FLOODING PSA BY CONSIDERING THE OPERATING EXPERIENCE DATA OF KOREAN PWRs

  • The existing flooding Probabilistic Safety Analysis(PSA) was updated to reflect the Korean plant specific operating experience data into the flooding frequency to improve the PSA quality. Both the Nuclear Power Experience(NPE) database and the Korea Nuclear Pipe Failure Database(NuPIPE) databases were used in this study, and from these databases, only the Pressurized Water Reactor(PWR) data were used for the flooding frequencies of the flooding areas in the primary auxiliary building. With these databases and a Bayesian method, the flooding frequencies for the flooding areas were estimated. Subsequently, the Core Damage Frequency(CDF) for the flooding PSA of the Ulchin(UCN) unit 3 and 4 plants based on the Korean Standard Nuclear Power Plant(KSNP) internal full-power PSA model was recalculated. The evaluation results showed that sixteen flooding events are potentially significant according to the screening criterion, while there were two flooding events exceeding the screening criterion of the existing UCN 3 and 4 flooding PSA. The result was compared with two kinds of cases: (1) the flooding frequency and CDF from the method of the existing flooding PSA with the PWR and Boiled Water Reactor(BWR) data of the NPE database and the Maximum Likelihood Estimate(MLE) method and (2) the flooding frequency and CDF with the NPE database(PWR and BWR data), NuPIPE database, and a Bayesian method. From the comparison, a difference in CDF results was revealed more clearly between the CDF from this study and case (2) than between case (1) and case (2). That is, the number of flooding events exceeding the screen criterion further increased when only the PWR data were used for the primary auxiliary building than when the Korean specific data were used.

선박 운동과 내부 유동의 연성 운동에 관한 수치해석 연구 (A Numerical Study on the Coupled Dynamics of Ship and Flooding Water)

  • This paper presents a numerical method to solve the ship motion coupled with internal fluid flow. Physically the internal fluid motion is coupled with the ship motion. Hitherto the previous numerical results of the coupled motion predict only the general tendency with experiments. The main reason of inaccuracy is that the coupled dynamics of ship motion and internal water motion is not accurately accounted. In this study CFD technique based on VOF is employed for the accurate analysis of flooding water motion. Some cases of the 24th ITTC stability committee's benchmark.study for tanker with internal fluid are analyzed by coupling the ship motion and sloshing dynamics. The calculated ship motion is compared with the experimental result to validate the coupled scheme and is in agreement with the experimental result.

강우사상과 침수 실측자료를 이용한 도시침수 양상 관계분석 (Analysis of the urban flood pattern using rainfall data and measurement flood data)

  • Urban flooding occurs in the form of internal-water inundation on roads and lowlands due to heavy rainfall. Unlike in the case of rivers, inundation in urban areas there is lacking in research on predicting and warning through measurement data. In order to analyze urban flood patterns and prevent damage, it is necessary to analyze flooding measurement data for various rainfalls. In this study, the pattern of urban flooding caused by rainfall was analyzed by utilizing the urban flooding measuring sensor, which is being test-run in the flood prone zone for urban flooding management. For analysis, 2019 rainfall data, surface water depth data, and water level data of a street inlet (storm water pipeline) were used. The analysis showed that the amount of rainfall that causes flooding in the target area was identified, and the timing of inundation varies depending on the rainfall pattern. The results of the analysis can be used as verification data for the urban inundation limit rainfall under development. In addition, by using rainfall intensity and rainfall patterns that affect the flooding, it can be used as data for establishing rainfall criteria of urban flooding and predicting that may occur in the future.

자연급기 무가습 연료전지의 Dry-out조건 (Dry-out conditions of free-breathing PEMFC with dry $H_2$ gas)

  • This study investigates drying condition when a small fan is added to a operating the free-breathing proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) with dry $H_2$ and Air. Polarization tests were conducted on PEMFCs at cell temperatures between 30 and $50^{\circ}C$ under dry operation. In the results, the cell performance strongly depended on the cell temperature and the cathode gas stoichiometric flow rates. The cell performance increases as cell temperature decreases from 50 to $30^{\circ}C$. In the domain where the stoichiometry of air is quite large, reduction of the concentration overpotential compensated the increased internal resistance due to drying. The maximum performance was obtained at the small air flow rate beyond which flooding occurs. This indicates that the fan should be operated in the stoichiometry domain with a well designed cell structure to avoid flooding.

Impact of Coping and Communication Skills Program on Physician Burnout, Quality of Life, and Emotional Flooding

  • Background: Physician behaviors that undermine a culture of safety have gained increasing attention as health-care organizations strive to create a culture of safety and reduce medical errors. We developed, implemented, and assessed a course to teach physicians skills regarding effective coping and interpersonal communication skills and present our results regarding outcomes. Methods: We examined a professional development program specifically designed to address unprofessional or distressed behaviors of physicians, and we evaluated the impact on burnout, quality of life, and emotional flooding scores of the physicians. Assessments of burnout, quality of life, and emotional flooding were assessed preintervention and postintervention. Results: Results demonstrated statistically significant reductions over time in physicians' emotional flooding and emotional exhaustion (EE). Specifically, using a Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test, results revealed that flooding scores at follow-up were statistically significantly lower than at baseline, V = 590, p < 0.05, and EE and personal accomplishment distributions were found to significantly deviate from normal as indicated by Shapiroe-Wilks tests (p < 0.05). A Wilcoxon signed-rank test indicated that EE scores were significantly higher at baseline compared to follow-up 1, V = 285, p < 0.05. Conclusion: We conclude that the physician participants who enrolled in the educational skills training program improved scores on emotional flooding and EE and that this may be indicative of improved skills related to their experiences and learning in the program. These improved skills in physicians may have a positive impact on the overall culture of safety in the health system setting.

내수위 조건에 따른 도시내수침수 예보에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Urban Inundation Flooding Forecasting According to the Water Level Conditions)

  • 전 세계적으로 발생하고 있는 이상기후현상으로 자연재해의 발생빈도와 피해규모가 증가하고 있는 추세이다. 이로 인하여 도시유역의 수문학적 양상이 변화함에 따라 불투수 면적 증가와 함께 증가된 호우로 심각한 내수침수 피해를 가져온다. 이에 인명 및 재산피해를 최소화하기 위하여 내수침수 예측체계가 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 강우강도와 지속시간만으로 침수예측이 가능한 Flood Nomogram을 개발하였다. 내수침수 발생가능이 매우 높고 침수 위험도가 높은 대도시내 침수예상 지역의 내수침수피해 특성을 분석하여 내수침수 예보 기준을 설정하는 방법을 제시하였다. 또한 우수맨홀과 우수관경을 기준으로 내수위를 4가지 조건하에 도시내수침수 예보 기준을 다음과 같이 설정하였다. 1) 우수맨홀이 넘칠 때, 2) 우수관경이 가득 찼을 때, 3) 우수관경의 70%에 도달했을 때, 그리고 4) 우수관경의 60%에 도달했을 경우이다. 따라서, 침수가 발생하기 시작하는 강우와 침수피해를 유발하는 강우사상을 통하여, 내수침수가 시작되기 전에 사전대비, 대응할 수 있는 기준과 예측하는 수단으로 활용할 수 있을 것으로 나타났다.

Effect of HPAM on Calcium Carbonate Crystallization

  • With the wide application of ASP (alkaline-surfactant-polymer) flooding, the scaling becomes more and more serious, which is harmful to the oilfield and environment. In order to investigate the effects of HPAM on calcium carbonate crystallization, the crystallization behaviors of $CaCO_3$ in HPAM (Hydrolyzed polyacrylamide) solutions were studied and the composition and morphology of $CaCO_3$ crystal were investigated in different concentrations of polyacrylamide solutions. The crystal forms and morphologies of $CaCO_3$ were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The results show that the crystallization of $CaCO_3$ is strongly influenced by the HPAM. The paper analyzed the internal cause, and the results show: The reasons leading to the change of morphology are carboxyl groups in polyacrylamide molecule and $Ca^{2+}$ in solution form chelates by coordination bond. And the chelates are adsorbed on the calcium hydroxide surfaces of solid-liquid interfaces so as to change the formation rate of calcium carbonate crystal nucleus. The research provides a reliable basis for the mechanism research of the scaling problem in the oil extraction process of ASP flooding and the adoption of scale inhibition and scale inhibitor.

A new methodology for modeling explicit seismic common cause failures for seismic multi-unit probabilistic safety assessment

  • In a seismic PSA, dependency among seismic failures of components has not been explicitly modeled in the fault tree or event tree. This dependency is separately identified and assigned with numbers that range from zero to unity that reflect the level of the mutual correlation among seismic failures. Because of complexity and difficulty in calculating combination probabilities of correlated seismic failures in complex seismic event tree and fault tree, there has been a great need of development to explicitly model seismic correlation in terms of seismic common cause failures (CCFs). If seismic correlations are converted into seismic CCFs, it is possible to calculate an accurate value of a top event probability or frequency of a complex seismic fault tree by using the same procedure as for internal, fire, and flooding PSA. This study first proposes a methodology to explicitly model seismic dependency by converting correlated seismic failures into seismic CCFs. As a result, this methodology will allow systems analysts to quantify seismic risk as what they have done with the CCF method in internal, fire, and flooding PSA.

Flood analysis for agriculture area using SWMM model: case study on Sindae drainage basin

  • Globally, abnormal climate phenomena have led to an increase in rainfall intensity, consequently causing a rise in flooding-related damages. Agricultural areas, in particular, experience significant annual losses every year due to a lack of research on flooding in these regions. This study presents a comprehensive analysis of the flood event that occurred on July 16, 2017, in the agricultural area situated in Sindaedong, Heungdeok-gu, Cheongju-si. To achieve this, the EPA (United States Environmental Protection Agency) Storm Water Management Model (SWMM) was employed to generate runoff data by rainfall information. The produced runoff data facilitated the identification of flood occurrence points, and the analysis results exhibited a strong correlation with inundation trace maps provided by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS). The detailed output of the SWMM model enabled the extraction of time-specific runoff information at each inundation point, allowing for a detailed understanding of the inundation status in the agricultural area over different time frames. This research underscores the significance of utilizing the SWMM model to simulate inundation in agricultural areas, thereby validating the efficacy of flood alerts and risk management plans. In particular, the integration of rainfall data and the SWMM model in flood prediction methodologies is expected to enhance the formulation of preventative measures and response strategies against flood damages in agricultural areas.
