  • Due to new requirements of the automotive industry, concerning lightweight and non-corroding construction, new production methods, The Hot Air Forming process of aluminum alloys are of special interest. The disadvantage of aluminum alloy is the poorer formability compared to steel. The Hot Air Forming process is one of the forming process receiving recent attention. In the current study, Fabrication of aluminum rear subframe has been attempted using seam and seamless aluminum tubes. On the base of hot workability of the extruded tube and PAM-STAMP simulation results, Optimum condition for fabricating aluminum rear sub(lame parts by Hot Air Forming could be determined.

  • With the development of RAIM techniques for single failure, increasing interest has been shown in the multiple failure problem. As a result, numerous approaches have been used in attempts to tackle this problem. This paper considers the two failure problem with total least squares (TLS) technique, a solution that has rarely been addressed because TLS requires an immense number of computations. In this paper, the special form of the observation matrix H, (that is, one column is exactly known) is exploited so as to develop an algorithm in a sequential form, thereby reducing computational load. The algorithm permits the advantages of TLS without the excessive computational burden. The proposed algorithm is verified through a numerical simulation.

  • Biodevices composed of biomolecular layer have been developed in various fields such as medical diagnosis, pharmaceutical screening, electronic device, photonic device, environmental pollution detection device, and etc. The biomolecules such as protein, DNA and pigment, and cells have been used to construct the biodevices such as biomolecular diode, biostorage device, bioelectroluminescence device, protein chip, DNA chip, and cell chip. Substantial interest has focused upon thin film fabrication or the formation of biomaterials mono- or multi-layers on the solid surfaces to construct the biodevices. Based on the development of nanotechnology, nanoscale fabrication technology for biofilm has been emerged and applied to biodevices due to the various advantages such as high density immobilization and orientation control of immoblized biomolecules. This review described the nanoscale fabrication of biomolecular film and its application to bioelectronic devices and biochips.

  • GERT modeling is in a dynamic stage of development. One of the most exciting and useful new developments in GERT modeling and Simulation is the modeling technology and computer package called Q-GERT. As the name implies, this provides the capability to analyze complex networks of queueing systems. The modeling approach is quite similar to GERT, but includes queue nodes called 'Select' nodes, which allow a considerable amount of logic to be included in the analysis of complex networks of multichannel, multiphase queueing systems should find the Q-OERT package of considerable interest.

  • The KOMPSAT-2 MSC(Multi-Spectral Camera), with high spatial resolution, is currently under development and will be launched in the end of 2004. A sensor model relates a 3-D ground position to the corresponding 2-D image position and describes the imaging geometry that is necessary to reconstruct the physical imaging process. The Rational Function Model (RFM) has been considered as a generic sensor model. form. The RFM is technically applicable to all types of sensors such as frame, pushbroom, whiskbroom and SAR etc. With the increasing availability of the new generation imaging sensors, accurate and fast rectification of digital imagery using a generic sensor model becomes of great interest to the user community. This paper describes the procedure to generation of the RPC (Rational Polynomial Coefficients) for KOMPSAT-2 MSC.

  • There has been continuing interest in the development of synthetic and natural compounds that modify the immune response particularly for the treatment of AIDS and cancer. During the past fifty years, numerous scientific studies have been published on ginseng. Modem human studies have investigated preventive effect of ginseng on several kinds of cancer, its long term immunological effect on HIV patients, its effect on cell mediated immune functions in healthy volunteers. Similarly non clinical studies on animal model system have studied the chemopreventive action of ginseng on cancer and immunological properties of ginseng. The precise mechanism of action of ginseng, however, not clearly understood. Considering its wide-ranging therapeutic effects, this study is being undertaken to elucidate the general mode of action of ginseng, especially to test our hypothesis that its biological action may be mediated by the immune system.

  • Since the end of the Cold War, debate about the grand struggle between capitalism and communism has been largely replaced by debate about religious sectarianism. Some have even referred to a "clash of civilizations" in the wake of the spread of Islamic fundamentalism. This is in fact an old debate, but it has been given new life by arguments about globalization and economic development as envisioned by the West, and especially by the terrorist attacks in New York on September 11, 2001. While the political right has had little difficulty treating religious belief as a fundamental human and social interest, much of the political left has remained committed to secular Enlightenment, even when it criticizes the hegemony of the West. The dispute depends upon competing notions of history, secularism, and progress, and ultimately on the possibility or desirability of universal solidarity. While for many a world unified by one religion may no longer make sense, the old Enlightenment dream that a single version of secular and universal reason will eventually prevail over religious difference may also need to be reconsidered. The process that we call secularization is neither as singular, nor as transparent, as we might think.

  • There has been extensive interest in the development of new nanocomposites. One kind of these systems is the hybrid based on organic polymers and inorganic minerals consisting of layered silicates. Some properties like stiffness, strength, barrier properties, thermal, and oxidative stability can be improved by the presence of the filler in the polymeric matrix[1]. It is reported that, in the nylon 6/clay nanocomposites, the modulus is increased, but impact strength and elongation at break are drastically decreased. (omitted)

  • An ink jetting measurement system has been developed such that the velocity as well as the volume of ink droplets can be measured. In order to measure the ink droplet, a strobe LED light was synchronized to the droplet firing signal in order to obtain frozen droplet images. Then, a LabVIEW based software was developed for the analysis of the droplet image. For the efficient droplet analysis, a user generated rectangular shaped ROI (Region of Interest) was used. By using ROI, the ink droplet image can be easily isolated from the other structures such as printhead and the processing area can be minimized.

  • The spectral color resolution of an image is very important in color image analysis. Two factors influencing the spectral color resolution of an image are illumination intensity and lens aperture for a selected vision system. An optimal combination of illumination intensity and lens aperture for color image analysis was determined in the study. The method was based on a model of dynamic range defined as the absolute difference between digital values of selected foreground and background color in the image. The role of illumination intensity in machine vision was also described and a computer program for simulating the optimal combination of two factors was implemented for verifying the related algorithm. It was possible to estimate the non-saturating range of the illumination intensity (input voltage in the study) and the lens aperture by using a model of dynamic range. The method provided an optimal combination of the illumination intensity and the lens aperture, maximizing the color resolution between colors of interest in color analysis, and the estimated color resolution at the combination for a given vision system configuration.
