The Morlet wavelet transform method is proposed to analyze a single interferogram with spatial carrier frequency that is captured by an optical interferometer. The method can retain low frequency components that contain the phase information of a measured optical surface, and remove high frequency disturbances by wavelet decomposition and reconstruction. The key to retrieving the phases from the low-frequency wavelet components is to extract wavelet ridges by calculating the maximum value of the wavelet transform amplitude. Afterwards, the wrapped phases can be accurately solved by multiple iterative calculations on wavelet ridges. Finally, we can reconstruct the wave-front of the measured optical element by applying two-dimensional discrete cosine transform to those wrapped phases. Morlet wavelet transform does not need to remove the spatial carrier frequency components manually in the processing of interferogram analysis, but the step is necessary in the Fourier transform algorithm. So, the Morlet wavelet simplifies the process of the analysis of interference fringe patterns compared to Fourier transform. Consequently, wavelet transform is more suitable for automated programming analysis of interference fringes and avoiding the introduction of additional errors compared with Fourier transform.

The German radar satellite TerraSAR was launched in 2007. In this study, interferogram is generated using TerraSAR-X data and DEM (Digital Elevation Model). Coregistration procedures used with SAR images (i.e. master and slave) in traditional method results in serious errors for high resolution TerraSARX data because of the mutual shift of the master and slave images due to topography. This error becomes more serious in mountainous areas in which the coherence between interferometric pairs is relatively low. Here we processed a geometric coregistration with DEM exploiting height information. Through the method, interferometry processing is fulfilled to generate a qualified interferogram and coherence is improved. This approach will help high resolution X-band SAR interferometry in mountainous area.
Holographic interferometry is applied in dental research to study the motion of teeth and the deformation of the associated facial structure. We consider double exposure holographic interferometry which has limiting factors such as the stability of fringes, the recording time, the amount of exposure, the localization of fringes and sensitivity. These factors are taken into account to make interferogram. The resulting interferogram gives fringe pattern which is analyzed qualitatively to determine the relative rotation and the deformation of the facial structure.

While conventional interferometric SAR (InSAR) technique is an excellent tool for displacement observation, it is only sensitive to one-dimensional deformation along the satellite's line-of-sight (LOS). Recently, a multiple aperture interferogram (MAI) technique has been developed to overcome this drawback. This method successfully extracted along-track displacements from InSAR data, based on split-beam InSAR processing, to create forward- and backward- looking interferograms, and was superior to along-track displacements derived by pixel-offset algorithm. This method is useful to measure along-track displacements. However, it does not only decrease the coherence of MAI because three co-registration and resampling procedures are required for producing MAI, but also is confined to a suitable interferometric pair of SAR images having zero Doppler centroid. In this paper, we propose an efficient and robust method to generate MAI from interferometric pair having non-zero Doppler centroid. The proposed method efficiently improves the coherence of MAI, because the co-registration of forward- and backward- single look complex (SLC) images is carried out by time shift property of Fourier transform without resampling procedure. It also successfully removes azimuth flat earth and topographic phases caused by the effect of non-zero Doppler centroid. We tested the proposed method using ERS images of the Mw 7.1 1999 California, Hector Mine Earthquake. The result shows that the proposed method improved the coherence of MAI and generalized MAI processing algorithm.
The imporance and technique of sudtrating the background intensity of the interferogram in digital interferometry is discussed. Also the way of determinating the polynomial and its degree to fit the wavefront is discussed.

Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry (ESPI) has been recently developed and widely used because it has the advantage of being able to measure surface deformations of engineering components and materials in industrial areas without contact. The speckle patterns formed with interference and scattering phenomena can measure not only the out-of-plane but also the in-plane deformations. Digital image equipment processes the information included in the speckle patterns and displays the consequent interferogram on a computer monitor. In this study, the experimental results of a canti-levered plate using ESPI were compared with those obtained from the simple beam theory. The ESPI results of the canti-levered plate, analyzed by 4-step phase shifting method, are close to the theoretical expectation. Similarly, out-of-plane displacements of a spot welded canti-levered plate were also measured by ESPI with 4-step phase shifting technique. The phase map of the spot welded canti-levered plate is quite different from that of the canti-levered plate without spot welding.

Multitemporal interferometric SAR has became an useful geodetic tool for monitoring Earth's surface deformation, generation of precise DEM, and land cover classification even though there still exist certain constraints such as temporal and spatial decorrelation effects, atmospheric artifacts and inaccurate orbit information. The Korea where nearly all areas are heavily vegetated, JERS-1 SAR has advantages in monitoring surface deformations and environmental changes in that it uses 4-times longer wavelength than ERS-l/2 or RADARSAT SAR system. For generating differential SAR interferogram and differential coherence image fer deformation mapping and temporal change detection, respectively, topographic phase removal process is required utilizing a reference inteferogram or external DEM simulation. Because the SAR antenna baseline parameter for JERS-1 is less accurate than those of ERS-l/2, one can not estimate topographic phases from an external DEM and the residual phase appears in differential interferogram. In this paper, we examined topographic phase retrieval method utilizing an external DEM. The baseline refinement is carried out by minimizing the differences between the measured unwrapped phase and the reference points of the DEM.

The white-light scanning interferometer (WSI) is an effective optical measurement system for high-precision industries (e.g., flat-panel display and electronics packaging manufacturers) and semiconductor manufacturing industries. Its major disadvantages include a slow image-capturing speed for interferogram acquisition and a high computational cost for peak-detection on the acquired interferogram. Here, a WSI system is proposed for the semiconductor inspection process. The new imaging acquisition technique uses an 'on-the-fly' imaging system. During the vertical scanning motion of the WSI, interference fringe images are sequentially acquired at a series of pre-defined lens positions, without conventional stepwise motions. To reduce the calculation time, a parallel computing method is used to link multiple personal computers (PCs). Experiments were performed to evaluate the proposed high-speed WSI system.
An earthquake occurred on 17 November 2017 in Pohang, South Korea with a strength of 5.4 Mw. This is the second strongest earthquake recorded by local authorities since the equipment was first installed. In order to improve understanding of earthquakes and surface deformation, many studies have been conducted according to these phenomena. In this research, we will estimate the surface deformation using the Okada model equation. The SAR images of three satellites with different wavelengths (ALOS-2, Cosmo SkyMed and Sentinel-1) were used to produce the interferogram pairs. The interferogram is used as a reference for surface deformation changes by using Okada to determine the source of surface deformation that occurs during an earthquake. The Non-linear optimization (Levemberg-Marquadrt algorithm) and Monte Carlo restart was applied to optimize the fault parameter on modeling process. Based on the modeling results of each satellite data, the fault geometry is ~6 km length, ~2 km width and ~5 km depth. The root mean square error values in the surface deformation model results for Sentinel, CSK and ALOS are 0.37 cm, 0.79 cm and 1.47 cm, respectively. Furthermore, the results of this modeling can be used as learning material in understanding about seismic activity to minimize the impacts that arise in the future.
