  • The objective of research is to clarify the interaction between dislocations and precipitates during high temperature creep deformation behaviors of high Mn austenitic steels. After measuring the internal stress in minimum creep rate at 873K, a transmission electron microscope (TEM) observation was performed to investigate the interaction between dislocations and precipitates during high temperature creep deformation. The band width of effective stress and internal stress increased when the nitride precipitates distribute more densely. Fine nitrides disturbed the dislocation movement with pinning the dislocations and perfect dislocations were separated into Shockley partial dislocations by fine nitrides. Coarse nitrides disturbed the dislocation movement with climb mechanism.

A Case of Nonthrombotic Pulmonary Embolism after Facial Injection of Hyaluronic Acid in an Illegal Cosmetic Procedure

  • Hyaluronic acid is widely used in medical procedures, particularly in cosmetic procedures administered by physicians or nonmedical personnel. The materials used for cosmetic procedures by physicians as well as illegally by non-medical personnel can cause nonthrombotic pulmonary embolism (NTPE). We report the case of a woman with acute respiratory failure, neurologic symptoms and petechiae after an illegal procedure of hyaluronic acid dermal filler performed by an unlicensed medical practitioner 3 days before symptom onset. Although a few cases of NTPE after injection of hyaluronic acid have been reported yet, this is the first typical case showing a NTPE manifestation after the facial injection of hyaluronic acid.

  • A piezoelectric actuator. which is composed of a piezoelectrically driven stator and a rotor, Is made and the characteristics are investigated experimentally is a new ultrasonic actuator which transforms rotary motion to linear one is proposed and proved to work successfully. If an ultrasonic wave is excited to propagate in the stator, particles on the internal surface move elliptically. Since the internal surface is machined as an internal thread and an external thread(rotor) is put into the stator. the external thread is rotated through the friction force and moved in the axial direction. The traveling wave is excited by a piezoelectric element bonded to the stator. This idea is firstly proposed by S. Ueha, et al. in 1987. However, efficiency of their actuator is less than 3%. In this study, in order to improve characteristics of this type actuator, we used various pitches and number of the screw thread, and materials of rotor, and we obtained good charcteristics.

  • Although magnesium has high potential for structural material due to the lightweight and high specific strength, the structural application has been limited by the low ductility at room temperature. The reason of the poor ductility is few activated slip systems of magnesium (HCP structure) during deformation. As temperature increases, however, additional non-basal slip systems are incorporated to exhibit higher ductility comparable to aluminum. In the present study, a series of tensile tests of Mg-Al alloy has been carried out to study deformation behavior with temperature variation. Analysis of load relaxation test results based on internal variable approach gave information about relationship between the micromechanical character and corresponding deformation behavior of magnesium. Especially, the material parameter, p representing dislocation permeability through barriers was altered from 0.1 to 0.15 as the non-basal slip systems were activated at high temperature.

  • A miniaturized fluorescence detection system based on total internal reflection (TIR) configuration, which is applicable to detecting the presence of biological materials labeled with fluorescence dye in micro total analysis systems (${\mu}TAS$), is proposed. In conventional fluorescence testing and analysis devices, interference between the excitation light beam and the emitted light from dyes is unavoidable. This paper presents a fluorescence detection system based on TIR configuration that allows the excitation light beam and the emitted light to be spatially perpendicular to each other so as to minimize the interference where fluorescence emission is detected at the orthogonal angle to the excitation beam. We achieved the limit of detection of about 5 nmol/L with a high linearity of 0.994 over a wide range of 6-FAM mol concentration, being comparable to that in earlier studies.

Reduction of the residual stresses during the additive manufacturing of a thermo-viscoelastic growing cylinder under non-uniform volumetric heating by electric induction

  • The paper investigates the residual stresses arising in a thermoviscoelastic cylinder as a result of layer-by-layer deposition of material on its lateral surface. Internal stresses are caused by incompatible deformations that accumulate in the assembly as a result of joining parts with different temperatures. For the analysis of internal stresses, an analytical solution to the axisymmetric quasi-static problem of thermoelasticity for a growing cylinder is constructed. It is shown that the distribution of residual stresses depends on the scenario of the surfacing process. In this case, the supply of additional heat to the growing body can significantly reduce the unevenness of temperature fields and reduce the intensity of residual stresses. The most effective is uneven heating, which can be realized, by the action of an alternating current with a tunable excitation frequency. The temperature and residual stresses fields on the growing surface is analyzed numerically for Titanium and Copper materials.

항균제 및 향료의 마이크로캡슐을 이용한 항균.방향 섬유에 관한 연구(2) 마이크로캡슐의 직물에의 적용- (A Study of Antibacterial and Aromatic Fibers Using Microeapsule of Antibiotics and Perfume (2) - application of microcapsule to fabric -)

  • Microcapsules containing 2,4,4'-trichloro-2-hydroxydiphenyl ether (DP) and perfumes were prepared by the coacervation using poly (vinyl alcohol) and crosslinking agents. Internal phase content, percent releasing of core materials, antimicrobial activities of microcapsules and fabrics treated with them were investigated. The internal content of microcapsules containing perfumes and DP are increased with increasing perfumes. The internal content of cacharia in the microcapsue was higher than that of lemon and its maimum value was 93%. The microcapsules containing perfumes and DP did not release cacharia and lemon at roonl temperature. But the amount of perfumes released from microcapsules were increased with temperature and time of microcapsules containing DP and perfumes showed 100% reduction percentage of bacteria. The size of obstruction of fabrics treated with microcapsule containing DP and perfumes were increased with DP content in microcapsules.

Electrospinning Technology for Novel Energy Conversion & Storage Materials

  • Electrospinning has known to be very effective tool for production of versatile one-dimensional (1D) nanostructured materials such as nanofibers, nanorod, and nanotubes and for easily assembly to two-, three-dimensional(2D, 3D) nanostructures such as thin film, membrane, and nonwoven web, etc. We have studied on the electrospinning technology for novel energy storage and conversion materials such as advanced separator, dye sensitized solar cell, supercapacitor, etc. High heat-resistive nanofibrous membrane as a new separator for future lithium ion polymer battery was prepared by electrospinning of PVdF based composite solution. The novel nanofibrous composite nonwovens have tensile strength of above 50 MPa and modulus of above 1.3 GPa. The internal structure of the electrospun composite nanofiber with a diameter of few hundreds nanometer were composed of core-shell nanostructure. And also electrospun $TiO_2$ nanorod/nanosphere based dye-sensitized solar cells with high efficiency are successfully prepared. Some battery performance will be introduced.

재료역학과 구조역학 수업을 위한 전산프로그램 개발 (Development of New Computer Program for Mechanics of Materials and Structural Mechanics Courses)

  • The new computer program, visual SolidMech (ver 2.0), for mechanics of materials and structural mechanics has been developed using visual C++. The visual SolidMech is organized in a format similar to most standard texts on mechanics of materials and structural mechanics. This program consists of a number of menus to perform various calculations as well as a set of dedicated graphical user interfaces. Solutions to problems are given in both graphical and numerical forms. The visual SolidMech will help students develop problem-solving skills by showing them the important factors affecting various problem types, by helping them visualize the nature of internal stresses and member deformations, and by providing them an easy-to-use means of investigating a greater number of problems and variations. This new program can be utilized as a supplement to existing texts in mechanics of materials and structural mechanics.

  • Composite materials are widely used to make all kinds of machine parts, internal and structural materials of cars, aerospace industries, building structures, ship materials, sporting goods and others. It is worth the while to use composite materials as various substitutions when compared With others. But the use is limited in the field of the mechanical processing because of its difficulties in cutting. The surface roughness of in and out in the hole processing was discussed after cutting the GFRP with HSS drill in the vertical machining center. And it is observed that as it processed more, the powdered chip may be got more than the fluid type long chip.
