculate the velocity components from the momentum equations in x- and y- axis directions, the elevations from the free surface equation and the temperature from the scalar transport equation. Numerical predictions are compared with available analytical solutions for the sloshing free surface movement in a rectangular basin. The numerical results generally show a reasonable agreement with analytical solutions. And the model is applied to the circulation for the wind induced flow in a thermally stratification. Consequently, the developed model is validated by two verifications and phenomena of the internal flow.
To improve dispersibility of cereal powder without additives, granulation of cereal powder was conducted using fluidized-bed granulator. Operation condition was sample 300 g, internal temperature $40^{\circ}C$, ventilation speed $30-90m^3/h$, inlet temperature $90^{\circ}C$ and spray pressure 2.5 bar. The amount of distilled water (20-45%) as binder, granulation time (10-15 min) and drying time (3-10 min) were controlled. Mean diameter over volume (Brouckere mean, $D_{4,3}$) was increased from $123{\mu}m$ to $263{\mu}m$ and dispersibility was improved from 73% to 92.25% at experiment conditions. Wettability (wetting time) was drastically decreased from 5,000 second to 7 second. Granulation of cereal powder did not affect sinkability and mean diameter over volume as wet analysis was about the same between raw and granulated cereals. Such phenomenon means that granulation with only water as binder enables cereal powder to disperse in water or milk without rapid sedimentation.
To evaluate the safety status of deteriorated segments in a submarine shield tunnel during its service life, a seepage model was established based on a cross-sea shield tunnel project. This model was used to study the migration patterns of erosive ions within the shield segments. Based on these laws, the degree of deterioration of the segments was determined. Using the derived analytical solution, the internal forces within the segments were calculated. Lastly, by applying the formula for calculating safety factors, the variation trends in the safety factors of segments with different degrees of deterioration were obtained. The findings demonstrate that corrosive seawater presents the evolution characteristics of continuous seepage from the outside to the inside of the tunnel. The nearby seepage field shows locally concentrated characteristics when there is leakage at the joint, which causes the seepage field's depth and scope to significantly increase. The chlorine ion content decreases gradually with the increase of the distance from the outer surface of the tunnel. The penetration of erosion ions in the segment is facilitated by the presence of water pressure. The ion content of the entire ring segment lining structure is related in the following order: vault < haunch < springing. The difference in the segment's rate of increase in chlorine ion content decreases as service time increases. Based on the analytical solution calculation, the segment's safety factor drops more when the joint leaks than when its intact, and the change rate between the two states exhibits a general downward trend. The safety factor shows a similar change rule at different water depths and continuously decreases at the same segment position as the water depth increases. The three phases of "sudden drop-rise-stability" are represented by a "spoon-shaped" change rule on the safety factor's change curve. The issue of the poor applicability of indicators in earlier studies is resolved by the analytical solution, which only requires determining the loss degree of the segment lining's effective bearing thickness to calculate the safety factor of any cross-section of the shield tunnel. The analytical solution's computation results, however, have some safety margins and are cautious. The process of establishing the evaluation model indicates that the secondary lining made of molded concrete can also have its safety status assessed using the analytical solution. It is very important for the safe operation of the tunnel and the safety of people's property and has a wide range of applications.
This study was conducted to develop a large-scale rice polisher with double polishing stages for producing clean rice with high quality in rice processing complexs. The performance of the developed rice polisher was evaluated and improved. The results obtained from this study were as followings : 1. A large-scale rice polisher with double polishing stages was developed, which consisted of two polishing chambers(polishing part I and II), two spraying parts, a feeding part, power of 37kW, control panel, etc. Especially, the purpose of polishing part Iwere to uniformly mix white rice sprayed with water and to remove bran particles from the rice. the roller surface of the polishing part I was coated with chromium. 2. The capacity of the developed rice polisher was 4t/h. The broken rice rate of the polisher was less than 0.2%, compared with about 1% of others. 3. The whiteness increment of the developed polisher was 2.6~3.0% compared with about 2.3~2.5% of others. 4. The energy consumption of the developed polisher was 0.5kWh/100kg. 5. The developed polisher was improved with the angle change of screen slot of the polishing chamber I. The broken rice rate was reduced from about 0.5% to about 0.2% as the max. internal pressure of the polishing chamber II decreased by 0.4kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ due to the increase of resistance in the polishing chamber I. The whiteness of the polisher showed more than 38~39. 6. The developed rice polisher showed high performance, compared with other domestic and foreign polishers.

This paper describes thermal flow characteristic in various pipelines: straight pipeline and curved pipeline. In the Arctic and ocean area, pipelines are exposed to a extremely low temperature ($0{\sim}-40^{\circ}C$). In this situation, three-dimensional flow analysis should be analyzed to investigate thermal effects such as pressure drop, temperature change, velocity deficit and distribution change of liquid droplet of internal fluid. Also, due to freezing of water droplet, impingement erosion is expected in the curved pipeline. The stability of the pipelines can be influenced by impingement erosion. In this paper, multi-phase and multi-species analysis was introduced to analyze the flow characteristics and impingement erosion of Arctic and ocean pipelines.

With recent trend in domestic and global market requiring architectures' conversion into skyscrapers seasoned with the features of landmarks, structural problems in relation with explosive spatting during fire emergencies are arising as controversial issues. Accordingly, many productive researches have been made in relation to the reinforcement techniques for improving fire resistance and the number of applications in the field is gradually increasing. In this study, a ductile outline form using ECC (Engineered Cementations Composites) was made with improvements on the structure and fire resistance to examine its applicability. Also, currently in Japan, the number of studies and applications is increasing focusing on reduction of construction time and improvement of workability with application of Half-PCa method. However, using such method of construction, large structural members decrease the utilization of space and architecture-wise, there is a disadvantage of the weight increase. Therefore, in such context, it would be worth reducing the weight of the structural members by reducing the size using ECC. In addition, its excellent pseudo strain-hardening due to fiber may have great effects on seismic designs. In the mean time, this study planned 3 equal conditions for mix water, PVA fiber and additives excluding binder and refractory to evaluate the mechanical properties of resistance against pressure and internal force. Finally, an evaluation was executed on the fire resistance of the newly made ductile outline form. As a result, from ECC-I to ECC-III, all showed excellent mechanical properties due to pseudo strain-hardening and in the fire resistance test conducted with ISO 834 heating curve, most of them tended to be in the range of the reference temperature (538℃-180min), so there was no occurrence of any explosive spatting.
An integral computer code has been developed for a mechanical and thermal design and performance analysis of an oxide fuel rod in a pressurized water reactor. The code designated as FROD 1.0 takes into account the phenomena of radial power depression within the pellet, cracking, densification and swelling of the pellet, fission gas release, clad creep, pellet-clad contact, heat transfer to coolant and buildup of corrosion layers on the clad surface. The FROD 1.0 code yields two-dimensional temperature distributions, dimensional changes, stresses, and internal pressure of a fuel rod as a function of irradiation time within a reasonable computation time. The code may also be used for the analyses of oxide fuel rods in other thermal reactors. As an application of FROD 1.0 the behavior of fuel rod loaded in the first core of Go-ri Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1 is predicted for the two power histories corresponding to steady state operation and Codition II of the ANS Classification. The results are compared with the design criteria described in the Final Safety Analysis Report and a discrepancy between these two values is discussed herein.
This research, in order to study the effects of initial shear stress of anisotropically consolidated sand that has 0.558% fines, performed several undrained static and dynamic triaxial test. To simulate the real field conditions, loose and dense samples were prepared. Besides, the cyclic shear strength of Nakdong River sand under various combinations of initial static shear stress, stress path, pore water pressure and residual strength relationship was studied. By using Bolton's theory, peak internal friction angle at failure which has considerable effects on the relative density and mean effective stress was determined. In p'- q diagram, the phase transformation line moves closer to the failure line as the specimen's initial anistropical consolidation stress increases. Loose sands were more affected than dense sands. The increase of consolidation stress ratio from 1.4 to 1.8 had an effect on liquefaction resistance strength resulting from the increase of relativity density, and showed similar CSR values in dense specimen condition.

When a tunnel is excavated below groundwater table, the groundwater flows into the excavated wall of tunnel and seepage forces are acting on the tunnel wall. Such seepage forces significantly affect the ground reaction curve which is defined as the relationship between internal pressure and radial displacement of tunnel wall. In this paper, seepage forces arising from the ground water flow into a tunnel were estimated quantitatively. Magnitude of seepage forces was decided based on hydraulic gradient distribution around tunnel. Using these results, the theoretical solutions of ground reaction curve with consideration of seepage forces under steady-state flow were derived. A no-support condition and a supported condition with grouted bolts and shotcrete lining were considered, respectively. The theoretical solution derived in this study was validated by numerical analysis. The changes in the ground reaction curve according to various cover depths and groundwater table conditions were investigated. Based on the results, the application limit of theoretical solutions was suggested.
