  • We developed an achievable control logic for the reactor power level during a power maneuvering event and set up some constraints for the control of the reactor power in a conceptual sodium-cooled fast reactor (KALIMER-600) that was developed at KAERI. For simulating the dynamic behaviors of the plant, we developed a fast-running performance analysis code. Through various simulations of the power maneuvering event, we evaluated some suggested control logic for the reactor power and found an achievable control logic. The objective of the control logic is to search for the position of the control rods that would keep the average temperature of the primary pool constant and, concurrently, minimize the power deviation between the reactor and the BOP cycle during the power maneuvering. In addition, the flow rates of the primary pool and the intermediate loop should be changed according to the power level in order to not violate the constraints set up in this study. Also, we evaluated some movement speeds of the control rods and found that a fast movement of the control rods might cause the power to fluctuate during the power maneuvering event. We suggested a reasonable movement speed of the control rods for the developed control logic.

  • The point-based complex event processing handled an instantaneous event by using one time stamp in each event. However, the activity period of the event plays the important role in the field which is the same as the finance, multimedia, medicine, and meteorology. The point-based event is insufficient for expressing the complex temporal relationship in this field. In the application field of the real-time world, the event has the period. The events more than two kinds can be temporally overlapped. In addition, one event can include the other event. The relation about the events of kind of these can not be successive like the point-based event. This thesis designs and implements the method detecting the patterns of the complex event by using the interval-based events. The interval-based events can express the overlapping relation between events. Furthermore, it can include the others. By using the end point of beginning and end point of the termination, the operator of interval-based events shows the interval-based events. It expresses the sequence of the interval-based events and can detect the complex event patterns. This thesis proposes the algorithm using the active instance stack in order to raise efficiency of detection of the complex event patterns. When comprising the event sequence, this thesis applies the window push down technique in order to reduce the number of intermediate results. It raises the utility factor of the running time and memory.

  • The hardening model based on the dislocation mechanics is employed to study the experimentally observed high tensile elongations of NiAl along the [110] orientation at intermediate temperatures. In the hardening model proposed, a mobility of dislocation is assumed to be restricted to glide through the slip plane by forest dislocation and thermally activated cross-slip event. Overall deformation behavior of NiAl was greatly influenced by temperature-dependent dislocation mobility that both experimental and simulated yield stresses decreased as temperature increased. The results of simulation showed anomalous hardening behaviors analogous to those of experiment at certain circumstances. This behavior occurred due to the hardening contributions generated by cross-slip events that disable the dislocation motion in the primary slip systems. By comparing simulation results with experiments, it is confirmed that the proposed hardening model can represent anomalous tensile elongations due to the hardening by forest dislocations and cross-slip events.

  • The DSP silicon compiler consists of language compiler, module generator, placement tool, router, layout generation tools, and simulator. In this paper, The language compiler, the module generator, placement tool, and simulator were developed and provided for the system designer. The language compiler translates the designer's system description language into the intermediate form file. The intermediate form file expresses the interconnections and specifications of the cells in the cell library. The simulator was developed and provided for the behavioral verification of the DSP system. For its implementation, the event-driven technique and the C$^{++}$ task library was used. The module generator was developed for the layout of the verified DSP system, and generates the functional block to be used in the DSP chip. And then the placement tool determines the appropriate positions of the cells in the DSP chip. In this paper, the placement tool was implemented by Min-Cut and Simulated Annealing algorithm. The placement process can be controlled by the several conditions input by the system designer.

  • An intermediate atmosphere-ocean coupled model appropnate for the study of El Nino has been developed. The model is not only economic to use but also contains several most important physical processes. The geometrical effects which were not confided in the previous intermediate model study of Ahn (1990), are included in the model for more realistic simulation of the event. The results show that the individual models respond appropriately to the given boundary conditions. At the same time, in the coupled model experiment, ENSO-like oceanic and atmospheric anomalies are also well simulated under an external triggering similar to the initiation forcing of ENSO. It is expected that this type of model can be effectively used for the. study and simulation of El Nido. More improvement of modeling may be Possible after inclusion of subsequent processes such as inclusion of ocean mixed layer dynamics.

  • This article presents a new generation of empirical ground motion models for the prediction of response spectral accelerations in soil conditions, specifically developed for the Vrancea intermediate-depth seismic source. The strong ground motion database from which the ground motion prediction model is derived consists of over 800 horizontal components of acceleration recorded from nine Vrancea intermediate-depth seismic events as well as from other seventeen intermediate-depth earthquakes produced in other seismically active regions in the world. Among the main features of the new ground motion model are the prediction of spectral ordinates values (besides the prediction of the peak ground acceleration), the extension of the magnitudes range applicability, the use of consistent metrics (epicentral distance) for this type of seismic source, the extension of the distance range applicability to 300 km, the partition of total standard deviation in intra- and inter-event standard deviations and the use of a national strong ground motion database more than two times larger than in the previous studies. The results suggest that this model is an improvement of the previous generation of ground motion prediction models and can be properly employed in the analysis of the seismic hazard of Romania.

  • M85 is a nearby merger remnant galaxy located at the northern part of the Virgo Cluster. Because of its remarkable merging features, it is an interesting object to investigate its formation history. Globular clusters are a great tracer of the formation history of early-type galaxies, so that we study the globular cluster system of M85. It has been already found that there are "intermediate-color" globular clusters as well as blue and red ones based on the photometric survey using CFHT/Megacam. For follow-up research, we obtain the spectra of 21 globular clusters in the central region of M85 using Gemini-N/GMOS. We estimate their ages and metallicities based on the strength of Lick indices. We detect the intermediate-age population (~ 2 Gyr) with solar metallicities, comprising about 50% of the observed globular clusters, as well as old and metal-poor population. It suggests that M85 experienced a major merging event around 2 Gyr ago. We discuss these results regarding to the formation history of M85.

  • We generate new intermediate images between observed consecutive solar images using NVIDIA's SuperSloMo that is a novel video interpolation method. This technique creates intermediate frames between two successive frames to form a coherent video sequence for both spatially and temporally. By using SuperSloMo, we create 600 images (12-second interval) using the observed 121 SDO/AIA 304 Å images (1-minute interval) of a filament eruption event on December 3, 2012. We compare the generated images with the original 12-second images. For the generated 480 images the correlation coefficient (CC), the relative error (R1), and the normalized mean square error (R2) are 0.99, 0.40, and 0.86, respectively. We construct a video made of the generated images and find a smoother erupting movement. In addition, we generate nonexistent 2.4-second interval images using the original 12-second interval images, showing slow motions in the eruption. We will discuss possible applications of this method.

  • Currently, various research institutes in Korea are conducting research to develop a safety case for deep geological repository for high-level radioactive waste (HLW). In the past, low and intermediate-level waste (LILW) was approved by a regulatory body by performing a post-closure safety assessment, but HLW has different disposal characteristics and safety objectives are different. Therefore, in the case of HLW, safety assessment should be performed based on these changed conditions, and specific procedures are also under development. In this paper, the regulatory status of prior research institutes, feature, event and process (FEP) and scenario development cases were investigated for well-organized FEP and scenario development methodologies. In addition, through the results of these surveys, the requirements and procedures necessary for the FEP and scenario development stage during the safety assessment of repository for HLW were presented. These review results are expected to be used to identify the overall status of previous studies in conducting post-closure risk assessment for HLW repository, starting with identifying regulatory requirements, the most basic element.
