Deintercalation and Thermal Stability of Na-graphite Intercalation Compounds

  • Na alloyed graphite intercalation compounds with stage 1 and 2 were synthesized using the high temperature and pressure technique. Thermal stability and staging transitions of the compounds were investigated depending on heating rates. The thermal stability and temperature dependence of the deintercalation compounds were characterized using differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) analyzer. Enthalpy of formations were confirmed at temperatures between 25 and $500^{\circ}C$, depending on the various heating rates. The structure ions and interlayer spaces of the graphite were identified by X-ray diffraction (XRD). Diffractograms of stages with non-integral (00l) values were obtained in the thermal decomposition process, and stacking disorder defects and random stage modes were observed. The average value of the interlayer C-C bond lengths were found approximately $2.12{\AA}$ and $1.23{\AA}$ from the diffractions. Based on the stage transition, the degree of the deintercalaton has a inverse-linear relationship against the heating rate.

  • This paper proposes a Mamdani fuzzy PID controller for controlling a process with small dead time. The controller composes of a parallel structure of fuzzy PI controller and fuzzy PD controller. Each controller has two inputs, error and change of error. Hence, the control signal of the proposed controller is the average value of the output of the fuzzy PI and PD controllers. The Mamdani fuzzy PID controller is easily to be adjusted to meet the desired control system performances both in transient state and steady state. The simulation results of the proposed Mamdani fuzzy PID controller by using the same parameters (proportional gain, integral time and derivative time) as the conventional PID controller are shown.   • Using coherence theory, the partially coherent flat-topped vortex hollow beam is introduced. The analytical equation for propagation of a partially coherent flat-topped vortex hollow beam in turbulent atmosphere is derived, using the extended Huygens-Fresnel diffraction integral formula. The influence of coherence length, beam order N, topological charge M, and structure constant of the turbulent atmosphere on the average intensity of this beam propagating in turbulent atmosphere are analyzed using numerical examples.

  • In performing the dynamic analysis, the step size used in a step-by-step integration method might be much smaller than that required by the accuracy consideration in order to capture the rapid chances of dynamic loading or to eliminate the linearization errors. It was first found by Chen and Robinson that these difficulties might be overcome by integrating the equations of motion with respect to time once. A further study of this technique is conducted herein. This include the theoretical evaluation and comparison of the capability to capture the rapid changes of dynamic loading if using the constant average acceleration method and its integral form and the exploration of the superiority of the time integration to reduce the linearization error. In addition, its advantage in the solution of the impact problems or the wave propagation problems is also numerically demonstrated. It seems that this time integration technique can be applicable to all the currently available direct integration methods.

EWM-MR chart for individual measurements in start-up process (초기공정에서 개별관측치를 이용한 EWM-MR 관리도)

  • In start-up process control applications it may be necessary to limit the sample size to one measurement. A control chart for individual measurements is used whenever it is desirable to examine each individual value from the process immediately. A possible option would be to use an exponential weighted moving(EWM), using modifying statistics with individual measurement, chart for monitoring the process center, and using a moving range (MR) chart for monitoring process variability. In this paper it is shown that there is scheme in using the EWM procedure based on average run length. An expression for the ARL is given in terms of an integral equation, approximated using numerical quadrature. In this case, where it is reasonable to assume normality and negligible autocorrelation in the observations, provide graphs that simplify the design of EWM-MR chart and taking method of exponential smoothing constant(λ) and constant(K) are suggested.   • In the paralleled converter module with peak current mode control, current imbalance appears when the voltage controllers with integral control of converter module are not exactly identical. In this paper, the voltage controller is designed to equal the current command of each converter module using the current command bus. The current balance controller is also proposed to balance the average currents of converter modules with imbalaced inductance. It is designed to have good transient response. Proposed method is implemented with the paralleled 2-module and 4-module boost converters with imbalanced inductance. Experimental results verify the performance of current share during both steady and transient states of converter.

Dynamics of thick hygrothermal viscoelastic composite laminates through finite element method

  • An uncoupled computational model for analyzing the hygrothermal dynamic response of composite laminates has been developed. The constitutive equations, expressed in an integral form, and involving relaxation moduli are adopted, to describe the non-aging hygrothermorheologically simple materials. A Prony series represents the relaxation moduli is exploited in order to derive a recursive relationship, and thereby eliminate the storage problem that arises when dealing with material possessing memory. The problem is formulated in a descritized variational form. Mindlin and higher order finite elements are employed for spatial descretization, while the Newmark average acceleration scheme is exploited for temporal descritization. The adopted recursive formula uses only the details of the previous event to compute the details of the current one. Numerical results of the displacement fields of both thin and thick viscoelastic laminates problems are discussed to show up the effectiveness of Mindlin and higher-order shear theories.

FPGA-based ARX-Laguerre PIO fault diagnosis in robot manipulator

  • The main contribution of this work is the design of a field programmable gate array (FPGA) based ARX-Laguerre proportional-integral observation (PIO) system for fault detection and identification (FDI) in a multi-input, multi-output (MIMO) nonlinear uncertain dynamical robot manipulators. An ARX-Laguerre method was used in this study to dynamic modeling the robot manipulator in the presence of uncertainty and disturbance. To address the challenges of robustness, fault detection, isolation, and estimation the proposed FPGA-based PI observer was applied to the ARX-Laguerre robot model. The effectiveness and accuracy of FPGA based ARX-Laguerre PIO was tested by first three degrees of the freedom PUMA robot manipulator, yielding 6.3%, 10.73%, and 4.23%, average performance improvement for three types of faults (e.g., actuator fault, sensor faults, and composite fault), respectively.

  • This paper proposes a method to select essential elements in a human evaluation model using the Choquet integral based on fuzzy measures and applies the model to the evaluation of human interface. Three kinds of concepts, Increment Degree, average of Increment Degree, Necessity coefficient, are defined. The proposed method selects essential elements by the use of the Relative necessity coefficient. The proposed method is applied to the analysis of human interface. In the experiment, (1) a warning sound, (2)a color vision, (3) the size of working area, (4) a response of confirmation, are considered as human interface elements. subjects answer the questionnarie after the experiment. From the data of questionnaire, fuzzy measures are identified and are applied to the proposed model. effectiveness of the proposed model is confirmed by the comparison of human interface elements extracted from the proposed model and those from the questionnarie.

  • This paper presents the on-line current controller tuning method of grid-connected inverter using PSO(particle swarm optimization) technique for minimizing the harmonic current. Synchronous frame PI current regulator is commonly used in most distributed generation. However, due to the source voltage distortion, specially in weak AC power system, current may contain large harmonic components, which increase THD(total harmonic distortion) and deteriorates power quality. Therefore, some tuning method is necessary to improve response of current controller. This paper used the PSO technique to tune the current regulator and through simulation and experiments, usefulness of the tuning method has been verified. Especially in simulating the tuning process, ASM(average switching model) of inverter is used to shorten execution time.
