  • The study presents structural integrity assessment of ductility degradation of a baffle former assembly by performing finite element analysis considering real loading conditions and stress triaxiality. Variations of fracture strain curves of type 304 austenitic stainless steel with stress triaxiality are derived based on the previous study results. Temperature distributions during normal operation such as heat-up, steady state, and cool-down are calculated via finite element temperature analysis considering gamma heating and heat convection with reactor coolant. Variations of stress and strain state during long operation period are also calculated by performing sequentially coupled temperature-stress analysis. Fracture strain is derived by using the fracture curve and the stress triaxility. Finally, variations of ductility degradation damage indicator with the fracture strain and the equivalent inelastic strain are investigated. It is found that maximum value of the ductility degradation damage index continuously increases and becomes 0.4877 at 40 EFPYs. Also, the maximum value occurs at top and middle inner parts of the baffle former assembly before and after 20 EFPYs, respectively.

  • During the last decade, possibility of flaw occurrences has been rapidly increased world-widely as the increase of operating times of petro-chemical facilities. For instance, from a recent in-service inspection, three different sized surface cracks were detected in welding parts of a spherical oxygen holder in Korea. While API579 code provides corresponding engineering assessment procedures to determine crack driving forces, in the present work, numerical analyses are carried out for the cracked oxygen holder to investigate effects of complex geometry, analysis model and residual stress. With regard to the detailed finite element analysis, stress intensity factors are determined from both the full three-dimensional model and equivalent plate model. Also, as an alternative, stress intensity factors are calculated for equivalent plate model by employing the noted influence stress function technique. Finally, parametric structural integrity evaluation of the cracked oxygen holder is conducted in use of failure assessment diagram method, J/T method and DPFAD method. Effects of the geometry and so forth are examined and key findings from the simulations are fully discussed, which enables to determine practical safety margins of spherical components containing a defect.

  • Modern society has been experiencing by population growth and urbanization that bring, a change of eating habits which has occurred a various types of waste in a large amount. Even though these wastes are required an immediate treatment with difficulties unsanitary handling and existing waste treatment method are by incineration, fermentation, drying and etc. however a bad smell occurs after the treatment that need's a lot of energy in processing organic wastes with high moisture contents and wasteful and inefficient problem. The strength assessment of the organic waste agitating vessel is required in terms of safety due to the differences of loading on the shaft that was treated by agitating the mixture of food waste. The damage of agitating axis is depended on steam pressure, temperature condition and the force moment that exerted by the food waste. Thus the strength assessment and stability evaluation are very important, especially to handle a hard waste. In this study the rotation capacity of agitation is about 5 tons considering general structural rolled steel pressure vessel strength and steam pressure. The purpose is to estimate the safety and strength evaluation for a agitator axis and impellers according to the rotating angle of the axis under the condition of the 3.2 ton capacity reactor.

  • FFP(Fitness For Purpose) type defect assessment methodologies based on ECA(Engineering Critical Analysis) have been established and are in use for the structural integrity evaluation of gas pipelines. ECA usually includes the fracture mechanics analysis, and it assumes that J-integral uniquely characterizes crack-tip stress-strain fields. However, it has been shown that it is not sufficient to characterize the crack-tip field under low levels of constraint with a single parameter. Since pipeline structures are made of ductile material, locally loaded in tension, cracks may experience low level of constraint, and therefore, J-dominance will be lost. For this reason, the level of constraint must be quantified to establish a precise assessment procedure for pipeline defects. The objective of this paper is to Investigate the fracture behavior of a crack in gas pipeline by quantifying the level of constraint. For this purpose, tensile tests and CTOD tests were performed at room temperature$(24^{\circ}C)$ and low temperature$(-40^{\circ}C)$ to obtain the material properties. J-Q analyses were performed for SENB and SENT specimens based on 2-D finite element analyses, in order to investigate the in-plane constraint effects on pipeline defects.

  • The army developed the ATCIS(Army Tactical Command Information System) for the battlefield information system with share the command control information through the realtime. The using the public key and the encryption equipment in the ATCIS is enough to the confidentiality, integrity. but, it is vulnerable about the availability with the zero day attack. In this paper, we implement the worm propagation simulation on the ATCIS infrastructure through the modelling on the ATCIS operation environment. We propose the countermeasures based on the results from the simulation.

  • Even though extensive researches have been performed for steam explosion due to their complex mechanisms and inherent uncertainties, establishment of severe accident management guidelines and strategies is one of state-of-the arts in nuclear industry. The goal of this research is primarily to examine effects of vessel failure modes and locations on nuclear facilities under typical steam explosion conditions. Both discrete and integrated models were employed from the viewpoint of structural integrity assessment of steel components and evaluation of the cracking and crushing in reinforced concrete structures. Thereafter, comparison of systematic analysis results was performed; despite the vessel failure modes were dominant, resulting maximum stresses at the all steel components were sufficiently lower than the corresponding yield strengths. Two failure criteria for the reinforced concrete structures such as the limiting failure ratio of concrete and the limiting strains for rebar and liner plate were satisfied under steam explosion conditions. Moreover, stresses of steel components and reinforced concrete structures were reduced with maximum difference of 12% when the integrated model was adopted comparing to those of discrete models.

  • Maintaining the integrity of the major equipment in nuclear power plants is critical to the safety of the structures. In particular, the soundness of the piping is a critical matter that is directly linked to the safety of nuclear power plants. Currently, the limit state of the piping design standard is plastic collapse, and the actual pipe failure is leakage due to a penetration crack. Actual pipe failure, however, cannot be applied to the analysis of seismic fragility because it is difficult to quantify. This paper proposes methods of measuring the failure strain and deformation angle, which are necessary for evaluating the quantitative failure criteria of the steel pipe elbow using an image measurement system. Furthermore, the failure strain and deformation angle, which cannot be measured using the conventional sensors, were efficiently measured using the proposed methods.

  • Managing and reusing knowledge in engineering and construction sectors can lead to greater competitive advantage, improved designs, and more effective management of constructed facilities. The use of Information Technology (IT) in design and construction can exploit strategic opportunities for new ways of integration, sharing and facilitating information and knowledge in any field of engineering. The integrating of separate areas of IT can be used to bring a group of experts and specialists in any field of engineering closer together by allowing them to communicate and exchange information and expertise that facilitate knowledge capture, sharing, and reuse. A lack of an advisory management system and a need to marshal all available data in a common format has indicated the need for an integrated engineering computing environment to investigate concrete repair problems. The research described in this paper is based upon an evaluation management system (EMS) which comprising a database management system (REPCON) alongside visualisation technologies and evaluation system (ECON) is developed to produce an innovative platform which will facilitate and encourage the development of knowledge in educational, evolution and evaluation modes of concrete repair. This allows us to create assessment procedures that will allow the current condition of the concrete structure and its components to be expressed numerically using a confidence level (CL) so as to take the best course of action in the repair and maintenance management. The explained rating system, which is related to structural integrity and serviceability of the structure, allows the confidence level to be determined by visual inspection and the descriptive information and pictures taken from an available REPair of CONcrete (REPCON) database.
