The Selection Factors and the Satisfaction Degree of Parents on Early Childhood Education Institutions (부모의 유아교육기관 유형별 선택요인 및 만족도)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine parents' selection factors and satisfaction degree in selecting an early childhood education institute according to various types of early childhood education institutes. The subjects were 650 parents of early childhood education institutes from Andong city. The result of the study can be summarized as follows. The parents' consideration degrees in the selection factors were different according to the types of early childhood education institutes. The parents' satisfaction degree on the early childhood education institutes was also different according to the types of early childhood education institutes. This result might be helpful in determining future directions for the improvement of the qualitative growth of early childhood education reflecting the demands and characteristics of parents.

  • Governments around the world place great hopes in innovation in their search for new sources of growth and for responses to grand challenges, such as climate change, new or re-emerging infectious diseases, accelerating urbanisation, ageing, food security, and availability of clean water. However they must devise their relevant support policies -- including through sponsored research within public research institutes -- taking into account that innovation processes are currently undergoing a major transformation. New innovation patterns include a broadening scope of relevant activities, a growing importance but changing nature of scientific roots of technological development, a stronger demand-pull, the emergence of new local and national STI powerhouses, and the rise of more open and globalised innovation networks. They translate into new opportunities but also constraints for policies to enhance the contribution of public research institutes to national innovation performance. The article derives the main policy implications regarding the desirable evolution of the mission, research focus, as well as the funding and steering of public research institutes, with a special reference to Korea.

  • With a cultural powerhouse in mind, China is trying to spread Chinese culture around the world by promoting Confucius Institutes. Calligraphy is the core of Chinese culture and is the most efficient field of spreading Chinese culture. The forms of calligraphy dissemination at Confucius Institutes were mainly the opening of calligraphy curriculum, calligraphy experience events, and holding calligraphy contests and exhibitions. But these activities are not very professional or organized. Therefore, Confucius Institutes need to come up with more active and aggressive measures. It will have to train professional calligraphy teachers to be sent abroad and build a deeper educational infrastructure by developing calligraphy teaching materials exclusively for use in the country. They should also explore ways to develop calligraphy into a cultural industry brand in many ways. If the Confucius Institutes actively exchanged and promoted themselves with many countries by calligraphy, Chinese calligraphy could be reborn as an art in the world.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the association between educational environment (physical environment of cooking institutes and curriculum) and satisfaction with learning of students at local cooking institutes. Self-administered questionnaires were distributed to 300 student enrolled at cooking institutes located in Pohang and Gyeongju, and a total of 265 were usable. Collected data were statistically analyzed using SPSS 12.0 by frequency, factor, reliability, t-test and Duncan's multiple range test. The results can be summarized as follows. Most of the subjects were enrolled at cooking institutes to learn Korean and Western cuisine. There were significant differences in learning according to institution, facility, method and instructor. There were also significant differences in learning according to gender, age, education, and attended classes. Based on the results, the physical environment of cooking institutes contributed to learning in the students, but the operation system also needs to be improved. However, study was limited in sample size and area, the results can-not be generalized.

  • Human papillomavirus type 16 (HPV16) has been known as a major causative factor for the development of uterine cervical carcinomas. To investigate the in vivo activity of HPV16 expressed in squamous epithelia, transgenic mice harboring HPV16 E6/E7 with human keratin 14 (hK14) promoter were generated. Grossly, hK14 driven HPV16 E6/E7 transgenic mice exhibited multiple phenotypes, including wrinkled skin that was apparent prior to the appearance of hair in neonates, thickened ears, and loss of hair in adults.   • This paper describes an implementation of a single phase PWM ac/dc converter whose control scheme can be directly applied to the rectification of ac traction system. Power circuit using self-commutated switching devices(GTO) provides input power factor correction with dc voltage regulation. Effective compensation of load variations and line disturbance can be accomplished by real time instantaneous control of ac input current and dc link voltage using 32 bit floating point DSP. Parallel operation of two converters reduces the input line current ripple. Experimental results of the two parallel converter system are shown in the 20KW range for the verification of the system.

  • Optical measurements of the morphological and biochemical imaging of phytoplankton are presented. Employing quantitative phase imaging techniques, 3-D refractive index maps and high-resolution 2-D quantitative phase images of individual live phytoplankton are simultaneously obtained without exogenous labeling agents. In addition, biochemical information of individual phytoplankton including volume, mass, and density of individual phytoplankton are also quantitatively obtained from the measured refractive index distributions. We expect the present method to become a powerful tool for the study of phytoplankton.

  • The enormous budget of government and manpower are invested to the government funded institutes every year. The R&D investment focused on input has to be turned toward the investment based on the effectiveness of R&D activities. Measuring the efficiency of research activities is required in order to evaluate the effectiveness of R&D investment in these institutes. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the relative efficiency of research activities performed in 19 government funded research institutes. CCR/BCC model and DEA/AR model were applied to get the relative efficiency of 19 institutes. Assurance regions for the weight of output attributes were obtained by using the underlined concept of the analytic hierarchy process (AHP). We used input and output data items describing research activity of 19 government funded research institutes. The results of this study are expected to become a basis of the R&D investment decision of the government.

Corrosion behavior of coated steel pipes for water works with water content of soil (토양의 함수율에 빠른 상수도용 도복장 강관의 부식거동에 관한 연구)

  • The corrosion rate of buried steel pipes for water works was investigated under soil environment. Steel pipe shows various characteristics caused by complicated environment condition of underground and especially the corrosion rate of it depends on the resistivity of soil controlled by content of water. In this paper, the corrosion behavior of steel pipe was observed by polarization test under soil and the silica sand in the water content range of 0-50%. Generally it is well known that the resistivity of soil decreased rapidly over 15% water content. In fact the corrosion rate, corrosion potential, and corrosion consumption (MPY) of steel pipe were shown very different aspects within 20% water content.
