Based on the principle of complementary energy, an analytical method is developed which focused on the end effects for determining thermal stress distributions in the claded beam. This method gives the stress distributions which completely satisfy the stress-free boundary condition at the edge. Numerical result shows that shear stress and peeling stress at the interface between the substrate and clad are significant near the edge and become negligible in the interior region. Even though the relative location where the maximum or minimum stresses take place moves to interior as the length of the beam become smaller, the absolute location from the free end and the value of these stresses are the same in spite of the variation of the length of beam.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of mechanical and thermal fatigue stress on the shear, tensile and shear-tensile combined bond strengths(SBS, TBS, CBS) in various orthodontic brackets bonded to human premolars with chemically cured adhesive(Ortho-one, Bisco, USA). Five types of commercially available metal brackets with various bracket base configurations of Photoetched base(Tomy, Japan), Non-Etched Foil Mesh base(Dentaurum, Germany), Micro-Etched Foil Mesh base(Ortho Organizers, USA), Chessboard base(Daesung, Korea), and Integral base(3M Unitek, USA) were used. Samples were divided into 3 groups, the first group was acted with shear-tensile combined loads($45^{\circ}$) of 200g for 4 weeks(mechanical fatigue stress), the second group was subjected to the 5,000 thermocycles of 15 second dwell time each in $5^{\circ}C\;and\;55^{\circ}C$ baths(thermal fatigue stress), and the third group was the control. Bond strengths were measured at the crosshead speed of 0.5mm/min. The cross-section of bracket base/adhesive interface and the fracture surface were examined with the stereoscope and the scanning electron microscope. The resin remnant on bracket base surface was assessed by ART(Adhesive Remnant Index). The obtained results were summarized as follows, 1. In static bond strength, Photoetched base bracket showed the maximum bond strength and Integral base bracket showed the minimum bond strength(p<0.05). In all brackets, shear bond strength(SBS) was in the greatest value and shear-tensile combined strength(CBS) was in the least value(p<0.05). 2. After mechanical fatigue test, Photoetched base bracket showed the maximum bond strength and Integral base bracket showed the minimum bond strength(p<0.05). In Photoetched base bracket and Micro-Etched Foil Mesh base bracket, shear bond strength(SBS), tensile bond strength(TBS) and shear-tensile combined strength(CBS) were decreased after mechanical fatigue test(p
Over the past couple decades, externally bonded fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composites have emerged as a repair and strengthening material for many concrete infrastructure applications. This paper presents an analytical investigation of the use of carbon FRP (CFRP) for a specific problem that occurs in concrete bridge girders wherein the girder ends are damaged by excessive exposure to deicing salts and numerous freezing/thawing cycles. A 3D finite element (FE) model of a full scale prestressed concrete (PC) I-girder is used to investigate the effect of damage to the cover concrete and stirrups in the end region of the girder. Parametric studies are performed using externally bonded CFRP shear laminates to determine the most effective repair schemes for the damaged end region under a short shear span-to-depth ratio. Experimental results on shear pull off tests of CFRP laminates that have undergone accelerated aging are used to calibrate a bond stress-slip model for the interface between the FRP and concrete substrate and approximate the reduced bond stress-slip properties associated with exposure to the environment that causes this type of end region damage. The results of these analyses indicate that this particular application of this material can be effective in recovering the original strength of PC bridge girders with damaged end regions, even after environmental aging.

The purposes of the paper are to calculate stresses and strains of the disk with overcoating layer rotating quickly under normal loading and shear loading by contacting with head and to present material properties preventing the delamination between the disk and overcoating layer. The hard disk is modeled as two-layered disk composed with overcoating layer and the rest layers and the loading onto the disk is assumed axisymmetric. Solutions to equilibrium equations and compatibility equations are derived with the form of polynimial and Bessel function and coefficients satisfying boundary conditions are obtained differently for the case of body force, normal force and shear force. The risk of delamination are investigated for us to calculate the differences of strains at the interface between the disk and overcoating layer and the material properties preventing delamination are presented by calculating the differences of strains according to Young's modulus and density of disk.
In this study, a detail design was conducted for KSLV-1 1st stage Rear Fuselage Upper Compartment assembly. A basic structural sizing was done by the aircraft fuselage sizing in-house program. The frame structural design and the interface check were conducted by the FE and the CAD program. The structural margin of safety was conformed by FE analysis for the normal section model and duct cut-out section models which are the weakest parts of the rear fuselage. The shear stress analysis was performed for a fastener design of the skin-stringer which is most affected by the shear stress induced by the shear load.

In this study, stress-displacement analytic solutions are obtained by a shear lag modeling method constructed for the spliced joint area with a splicing gap in the fiber metal laminate (FML). This gap can be empty or be filled with an adhesive material of elastic modulus $E_a$. Two splicing types are considered for spliced shear models, one for spliced in the center metal layer, the other for spliced in the outer metal layer. It is shown that from the viewpoint of the load transfer efficiency and the avoidability of disbond generation due to the shear and axial stresses at the interface between metal layer and composite layer of the gap-front in the spliced area, the center spliced type (k=2) is much preferable to the outer spliced type (k=1).
The flexural strengthening of reinforced concrete beams by external bonding of composite materials has proved to be an efficient and practical technique. This paper presents a study on the flexural performance of reinforced concrete continuous beams with three spans (one span and two cantilevered) strengthened by bonding carbon fiber fabric (CFRP). The model is based on equilibrium and deformations compatibility requirements in and all parts of the strengthened continuous beam, i.e., the continuous concrete beam, the FRP plate and the adhesive layer. The adherend shear deformations have been included in the present theoretical analyses by assuming a linear shear stress through the thickness of the adherends. Remarkable effect of shear deformations of adherends has been noted in the results. The theoretical predictions are compared with other existing solutions that shows good agreement, and It shows the effectiveness of CFRP strips in enhancing shear capacity of continuous beam. It is shown that both the normal and shear stresses at the interface are influenced by the material and geometry parameters of the composite beam.
The analytical solution of two functionally graded layers with Volterra type screw dislocation is investigated under anti-plane shear impact loading. The energy dissipation of FGM layers is modeled by viscous damping and the properties of the materials are assumed to change exponentially along the thickness of the layers. In this study, the rate of gradual change ofshear moduli, mass density and damping constant are assumed to be same. At first, the stress fields in the interface of the FGM layers are derived by using a single dislocation. Then, by determining a distributed dislocation density on the crack surface and by using the Fourier and Laplace integral transforms, the problem are reduce to a system ofsingular integral equations with simple Cauchy kernel. The dynamic stress intensity factors are determined by numerical Laplace inversion and the distributed dislocation technique. Finally, various examples are provided to investigate the effects of the geometrical parameters, material properties, viscous damping and cracks configuration on the dynamic fracture behavior of the interacting cracks.
The paper attempts to estimate the incubation time of a cavity in the interface between a power law creep particle and an elastic matrix subjected to a uniaxial stress. Since the power law creep particle is time dependent, the stresses in the interface relax. Through previous stress analysis related to the present physical model, the relaxation time is defined by ${\alpha}$2 which satisfies the equation $\Gamma$0 |1+${\alpha}$2k|m=1-${\alpha}$2 [19]. $\Gamma$0=2(1/√3)1+m($\sigma$$\infty$/2${\mu}$)m($\sigma$0/$\sigma$$\infty$tm) where $\sigma$$\infty$ is an applied stress, ${\mu}$ is a shear modulus of a matrix, $\sigma$$\infty$ is a material constant of a power law particle, $\sigma$=$\sigma$0 $\varepsilon$ and t elapsed time. the volume free energy associated with Helmholtz free energy includes strain energies associated with Helmholtz free energy includes strain energies caused by applied stress anddislocations piled up in interface (DPI). The energy due to DPI is found by modifying the results of Dundurs and Mura[20]. The volume free energies caused by both applied stress and DPI are a function of the cavity size(${\gamma}$) and elapsed time(t) and arise from stress relaxation in the interface. Critical radius ${\gamma}$ and incubation time t to maximize Helmholtz free energy is found in present analysis. Also, kinetics of cavity fourmation are investigated using the results obtained by Riede[16]. The incubation time is defied in the analysis as the time required to satisfy both the thermodynamic and kinetic conditions. Through the analysis it is found that [1] strain energy caused by the applied stress does not contribute significantly to the thermodynamic and kinetic conditions of a cavity formation, 2) in order to satisfy both thermodynamic and kinetic conditions, critical radius ${\gamma}$ decreases or holds constant with increase of time until the kinetic condition(eq.40) is satisfied. Therefore the cavity may not grow right after it is formed, as postulated by Harris[11], and Ishida and Mclean[12], 3) the effects of strain rate exponent (m), material constant $\sigma$0, volume fraction of the particle to matrix(f) and particle size on the incubation time are estimated using material constants of the copper as matrix.

In this paper, the results of the direct shear interface friction test is introduced to understand interface friction between geosynthetic materials that are required for analyzing slope stability of the liner system of waste landfills. Tensile stresses that occur in a liner system due to differential settlement with waste load are estimated using FLAC. It was shown that HDPE/geocomposite inteface friction angle is 11.9$^{\circ}$, HDPE/wastes is 12.0$^{\circ}$ and geotextile/wastes is 28.0$^{\circ}$. Tensile stress due to settlement in a foundation of landfill is well within the limits of tensile strength regulated by waste treatment law.
