  • In this study, a simplified axisymmetric model is proposed for the problem of compressible internal flow past a microgap. Using numerical and experimental methods, the phenomena of choked flows are observed; these flows are induced by the acceleration of subsonic flows past the narrow cross-section of an annular shape made by a microgap. The relation between mass flow rate and differential pressure is obtained, and by comparing the result with experimental results, the reliability of the numerical results is discussed. The generation of a supersonic jet flow and its diffraction are visualized by performing the numerical analysis of axisymmetric compressible Navier-Stokes equations. This investigation greatly extends the physical understanding of the axisymmetric compressible flow, which has a wide range of engineering applications, e.g., in the case of valves in automotive power systems.

  • Dual pulse rocket motor is a variant of solid rocket motor with two propellant grain separated by a pulse separation device. The major performance of such a rocket motor is influenced by the change in the hole area of pulse separation device to nozzle throat area ratio. In this study, we performed flow analysis to investigate the internal flow characteristics according to the pulse separation device hole area to nozzle throat area ratio change. Gases used flow analysis were used combustion gas of HTPB/AP composite propellant and nitrogen gas. Flow analysis results of the dual pulse rocket motor were validated by comparison with experimental results of pneumatics. Commercial CFD code ANSYS FLUENT 14.5 is used in this study to simulate flow analysis.

  • Adenoid cystic carcinoma formerly called cylindroma is rare tracheal tumor. Characteristics of adenoid cystic carcinoma are infiltrative nature with local recurrence tendency and long natural course of the disease. Adenoid cystic carcinomas develop most commonly in the trachea. Primary resection and end-to-end anastomosis of the involved airway are treatment of choice. And postoperative radiation therapy might be useful, particularly when the surgical margins are not ample. We report two cases of adenoid cystic carcinoma of trachea diagnosed by flow-volume curve.

  • Objective : The objective of this study is to measure the changes of regional cerebral blood flow(rCBF) and blood pressure(BP) in rats with the following injection. Methods : The measurement was continually monitored by laser-doppler flowmeter-Transonic Instrument, USA- and pressure tranducer(Grass, USA) in anesthetized adult Sprague-Dawley rats about for two hour to two hour and a half hours through the data acquisition system composed of Maclab and Macintosh computer. Result : This experiment with Samso-eum increased the changes of rCBF in rats, significantly, but did not change the blood pressure. The rCBF of Samso-eum decreased by pretreated propranolol, and was not changed by pretreated L-NNA and ODQ. Conclusion : It is considered that the dosage-dependent increase on rCBF is mediated by adrenegic ${\beta}$-receptor.

  • Objectives : The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of WS on HepG2 cell cycle and expression of related genes. Methods : The MTT assay, Cell counting analysis, $[^3H]-Thymidine$ Incorporation Assay, Flow cytometric analysis, Quantitative RT-PCR were studied. Results : WS inhibited HepG2 cell proliferation in low concentration$(1-10\;{\mu]g/ml)$ which did not cause direct cytotoxicity, with dose-dependant manner. WS in-hibited DNA synthesis as well. Flow cytometric analysis on the HepG2 cell showed G2/M phase arrest. Conclusion : These results suggest that WS inhibits HepG2 cell proliferation not by the gene regulation but by G2/M phase arrest in the cell cycle. Thus further studies on the effect of WS in G2/M phase regulation are thought to be needed.

  • In coastal regions, it is common to witness significant damages on low-rise buildings caused by hurricanes and other extreme wind events. These damages start at high pressure zones or weak building components, and then cascade to other building parts. The state-of-the-art in experimental and numerical aerodynamic load evaluation is to assume buildings with intact envelopes where wind acts only on the external walls and correct for internal pressure through separate aerodynamic studies. This approach fails to explain the effect of openings on (i) the external pressure, (ii) internal partition walls; and (iii) the load sharing between internal and external walls. During extreme events, non-structural components (e.g., windows, doors or rooftiles) could fail allowing the wind flow to enter the building, which can subject the internal walls to lateral loads that potentially can exceed their load capacities. Internal walls are typically designed for lower capacities compared to external walls. In the present work, an anticipated damage development scenario is modelled for a four-story building with a stepped gable roof. LES is used to examine the change in the internal and external wind flows for different level of assumed damages (starting from an intact building up to a case with failure in most windows and doors are observed). This study demonstrates that damages in non-structural components can increase the wind risk on the structural elements due to changes in the loading patterns. It also highlights the load sharing mechanisms in low rise buildings.

  • Purpose: In this study experiments were performed during 6 weeks with 40 adults, 20 subjects in the waist stabilization exercise with blood flow restriction group and 20 subjects in the waist stabilization exercise without blood flow restriction group, in order to determine the impact of waist stabilization exercise on White Area Index (WAI) followed by blood flow restriction. Methods: Thickness of external oblique abdominal muscle, internal oblique abdominal muscle, and transversus abdominis muscle, as well as density and WAI of external oblique abdominal muscle were measured, followed by performance of repeated ANOVA. Results: Significant difference in thickness of external oblique abdominal muscle according to periodical difference was observed between groups (p<0.05). Significant difference in thickness of internal oblique abdominal muscle and transversus abdominis muscle according to periodical difference was observed between groups (p<0.05). Significant difference in density and WAI of external oblique abdominal muscle according to periodical difference was observed between groups (p<0.05). Conclusion: In conclusion, significant difference was observed after waist stabilization exercise with blood flow restriction. These results can be used as basic data for future research on waist stabilization exercise and blood flow restriction exercise.

  • The effect of inlet and outlet blade angles on a micro regenerative pump head was examined in experiments. The pump head was little increased by changing the blade angles compared with the original pump with the inlet and outlet blade angles of 0 degree. The effect of the axial clearance between the impeller and the casing on the pump head was also examined. The head was increased largely by decreasing the axial clearance. The computation of the internal flow was performed to clarify the cause of the increase of the pump head due to the decrease of the clearance. The local flow rate in the casing decreased as the leakage flow rate through the axial clearance decreased due to the decrease of the clearance. It was found that the larger head in the smaller clearance was just caused by the smaller local flow rate in the casing. In the case of the smaller clearance, the smaller local flow rate caused the smaller circumferential velocity near the front and rear sides of the impeller. This caused the increase of the angular momentum in the casing and the head.

  • The T-s chart of air displays graphically the thermophysical properties, so it is very conveniently used in various thermal systems. In previous study, the software analyzing 31 kinds of values in water system and 32 kinds of values in air-conditioning system were developed. In this study, the software drawing 13 kinds of quantity of state on air properties as ideal gas and analyzing 25 kinds of values in any air system was developed. The 13 kinds of quantity of state on air properties are temperature, pressure, specific volume, specific internal energy, specific enthalpy, specific entropy, specific exergy, exergy ratio, density, isobaric specific heat, isochoric specific heat, ratio of specific heat, and velocity of sound, and the 25 kinds of values including 13 kinds are mass flow rate, volume flow rate, internal energy flow rate, enthalpy flow rate, entropy flow rate, exergy flow rate, heat flow rate, power output, power efficiency, reversible work, lost work, and relative humidity. The developed software can draw any range of chart and analysis any state or process on air system. Also, this supports various document-editing functions such as power point. We wish to this chart is a help to design, analysis, and education in air system field.
