  • This is on hydrogen ion-selective memebrane electrodes which were made of tetrabenzylmethylenediamine (TBMDA), tetrabenzylethylenediamine (TBEDA), tetrabenzylpropylenediamine(TBPDA) and tetrabenzylhexylenediamine(TBHDA) as neutral carriers. Their response potentials to carbon number between amino groups showed linear selectivities to hydrogen ion in the range of pH 1~pH 9, pH 2~pH 9, pH 3~pH 9 and pH 4~pH 9 and slopes were 48mV/pH, 52mV/pH, 64mV/pH, 59mV/pH respectively. The interferences effect on the cations were measured to alkali metal ions($Li^+$, $Na^+$, $K^+$), alkaline earth metal ions ($Mg^{2+}$, $Ca^{2+}$, $Sr^{2+}$, $Ba^{2+}$), transition metals ions($Cu^{2+}$, $Ni^{2+}$, $Co^{2+}$) and anions($I^-$, $Br^-$, ${NO_3}^-$, $SCN^-$), and selectivity coefficients were measured by separate-solution method. The membrane electrode made of TBMDA among the electrodes showed the best selectivity in acidic solution.

  • South Korea is the northernmost distributional territory on the Camellietea japonicae (evergreen broad-leaved forests of the warm-temperate zone) in East Asia. A total of 40 stands were collected in terms of an ecologically-naturalized wild tea population (WTP), and their species composition was analyzed by $Z{\ddot{u}}rich$-Montpellier School's method with preliminary regard to forest canopy idendtification. Stand types were characterized by ecological flora's criteria such as Raunkiaer's life-form, neophyte, zonal distribution, and nativeness of species. Expansion of WTP distribution into the interior of the peninsula was recognized, than expected. The highest and northernmost WTPs have been recorded at Mt. Palgong, Daegu (390 m a.s.l.) and Iksan Jeonbuk (latitude $36^{\circ}$ 03' 33''), respectively. Altitudinal and latitudinal WTP distribution of Korea under continental climate shows lower than Japanese situation under oceanic climate. Community structure generally involved a few human interferences. Syngeographically WTP distribution was limited on the warm-temperate zone and the southernmost cool-temperate southern submontane zone. First driving force on distributional expansion of the WTP was anthropogenic, particularly in the northernmost distribution area. We finally confirmed an actual existence of the WTP in South Korea and suggested a long-term monitoring on the WTPs in national view of in-situ genetic resources with higher frost-resistance.

  • When an RFID reader attempts to read tags, interference might occur if the neighboring readers also attempt to communicate with the same tag at the same time or the neighboring readers use the same frequency at the same time. These interferences cause the RFID reader collision. When the RFID reader collision occirs, either the command from the reader can not be transmitted to the tags or the response from the tags can not be received by the reader correctly. RFID reader anti-collision algorithms have been developed to reduce it. One of the best blown reader anti-collision algorithms is the Colorwave algorithm proposed by MIT. The Colorwave algorithm reduces the reader collisions by having the readers operate at different times. In Colorwave the time is divided into frames and a frame is divided into a number of slots. Each reader can access the tags using the slot time assigned to it. Depending on the probability of the interference, the colorwave adjusts the frame size to improve the efficiency. In this paper, we analyze the operations and the performance of the Colorwave algorithm and identify the problems of the algorithm. We also show that by adding some modifications to the algorithm the performance can be improved significantly.

  • In this paper, we propose the sub-cell reuse partitioning among relays as an efficient resource reuse scheme in the relay-based OFDMA systems. If the frequency resource is reused among relays aggressively, we can increase the cell throughput. However, the interferences due to the frequency reuse may cause the fairness decrease due to the SINR degradation especially at the edge of RS sub-cells. In this paper, to make the cell throughput and fairness performance improved at the same time, we propose a sub-cell reuse partitioning scheme that divides a relay sub-cell into inner zone for aggressive reuse and outer zone for sparse reuse. The performance of the proposed scheme has been analyzed by computer simulation. We also applied a scheduling algorithm that can work together with the proposed sub-cell reuse partitioning scheme. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can improve both the throughput and the fairness performances. In particular, when the scheduling is applied for the improvement of fairness, it is shown that the throughput performance can be enhanced more efficiently by the proposed scheme.

  • The IBAC (In-Band Adjacent-Channel) DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) system is to provide multichannel CD quality audio services and multimedia data services including text and picture in FM band (88~105 MHz). As the FM band is being used by the existing analog radio broadcasting, there must he an analysis of the interference effect between IBAC DAB and analog FM signal. Therefore, the protection ratio should be evaluated to verify the system compatibility and allocate the new IBAC DAB channel in FM band. In this paper, among the three types of interferences, FM-to-DAB, DAB-to-FM and DAB-to-DAB, that can be occurred, the Protection ratio of IBAC DAB system for co-channel FM interferer is analyzed by modeling the FM interferer and considering the multipath fading channel. The simulation results show that IBAC DAB system has far better sensitivity than Eureka 147 and needs a relatively high protection ratio for co-channel FM interferer, because of its narrow bandwidth, about one third of that of Eureka 147.

  • A new effective and economic method was developed, removing interferences such as chlorophyll and lipid from leaves with small amounts of reagents and solvents in order to analyse PAHs(Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons). The extract from a soxhlet containing $4{\sim}5g$ of leaves and 100ml of dichlormethane and refluxed for 20 hrs was concentrated and eluted with 60ml of a hexane:dichloromethane (1:1) mixture through a column of 9mm wide inner diameter and 130mm long, packed from the bottom with 2.5g of $Al_2O_3$, 1.5g of $SiO_2$and 2g of anhydrous $Na_2SO_4$. The eluent was concentrated and loaded on a GPC column of 20mm wide inner diameter and 280mm long, packed with 12g of Bio-beads. The column was washed with 37ml of the hexane:dichloromethane(1:1) mixture. Another 43ml of the mixture was eluted as a PAH fraction and collected. This eluent was concentrated under gentle nitrogen to $50{\mu}l$ and analysed using GC-MS. The recoveries, obtained by comparing with the amounts of the internal standards of deuterated PAHs were $43.3{\sim}107.5%$(RSD $2.2{\sim}9.5%$).

  • The formation of Mo(VI)-alizarin red S chelate ion its extraction into an organic solvent by ion-pairing for the separarive determination of trace Mo(VI) in natural water was applied in seawater samples. Removed Fe(III) and Zn(II), and Cu(II) by precipitating with anthranilic acid at pH 4.0 and 2.0, seawater 100mL was sampled in 250mL separatory funnel. After Mo(VI)-ARS chelate ion was formed by adding 0.01M alizarin red S solution 1.0mL to the water sample of pH 4.6, 0.6% aliquat-336 chloroform solution 10mL was added and the solution was vigorously shaked for about 30 seconds to form the ion-pair between Mo(VI)-ARS and aliquat-336 perfectly. The solution was stood for about 30 minutes. And the organic phase was taken for the absorbance measurement of the ion-pair at 520nm. The content of Mo(VI) was obtained from the standard calibration curve. Several extraction conditions such as pH, adding amounts of alizarin red S and aliquat-336, and shaking and standing times were optimized and the interferences and release of concomitant ions was also studied. This procedure was applied to the analysis of Eastern and Yellow seawaters. It could be confirmed from the recoveries of over 85% in samples spiked with a given amount of Mo(VI) that this method was also quantitative in the determination of trace Mo(VI) in a seawater.

  • The purpose on this study was to develop a new improved chromatographic method for determination of trace phenols from environmental waste water. The research was carried out with selected 8 phenols, and solid-phase extraction was employed as sample pretreatment method. The coupling of XAD-4 and Dowex $1{\times}8$ resin as preconcentration column increased the selectivities toward interferences coexisted in matrix. Automation was accomplished with on-line process of pretreatment and HPLC system. After elution of sample through XAD-4 column, phenols were adsorbed by dispersion force, then displaced from it by ACN basified, simultaneously and selectively readsorbed via anion exchange on Dowex $1{\times}8$. Dowex $1{\times}8$ column was washed by water. Phenols readsorbed were removed from Dowex $1{\times}8$ column by a minimum volumn of methanol containing HCl. Each pretreatment step was connected by switching valves and the eluate was directly on-line injected to obtain fast and reliable results into the HPLC. Recovery of phenols was greater than 90%. To examine utility of this method, analysis of phenols from laboratory waste water sample which was added some organic pollutants to find with phenols on environmental waste water were also accomplished without their interference effects.

  • Methods to determine terbium(III) ion in aqueous solution by measuring the enhanced fluorescence intensity of terbium(III)-terephthalic acid(TPA) complex ion have been studied. The optimum analytical conditions for pH, excitation wavelength and concentration of TPA were found to be 6.0, 260nm and $4.0{\times}10^{-4}M$, respectively. The fluorescence intensity of the terbium(III) complex ion was further increased with addition of trioctylphosphine oxide (TOPO). In this case Triton X-100 was used to dissolve TOPO in aqueous solution. When TOPO was used, the optimum analytical conditions for pH, excitation wavelength, and concentrations of TPA, TOPO and Triton X-100 were found to be 4.5, 285nm. $4.0{\times}10^{-4}M$, $5.0{\times}10^{-5}M$, and 0.05%, respectively. Under the optimum experimental conditions, calibration curve for Tb(III) was linear over the range from $4.0{\times}10^{-8}M$ to $4.0{\times}10^{-5}M$ and the detection limit was $4.0{\times}10^{-8}M$. When TOPO was used, the concentration range of linear response, and the detection limit were $4.0{\times}10^{-9}M$ to $2.0{\times}10^{-6}M$, and $4.0{\times}10^{-9}M$, respectively. Effects of interferences from various cations for the determination of terbium(III) ion were also investigated.

  • To determine ionic species in snowpit samples using ion chromatography system, we described the performance of ion chromatography(IC) system, cleaning method of bottle, and interference by filtering procedure. The limit of detection, reproducibilities, and accuracies determined with BCR$^{(R)}$-408 were 0.01-0.26 ${\mu}g$/L, 0.4-17.4%, 4.5-12.0% for cations and 0.02-0.26 ${\mu}g/L$, 0.1-27.6%, 1.3-5.6% for anions, respectively. Lab blank test for sample bottle indicated that $CH_3CO_2{^-}$, $HCO_2{^-}$, and $NH_4{^+}$ can be easily contaminated in the lab environment. The positive interferences of $NO_3{^-}$ were partly attributed to the cleaning method of bottle. The filtering of melted snow sample should be carefully applied because it can positively affect the concentration levels of some ionic species. Finally, this method was applied to measure ionic species in snowpit samples from the upward area near NEEM camp and the uncertainties of measurement data of $F^-$ were also estimated.
