  • The popularity of augmented reality (AR) applications and games are in high demand. Currently, the best common platform to implement AR services is on a smartphone, as online games, navigators, personal assistants, travel guides are among the most popular applications of smartphones. However, the power consumption of an AR application is extremely high, and therefore, highly adaptable and dynamic low power control schemes must be used. Dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS) schemes are widely used in smartphones to minimize the energy consumption by controlling the device's operational frequency and voltage. DVFS schemes can sometimes lead to longer response times, which can result in a significant problem for AR applications. In this paper, an AR response time monitor is used to observe the time interval between the AR image input and device's reaction time, in order to enable improved operational frequency and AR application process priority control. Based on the proposed response time monitor and the characteristics of the Linux kernel's completely fair scheduler (CFS) (which is the default scheduler of Android based smartphones), a response time step control (RSC) scheme is proposed which adaptively adjusts the CPU frequency and interactive application's priority. The experimental results show that RSC can reduce the energy consumption up to 10.41% compared to the ondemand governor while reliably satisfying the response time performance limit of interactive applications on a smartphone.

  • Creating controllable, responsive avatars is an important problem in computer games and virtual environments. Recently, large collections of motion capture data have been exploited for increased realism in avatar animation and control. Large motion sets have the advantage of accommodating a broad variety of natural human motion. However, when a motion set is large, the time required to identify an appropriate sequence of motions is the bottleneck for achieving interactive avatar control. In this paper, we present a novel method for training avatar behaviors from unlabelled motion data in order to animate and control avatars at minimal runtime cost. Based on machine learning technique, called Q-teaming, our training method allows the avatar to learn how to act in any given situation through trial-and-error interactions with a dynamic environment. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach through examples that include avatars interacting with each other and with the user.

  • We propose Tangible Media Control System (TMCS), which allows users to manipulate media contents with physical objects in an intuitive way. Currently, most people access digital media contents by exploiting GUI. However, It provides limited manipulations of the media contents. The proposed system, instead of mouse and keyboard, adopts two types of tangible objects, i.e RFID-enabled object and tracker-embedded object. The TMCS enables users to easily access and control digital media contents with the tangible objects. In addition, it supports an interactive media controller which users can synthesize media contents and generate new media contents according to users' taste. It also offers personalized contents, which is suitable for users' preferences, by exploiting context such as user's profile and situational information. Therefore. the proposed system can be applied to various interactive applications such as multimedia education, entertainment and multimedia editor.

  • Purpose : This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a sea breeze walking program by analyzing the metabolic disease-related, immune-inflammation-related, and respiratory health-related variables of the test subjects associated with improved respiratory health. Methods : In the experiment, 30 patients with metabolic diseases were divided into an experimental group (n=15) and a control group (n=15). The experimental group walked on the Namparang-gil, Geoje trail, while the control group walked on the Hoeya-cheon, Yangsan trail. Both groups participated in the same walking program for two hours, twice a week for four weeks. Thereafter, the metabolic disease-related, immune inflammation-related, and respiratory health-related variables were measured and compared between the two groups. Results : After the four-week sea breeze walking program, in terms of changes in the metabolic disease-related variable, a statistically significant interactive effect was found in waist circumference (p<.001). The experimental group showed a significant decrease in waist circumference after the program. After the four-week sea breeze walking program, the control group showed a statistically higher increase in lactic acid (p.<05), whereas the experimental group exhibited a decrease in lactic acid. For the respiratory health-related variables, no statistically significant differences were found after the sea breeze walking program. However, the experimental group showed an increase in FEV1,while the control group showed a decrease in FEV1. For the maximum oxygen intake, no statistically significant interactive differences were found but there was a statistically significant effect in time (p<.05). The two groups exhibited an increase in maximum oxygen intake. Conclusion : After the sea breeze walking program, positive physical changes were observed in the metabolic disease-related and immune inflammation-related variables.

  • In the fuzzy control for the multi-variable system, it is difficult to obtain the fuzzy rule. Therefore, the parallel structure of the independent single input-single output fuzzy controller using a pairing between the input and output variable is applied to the multi-variable system. The concept of relative gain matrix is used to obtain the input-output pairs. However, among the input/output variables which are not paired the interactive effects should be taken into account. these mutual coupling of variables affect the control performance. Therefore, for the control system with a strong coupling property, the control performance is sometimes lowered. In this paper, the effect of mutual coupling of variables is considered by tile introduction of a simple compensator. This compensator adjusts the degree of coupling between variables using a neural network. In this proposed neuro-fuzzy controller, the Neural network which is realized by back-propagation algorithm, adjusts the mutual coupling weight between variables.

  • The vibrational intensity and the dynamic response of a compound vibratory system had been controlled actively by means of a feedforward control method. A compound vibratory system consists of a flexible beam and two discrete systems - a vibrating source and a dynamic absorber. By considering the interactive motions between discrete systems and a flexible beam, the equations of motion for a compound vibratory system were derived using a method of variation of parameters. To define the optimal conditions of a controller the cost function, which denotes a time averaged power flow, was evaluated numerically. The possibility of reductions of both of vibrational intensity and dynamic response at a control point located at a distance from a source were fecund to depend on the positions of a source, a control point and a controller. Especially the presence of a dynamic absorber gives the more reduction on the dynamic response but the less on the vibrational intensity than those without a dynamic absorber.

  • Recently interactive water fountains are gaining popularity in making public facilities in South Korea. The total number of interactive fountains is rapidly growing at the rate of >50% annually. In this study, we performed quantitative microbial risk assessment to estimate infection risks in children by Legionella spp. while playing in interactive fountains. The exposure dose for a given concentration of Legionella in water was calculated using water-aerosol partition rate of Legionella, exposure duration, inhalation rate, and deposit rate of aerosols in the lungs following inhalation. The dose was converted to infection risk by using the dose-response function developed for L. pneumophila. High weight and/or old children, i.e., 12-year children, running around in fountains were the highest risk group by showing >0.05 infection probability for fountain waters containing ${\geq}10^4$ CFU/L Legionella. The result supported the current guideline by Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which permits use of water with < $10^3$ CFU/L Legionella cells for all purposes. However, the results still warrant further evaluation of the guideline to accommodate risks for children because the dose-response relationship in the model was developed for healthy adults. Further risk assessment studies need to be conducted by employing dose-response model for children who generally carries weaker immune system than adults.

  • In this paper, a grid-interactive photovoltaic (PV) system with the function of the power quality improvement is presented. The proposed system requires only one current-controlled voltage source inverter, which control the current flow at low total harmonic distortion and unity power factor, as well as simultaneously provide reactive power support. The proposed system operation has been divided into two modes (sunny and night). In night mode, the system operates to compensate the reactive power demanded by nonlinear or variation in loads. In sunny mode, the system performs power quality control (PQC) to reduce harmonic current and to improve power factor as well as maximum power point tracking (MPPT) to supply active power from the PV arrays, simultaneously. To verify the proposed system a comprehensive evaluation included simulation and experimental results are presented.

  • A digital preview controller is designed for tandem cold mills to achieve a more improvement of the thickness accuracy. Simultaneously a blocked noninteracting controller is synthesized for rejecting the interactive effects among adjacent stands and for controlling independently each roll stand of tandem cold mills. The performance effects and characteristics of the suggested roll contol system are discussed in the practical viewpoint. The simulaltion results show that the thickness accuracy of tandem cold mills can be largely improved by the blocked noninteracting and digital preview controller.

  • This study was performed to find the most desirable emission reduction for each mobile source pollutant and the optimal control strategy at a given level of expenditures in Pusan City in 2000 by using the interactive s-constraint method developed by Chang-Hyo Lee and Hyung-Wook Kim, which isone of the mathematical programming models. The most desirable emission reduction is 7093 ton/year for particulate (TSP), 4871 ton/year for NOx, 5148 ton/year for HC and 36779 ton/year for CO. The optimal control strategy is as follows; 1. As to passenger car and taxi, limiting VKT (vehicle kilometers travelled) in congested areas will be necessary. In addition to this, improving vehicie inspection Program should be enforced. 2. As to small-gasoline bus, traffic adaptive control system will be necessary. 3. As to small-diesel bus, non-adjustable engine parameters will have to be applied. .4. As to heal bus and heart truck, catalytic trap oxidizer and limiting VKT in congested areas will do necessary. 5. As to motorcycle, 2-cycle motorcycles should be converted to 4-cycle motorcycles.
