Attitudes toward target language culture and motivation have been known as important factors in second or foreign language learning. In this study, cadets' attitudes toward the target language community and culture were investigated to find out any relationships with English achievement. Integrative or instrumental motivation in foreign military context was investigated to determine which motivation was more positively related to English proficiency. Cadets' responses were shown highly positive and internally consistent in most cases. Military cadets' attitudes toward American culture were statistically significant and could predict their English achievement. Even though integrative motivation was statistically significant, correlation with English achievement was low. However, instrumental motivation was not significant. This result implies that attitudes toward culture is an important factor in foreign language learning and integrative-instrumental motivation dichotomy might not be enough to explain specific context like cadets' English learning situation at Korea Army Academy at Youngcheon.

The purpose of this study is to examine the compensatory role of instrumental (e.g., product information) and aesthetic (e.g., website background) online cues presented within apparel websites where touch is unavailable. The moderating role of two need for touch (NFT) dimensions (i.e., autotelic and instrumental NFT) between online cues and consumer responses was also investigated. Results demonstrate that personal differences in autotelic and instrumental NFT moderate the relationship between online cues and affective responses. It was found that consumers high in autotelic NFT (i.e., who need to touch for fun) seek more instrumental cues to compensate for lack of touch when shopping apparel products online. Surprisingly, consumers high in instrumental NFT (i.e., who need to touch for product evaluation) use aesthetic as well as instrumental cues to supplement the absence of touch. In contrast, for the low NFT groups, only aesthetic online cues showed significant effects on consumer arousal. Further analysis shows that instrumental NFT is negatively related to purchase intention while autotelic NFT has a positive effect on purchase intention. This implies that need for hedonic-oriented touch is no longer a barrier for online apparel shopping. However, the instrumental NFT seems a significant obstacle for the adoption of online apparel purchasing.

과학기술과 문화의 관계는 어떻게 이해해야 하는가? 과학기술은 문화의 일부로서 이해되는가 하면, 흔히 과학기술과 문화는 서로 배타적인 관계에 있는 것으로 주장되기도 한다. 이 논문에서는 먼저 과학기술을 문화의 한 형태로서 검토하였다. 분명히 과학은 인식적 가치를 창조하는 가치문화의 일부이며, 기술은 비록 도구적 문화로서 파악되는 경우에도 문화체계의 일부로 이해해야 한다. 그러므로 과학기술은 어느 정도의 '상대적 자율성'을 지닌 문화체계의 일부인 것이다. 다음으로 이 논문은 정치체계, 경제체계, 문화체계와 과학기술체계 간의 긴장관계에 대해 검토하였다. 특히 현대사회에서 정치와 경제체계에 의해 문화체계가 식민화되는 과정에서 과학기술체계의 도구적 합리성의 왜곡에 의해서 야기된 기술지배의 부정적 결과들에 대해 검토하고, 이를 극복하기 위해서는 도구적 합리성이 사회적 합리성과 의사소통합리성 등에 의해 균형을 이루어야 함을 지적하였다. 끝으로 이 논문에서는 정치, 경제, 문화 및 시민사회 각각의 '과학문화'의 특성과 그와 같은 과학적 부분문화(scientific subcultures)들 간의 역동적인 관계와 사회과정을 통해 '인간화되고 민주적인 과학문화'가 형성될 수 있는 가능성에 대해 논의하였다.

This study was done to develop the standard recipe for nutritious cowpea starch based grape jelly. The effects of grape juice concentration (4, 8, 12%) and 0.2% calcium addition were evaluated on textural and sensory properties of grape jelly through the instrumental analysis using rheometer and sensory evaluation. Instrumental analysis showed that hardness, chewiness and gumminess of grape jelly was incerased significantly In jelly made of higher concentration of grape juice, and also in 0.2% calcium containing jelly. According to sensory evaluation, higher grape juice contains jelly showed advantages in preference of color and overall quality. Calcium addition increased sourness in sensory score. Overall, 12% grape juice and 0.2% calcium containing jelly was most preferable, which means calcium fortified cowpea starch based grape jelly was successful try for nutritious and practical food for elementary school foodservice.

This study was done to evaluate the effects of grape variety, pH and sugar contents on textural and sensory properties of grape pectin jelly. As a gelling agent, pectin 1% was selected due to highest sensory scores in preparatory experiments and also nutritional and economical reasons. To get the proximate composition of grape extract, moisture, pH, reducing sugar, and total titratable acidity was measured. Grape pectin jellies, made by 12 different recipies, were tested by sensory and instrumental evaluatoin. The results were as follows; 1) Hardness and chewiness were lowered in grape jelly which has lower pH and lower sugar contents. 2) People preferred grape jelly which has lower hardness, brittleness and sweetness, and higher sourness. 3) Comparing overall quality, Recipe C1 in Jelly 1 and recipe B1 in Jelly 2 were chosen as best. 4) Sensory hardness showed positive correlation with instrumental hardness, brittleness and chewiness.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the influences on resource transfers between middle-aged parents and their married children. This study used 2009 data from the National Research Foundation of Korea regarding inter-generational resource transfers and preparation for later life (kfr-2009-c00010). A sample of 1208 households of middle-aged parents with married children was used. The study found that parents provided financial resource transfers to their married children in the following circumstances: where parents received financial resource transfers from their married children, where the household income of parents was high, where the children were younger, and where the children were male. Parents provided instrumental resource transfers to their married children in the following circumstances: where parents received instrumental resource transfers from their married children, where the gender of children was female, where the children were employed, where married children had their own children who were either younger than a preschooler, and where household incomes of married children were high. Parents received financial resource transfers from their married children in these circumstances: where their emotional ties with their children was high, where the household income of the parents was low, where the household income of the married children was high, and where married children had preschoolers. The circumstances in which parents received instrumental resource transfers from their married children were where parents provided instrumental resource transfers and the household incomes of married children were high.

The topics of leadership and culture have attracted substantial interest from both academics and practitioners. This study examines the effects of leadership styles and national culture on affective commitment in samples of the restaurant employees in US. In detail, this study examines how employees evaluate their leaders with different national cultures and the ways in which cultural similarity influences employees' affective commitment. The findings suggest that participative leadership style and supportive leadership style have effects on affective commitment but instrumental leadership style does not. In addition, the findings show that employees evaluate differently leaderships of their leaders with different national culture. Finally, in order to increase the employees' affective commitment, it is recommended for managers to employ supportive leadership style toward employees of different national cultures. Participative leadership style is more effective when a manager is familiar with his or her employees' national culture.

본산대놀이계통 가면극들을 장면별로 구분해서 음악 구성을 살펴본 바에 따르면, 처음에 배치되는 제의적 성격을 지니는 벽사춤 장면에서는 <염불>이나 <느린굿거리>가 포함되는 기악곡이 연주된다. 가면극의 마지막에 배치되는 할미와 영감 장면에서는 기악곡으로 <굿거리>가 연주되고, 성악곡으로 <상여소리> 또는 <무가>가 불린다. 이 때 <상여소리> 또는 <무가>는 할미가 죽어서 굿을 하거나 상여를 메고 나가는 제의적인 성격의 장면에서 연주된다. 다음으로 중 장면, 양반과 말뚝이 장면, 할미와 영감 장면에서는 노승이 추는 춤의 반주음악으로 <염불>이 연주되고, 중이 부르는 노래와 취발이가 부르는 노래, 양반 또는 말뚝이가 추는 춤과 할미가 추는 춤의 반주 음악인 <굿거리>와 이들이 부르는 노래, 영감과 할미가 부르는 노래가 나오는데, 이들의 배치 순서는 유동적이다. 이렇게 가면극의 장면 배치가 유동적인 것은 음악 구성과 관련된 가면극의 구조 때문이다. 가면극의 구조는 성악곡이 등장하는 과장이 극 전체에 분산 배치되는 구조와 성악곡이 등장하는 과장이 후반에 집중 배치되는 구조로 구분해서 볼 수 있다. 즉 가면극의 구조는 앞에서도 언급했듯이, 서로 관련 없는 주제들로 이루어진 과장이 다시 모여진 형태로 알려져 있다. 이러한 과장들의 배치를 어떻게 할 것인가에 관해서 각 과장에 어떤 음악이 포함되는지의 여부도 영향을 준 것으로 보인다. 관객을 긴장 또는 이완시키고, 흥을 이끌어 내거나 슬픔을 자극하기 위해서 적절한 음악의 배치는 필수적인 요소이다. 이러한 음악의 배치는 각 가면극별로 공통된 장면에서 공통되기도 하고 그렇지 않기도 하다. 양주별산대놀이, 봉산탈춤 등에서 불리는 <백구타령>과 <오독도기>가 수영야류에서도 반경토리로 불리는 예처럼 가면극의 전파 경로에 따라 동일 장면에서 연주되는 음악 역시 전파되었을 것이나 각 가면극 연희자의 음악적 역량이나 공연 환경 등에 따라 변형되거나 대체되고, 또는 생략되기도 했다. 그에 따라 동일한 내용의 과장이지만 이에 포함되는 음악의 유무, 그리고 그 음악의 성격이 달라졌을 것이다. 이는 가면극별로 동일한 내용의 과장이 음악적 효과의 포함 여부에 따라 서로 다른 순서로 배치되도록 영향을 주었을 것이다.

Psychological support is crucial in navigating one's academic and professional lives, especially for students living abroad and pursuing higher education. This study aims to explore the narratives of social support seeking in a group of Korean international graduate students in an urban university setting in the United States. Qualitative research method of narrative approach was used to examine how three Korean graduate students exchanged psychological support. Analysis of interviews, observations, and documents found that four types of social support (informational, instrumental, appraisal, and emotional) were being exchanged and that emotional support was accessible predominantly in individual meetings than in group gatherings. Additionally, the reasons for abstaining from initiating group gatherings are discussed in relation to the Korean culture where participants were mindful of not infringing on each other's time. These findings inform theory on socio psychological support seeking and its relation to cultural values and offer practical insights into psychological support in international students in higher education settings.

Stage costumes perform not only the instrumental but also the expressive functions. The major goal of this study is to develop the functional and aesthetic costume designs for musical players considering the characteristics of instruments, players' postures. This study will increase the related market size and the players' choices and move aurally and visually more. The scope of this study is restricted to the musical costumes for female adult soloists playing the wind and string instruments. This study is composed of theory research, empirical research and manufacturing a real costume.
