  • The purpose of this study is to develop a systematic tool which can reduce the abstractness of the structured programming disciplines by a system. The system is an interactive software which forces the user to think and write software in a hierarchical stepwise refinement fashion for an implementation of the software design. The program produced by the system has a program control structure and a logic flow which are very easy to recognize. The modification of a program is, therefore, easier to attain by altering the specifications of the modules involved. It is possible to reduce the programming errors because of those characteristics.

  • The measuring point data of clay model are widely used to design parts whose external features are important design factor such as automobiles and general die products. This paper presents a method for improving the process to generate smooth surfaces from the measuring point data using turnkey CAD/CAM system. The process of smooth-surface generation involves several steps: styline finding, curve fairing, surface generation and filleting. The process is improved by automatic curve fairing, local correction of surface and multi-boundary surface treatment. An automobile bumper and a telephone receiver are measured and modeled to test the new method. Significant time saving is resulted by changing interactive mode to automatic mode and eliminating inefficient loop of surface generation process.

가상현실 자전거 시뮬레이터에서 시각화 네트워크 (Networked Visualization for a Virtual Bicycle Simulator)

  • This paper presents the visualization method of the KAIST interactive bicycle simulator. The simulator consists of two bicycles of 6 DOF and 4 DOF platforms, force feedback handlebars and pedal resistance systems to generate motion feelings; a real-time visual simulator, a HMD and a beam projection system; and a 3D sound system. The system has an integrating control network with the server-client network structure for multiple simulators. The visual simulator generates dynamic images in real-time while communicating with other modules of the simulator. The operator of the simulator can have realistic visual experience of riding on a velodrome or through the KAIST campus, while being able to watch the other bicycle with an avatar.

  • This paper presents web service and service on mobile phone about research on virtual URS(Ubiquitous Robotic Space). We modeled the URS. Then, we find the location of robot in the virtual URS on web and mobile phone. We control the robot view with mobile phone. This paper addresses the concept of virtual URS and introduces interaction between robot in the virtual URS and human using web and mobile phone service. Then, this paper introduces a case of service on mobile phone.

  • KEPRI successfully developed and installed RTDS(Real-Time Digital Simulator) during March 2001. The simulator will be used to study interactive simulation of electromagnetic & electromechanical and validation of protective & control systems. In this paper. the authors will present an overview of real-time digital simulator and its characteristic features. Special emphasis will be placed to the installation test results. This paper also addresses some key issues on the accuracy, reliability flexibility and its practical uses for real-time power simulation.

  • 영화나 애니메이션의 초기 제작 단계에서 스토리보드는 줄거리를 시각적으로 설명하기 위해 사용된다. 스토리 보드는 스토리의 텍스트 뿐 아니라 사람과 사물의 배치, 카메라 위치 등의 설정을 위해 그림이나 사진을 사용되기도 한다. 본 논문에서는 스토리보드 제작을 용이하게 그리고 직관적이 되도록 하기 위하여 증강현실 기반의 스토리보드 시스템을 제안한다. 본 시스템을 사용하면 경험이 없는 사용자라도 미리 만들어진 3차원 모델을 사용하여 사용자 자신의 실제 환경에서 모델들을 배치하고 애니메이션을 실행시킬 뿐 아니라 카메라의 위치와 방향까지도 제어할 수 있다.

  • This paper proposes a new method for image composition which estimates the rotation angle of human hand and uses the reserved image in real-time camera images. First, we capture a background image and extract a interesting region by background subtraction. Next, we estimate the skin region from the interesting region and calculate the rotation angle of estimated skin region using PCA(Principal Components Analysis). Finally, we composite the reserved image for the calculated rotation angle in camera images. The proposed method can be applied to control the 3D avatar for marker-less augmented reality.

  • In this paper, we modeled a virtual life (VL) that react to the user's action according to its own behavioral characteristics and grows itself. We established some conditions with which such a VL is designed. Genetic Algorithm is used for the growth process that changes the VL's properties. In this process, the parameter values of the VL's properties are encoded as ore chromosome, and the GA operations change this chromosome. The VL's reaction to the user's action is determined by these properties as well as the general expectation of each reaction.   • This paper describes a robot simulator which enables a user to model a robot geometrically, and to evaluate performances of various robot control algorithms as well as to obtain physical understanding of robot and acruator dynamics. To achieve these goals, the kinematics and dynamics of a robot and interactive 3-D computer graphics which visulaize the motion of the robot were studied. The developed robot simulator consists of two parts:a dynamic simulator and a graphic simulator. To evaluate the robot simulator PUMA-560, Stanford arm, and RHINO robot were considered and a DG MV/10000 super mini-computer and an IBM-PC/XT personal computer were used.

Cell-Interactive Polymers for Tissue Engineering

  • Tissue engineering is one exciting approach to treat patients who need a new organ or tissue. A critical element in this approach is the polymer scaffold, as it provides a space for new tissue formation and mimics many roles of natural extra-cellular matrices. In this review, we describe several design parameters of polymer matrices that can significantly affect cellular behavior, as well as various polymers which are frequently used to date or potentially useful in many tissue engineering applications. Interactions between cells and polymer scaffolds, including specific receptor-ligand interactions, physical and degradation feature of the scaffolds, and delivery of soluble factors, should be considered in the design and tailoring of appropriate polymer matrices to be used in tissue engineering applications, as these interactions control the function and structure of engineered tissues.
