Design and fabrication of a Triple Band Internal Antenna for Handset (휴대용 내장형 트리플(DCS, PCS, UPC5) 안테나 설계 및 제작)

  • In this paper, triple band mobile chip antenna for DCS($1.71{\sim}1.88GHz$) / PCS($1.75{\sim}1.87GHz$) / UPCS($1.85{\sim}1.99GHz$) on PCB Layout is fabricated. As designed and fabricated antenna is loaded PCB layout, that plate a both side at two independence patterns(upper & lower) to reduce the size and a capacitor for DCS, PCS, UPCS band is proposed. The antenna has a small size of about $19mm{\times}4mm{\times}1.6mm$, narrow bandwidth which is the defect of chip antenna is improved. Bandwidth of fabricated antenna to VSWR less than 2 is satisfied and all bandwith is acquired 15.1 % at $1.71GHz{\sim}1.99GHz$.

Design of Digital Block for LF Antenna Driver (LF 안테나 구동기의 디지털 블록 설계)

  • PE(Passive Entry) is an automotive technology which allows a driver to lock and unlock door of vehicle without using smart key buttons personally. PG(Pssive Go) is an automotive technology which offers the ability to start and stop the engine when there is a driver in vehicle with smart key. When these two functions are unified, we call it PEG(Passive Entry/Go). LF(Low Frequency) antenna driver which is one of core technologies in PEG is composed of a digital part which processes commands and an analog part which generates sine waveform. The digital part of antenna driver receives commands from MCU(or ECU), and processes requested commands by MCU, and stores antenna-related driver commands and data on an internal FIFO block. The digital part takes corresponding actions for commands read from FIFO and then transfers modulated LF data to analog part. The analog part generates sine waveform and transmits outside through antenna. The designed digital part for LF antenna driver can acomplish faster LF data transmission than that of conventional product. LF antenna driver can be applicable to the areas such as PEG for automotive and gate opening and closing of building.

Printed Meander-Monopole Antenna for Multiband Wireless USB Dongle Applications (무선 USB 동글 장치를 위한 프린트형 미앤더 모노폴 안테나)

  • In this paper, a novel printed meander monopole antenna is proposed for wireless USB dongle applications. Dual-wideband resonance is obtained by utilizing a printed meander monopole radiator. The proposed antenna was fabricated on a thin FR-4 substrate with a thickness of 1 mm and a dielectric constant of 4.6. The antenna is fed by a $50{\Omega}$ coaxial cable. This novel USB dongle antenna measures only $10{\times}50mm^2$. The measured results demonstrates that the antenna supports WiBro, Bluetooth/ISM, WLAN, S-DMB, and WiMAX service bands.

  • In this paper, we proposed the internal antenna on PCB(Planar Circuit Board) for achieving WWAN(Wireless Wide Area Network) operation in the laptop computer. The proposed antenna has a metal structure instead of printed pattern on PCB to improve the antenna characteristics for GSM850/900 bands. Compared to PCB embedded antenna without metal structure, the proposed antenna occupies similar area of $74{\times}11{\times}0.5\;mm^3$ with before and the bandwidth of the proposed one for GSM850/900 bands is increased 13 MHz than before. Further we confirmed that the proposed antenna has higher radiation gain of -4.45~-2.29 dBi for GSM850/900 bands than PCB embedded antenna without metal structure.

A Design of the Multiband Small Chip Antenna Using the Branch Structure and Gap Feeding for Mobile Phone (가지 구조와 간극 급전을 사용한 휴대 단말기용 소형 유전체 다중 대역 칩 안테나)

  • In this paper, the antenna which has a multiband operation (GSM850, EGSM, DCS1800, USPCS, W-CDMA) is proposed. This antenna was designed by the commercial software HFSS 3-D EM simulator, and it is organized by using a meander branch structure which has a via and lines on FR-4$(\varepsilon_r=4.4)$ substrate. Especially, it has a gap feeding structure which makes good operation at overall bandwidth. The designed antenna is manufactured by PCB processing, and measured by using a network analyzer and a test chamber. The manufactured antenna with the dimension of 8 mm width, 20 mm height and 3.2 mm thickness is able to applied as an internal antenna for multiband mobile phones.

  • In this thesis, the characteristics of an inverted-F antenna for the 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz zwirless local area network(WLAN) have been analysed in terms of the variation of design parameters. The antenna can be integrated on WLAN for notebook printed circuit board, and the characteristics in terms of the variation of the gap between feed line and shorting stub, gap between antenna's leg and ground plane, antenna leg's width, substrate's height and dielectric constant are analysed. By using these characterization plot of design parameter, the tuning techniques are proposed to design optimum antenna. The designed antenna has 170MHz, 500MHz frequency bandwidth ,VSWR is 1.6, 1.14 and 3.5dBi gain.

  • In this paper, triple band mobile chip antenna for DCS(1.71${\sim}$1.88GHz) / PCS(1.75${\sim}$1.87GHz) / UPCS(1.8S${\sim}$1.99GHz) on PCB Layout is designed. To analyze the characteristics of the designed antenna, we used commerical simulation tool(HFSS). Triple and wide band characteristic could be realized the measured bandwidth(V.S.W.R<2.0) of the designed antenna operated in 1.71GHz${\sim}$1.99GHz. The size of the designed antenna is about 19mm${\times}$4mm${\times}$1.6mm, narrow bandwidth which is a defect of chip antenna is improved. And its experimental results were a good agreement with simulation performance.

  • In this paper, we propose a new technique to compensate for the VCO nonlinearity using only the returned beat signal whose spectrum contains the internal reflections and the targets simultaneously. In the case of a distance measurement system using single antenna, the reflections from the circulator and the antenna are much larger than the return signal from target. The beat signal by these reflections is at much lower frequency than that of the target, and the VCO nonlinearity can be compensated for using these signals. Indoor experiments were carried out and the results show marked improvement in the shape of range profile and the range resolution.

Inverted π Feeding PIFA for Gain Improvement for the Mobile Phone (이득 증가를 위한 휴대 단말기용 역 파이 급전 PIFA)

  • It is shown that inverted ${\pi}$ feeder affects the gain improvement for the internal antenna of mobile phone. Generation of current on the inverted ${\pi}$ feeder, by the modification of conventional feeding structure for the PIFA and IFA, can apply T matching theory to the new feeder. Therefore, inverted ${\pi}$ feeder based on the T matching theory makes higher radiation resistance, and also increases the gain. To verify inverted ${\pi}$ feeding effect, feeder is applied to GSM/DCS dual band conventional PIFA, and measured return loss and patterns. By measurement, it's shown that this new feeding antenna has $0.23{\sim}0.84$ dB higher average gain for GSM band and $0.01{\sim}1.74$ dB higher average gain for DCS band than conventional fed PIFA without resonant frequency change.

Analysis of Corugated Surface Wave Antenna Using Hybrid MOM/UTD Method (하이브리드 MOM/UTD 방법을 이용한 주름진 표면파 안테나의 해석)

  • The analysis of a surface wave antenna with the corrugated ground plane fed by a parallel-plate waveguide is considered. An equivalent theorem Is employed to subdivide the original problem into three regions for the simple analysis : one concerning the geometry inside the shorted parallel-plate(Internal region 1), one concerning the geometry of the corrugation(Internal region 2), and one concerning the geometry of the conducting wedge(External region). The hybrid method of moment(MOM)/uniform geometrical theory of diffraction(UTD) method is applied to analyze a corrugated surface wave antenna with the end-fire radiation. Our numerical results are very well matched with those of the previous experiment, better results are obtained when compared with those of the previous simple equivalent current approach. Also, we can obtain the parameters to design an effective end-fire corrugated surface wave antenna.
