A Study on the Interior Noise Characteristics of KTX with Improved Mud Flap for Various Track Conditions (머드플랩이 개선된 KTX차량의 궤도구간별 실내소음 특성에 관한 연구)

  • There has been an increasing demand for the mitigation of noise and vibration caused by KTX. One of considered noise reduction methods which is to enlarge mud-flap in gangway was selected and the replacement of all KTX mud-flaps by improved mud-flaps was completed recently. To investigate the noise characteristics of KTX with improved mud-flap, the measurement was performed. Based on the measurement results, the assessment of noise level, noise characteristics by speed and pure tone analysis for various track conditions was executed. It is shown that the use of improved mud-flap is effective to reduce the interior noise of KTX.

  • Gear whine noise of the axle and transmission is getting more important for reduction of vehicle noise, because major noise of vehicle was reduced. Therefore, in this paper, axle noise and vibration is measured, then the modal analysis and running modal analysis is applied for identification of axle gear whine noise. And To reduce axle noise, Various structural modifications are performed by using FEM and BEM techniques.

  • As the needs of consumer on ride comforts increase and the reduction of road traffic noise tightened step by step, the power unit noise emitted by cars has been reduced. It has been found that tire noise dominates noise produced by the power-train when vehicles are driven at high speeds. Therefore, in these days, tire/pavement noise is concerned. Tire/pavement noise is affected by pavement type and vehicle???s transmission loss. Tire noise mechanism is produced by several mechanisms. The sound of tire can propagate either through the air or through the structure of vehicle. Pattern noise is the result of pressure variations through the air to the interior side of vehicle. Especially, on smooth asphalt the periodicity of tread design, pitch sequence is important factor, which have an influence on the reduction of tire noise.

  • Caliper intergrated Electric Parking Brake (EPB) is an automatic parking brake system, attached to rear caliper. Because EPB uses luxury vehicles recently, the drivers of vehicles are sensitive to the EPB noise. EPB is operated by the motor and gear, so noise is generated by motor and gear. In order to reduce noise, One of EPB manufacturers uses helical gear and changes the shape of EPB housing. But these methods are not optimized for reduction of interior noise. There are many noise transfer paths into vehicle interior and it is difficult to identify the noise sources. Therefore, in this study, we performed contribution analysis and modal testing in the vehicle system. It is possible to distinguish between air-borne noise and structure-borne noise in the vehicle interior noise by comparing interior noise peak with resonance mode map.

  • Recently data centers are being established or expanded according to IT industry development. A data center must be to install emergency generator. In case of the data center located the densely populated urban area, the operating noise of an emergency generator can be the cause of complains. In this case, in order to establish an effective and economical measure and quantitative and thorough review is needed by noise & vibration specialists. To achieve this, in this study, it is suggested noise reduction measure using noise measurement data and 3D noise analysis method.

  • This paper summarizes theoretical work on the multichannel decentralized feedback control of sound radiation from aircraft trim panels using piezoceramic actuators. The aircraft trim panels are generally honeycomb structures designed to meet the design requirement of low weight and high stiffness. They are resiliently-mounted to the fuselage for the passive reduction of noise transmission. It is motivated by the localization of reduction in vibration of single channel active trim panels. 12-channel decentralized feedback control systems are investigated in terms of the reduction of noise and vibration for three configurations of sensor actuator pairs. Local coupling of the closely-spaced sensor and actuator pairs was modeled using single degree of freedom systems. The multichannel control system is characterized using the state-space model. For the stability point of view, the relative stability or robustness is evaluated by comparing the real part of eigenvalues of the system matrix for the three configurations. The control performance is also evaluated and compared for the three configurations. It is found that the multichannel system can lead to the globalization of the reduction in vibration and radiated noise. It does not appear to yield a significant improvement in the vibration because of decreased gain margin. However, the reduction in the radiated noise is remarkably improved due to the variation of the vibration pattern with the actuation configurations.

  • Engine noise is one of the major causes of the interior noise, and so has been studied in various ways in recent days. Recently Intake noise has been extensively studied to reduce the engine noise. Conventional method to reduce the noise is adding several resonators to the induction system. However this causes a reduction of engine output power and an increase of fuel consumption. In this study, the prototype of Active Intake Noise Control System is developed by using the Filtered-x LMS algorithm to reduce the Intake noise during acceleration. Intake noise is more excessively increased when the engine is rapidly accelerated. So, Normalized LMS algorithm is applied to improve the control performance under the rapid acceleration.

  • This paper analyzes the noise sources of an LED lighting module with TRIAC dimming control and proposes an improved EMI filter design for the reduction of conducted noise emission. TRIAC dimming invokes problems of input oscillation and capacitor overvoltage at the lighting module. The proposed double LC filter reduces high noise level from the circuit. The experimental and simulation results show that this approach can make significant contributions to the reduction of conducted noise emission from an LED lighting module with TRIAC dimming control.

  • This paper proposes a novel active noise control (ANC) approach that uses an IIR filter and neural network techniques to effectively reduce interior noise. We construct a multiple-channel IIR filter module which is a linearly augmented framework with a generic IIR model to generate a primary control signal. A three-layer perceptron neural network is employed for establishing a secondary-path model to represent air channels among noise fields. Since the IIR module and neural network are connected in series, the output of an IIR filter is transferred forward to the neural model to generate a final ANC signal. A gradient descent optimization based learning algorithm is analytically derived for the optimal selection of the ANC parameter vectors. Moreover, re-estimation of partial parameter vectors in the ANC system is proposed for online learning. Lastly, we present the results of a numerical study to test our ANC methodology with realistic interior noise measurement obtained from Korean railway trains.

Booming Noise Reduction of Passenger Cars by Mode Decoupling of Structural-Acoustic Systems (구조-음향 모드 비연성에 의한 차량의 부밍 소음 저감)

  • The reduction of booming noise level and improvement of sound quality in the vehicle interior have been major fields of vehicle NVH for many years. In order to reduce the booming noise this paper proposed a system variable, which takes account of mode shapes and natural frequencies of the structural-acoustic system, measurement points and excitation frequency. By simplifying the system variable, the major contributors of panels inculding roof, roof lining, wind shield glasses, doors and floor to booming noise at a specific frequency was experimentally found. Also the relationships between structural modes of roof lining, one of the major contributors, and acoustic modes of compartment cavity were investigated from the viewpoint fo structure-borne noise. In addition, the roof lining was modified structurally by applying marble sponge to the gap between roof and roof lining. Asthe result of structural modification, the booming noise was reduce at target frequency.
