  • As is well-known, the maximum power point(MPP) of PV power generation system depends on array temperature and solar insolation, it is necessary to track MPP of solar array all the time. Among various MPP control algorithms, the constant voltage control method, the perturbation and observation(P&O) method and the incremental conductance method(IncCond) have drawn many attractions due to the usefulness of each system. In this paper, the effectiveness of above mentioned three different control algorithms are thoroughly investigated via simulations and proposed efficiency evaluation method on experiment. Both the steady-state and transient characteristics of each control algorithms along with measured efficiency are analyzed, respectively. Finally, a novel MPPT control algorithm combining the constant voltage control and IncCond method for low insolation condition is proposed to improve efficiency of the 3KW PV power generation system.

  • In design PV(photovoltaic) system, there are many important factors to consider for best site selection. It is essential to understand to know the amount of sunlight available and how to minimize the shadings. This study presents basic concepts for understanding sun's position and insolation. also gives easy tools for topography analysis. Finally, this study shows some theoretical calculations of power generation losses and disadvantages in economic feasibility.

  • The solar cell should be operated at the maximum power point every instant. Because this maximum power point is fluctuating due to the change in the insolation and temperature. In this paper, we propose a new maximum power' point tracker by using the microprocessor. The proposed step-down chopper system tracks always the maximum power point, regardless of the change in the insolation, temperature and load.

인공위성영상 예측기법을 적용한 태양광에너지 이용가능성 평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Feasibility Evaluation for the Use of Solar Photovoltaic Energy in Korean Peninsula Using a Satellite Image Forecasting Method)

  • Images taken by geostationary satellite may be used to estimate solar irradiance fluxes at earth's surface. It is based on the empirical correlation between a satellite derived cloud index and the irradiance at the ground. For the validation, estimated solar radiation fluxes are compared with observed solar radiation fluxes at 16 sites over the Korean peninsular from January 1982 to December 2004. Estimated solar radiation fluxes show reliable results for estimating the global radiation with average deviation of -7.8 to +7.0% from the measured values and the yearly averaged horizontal global insolation of Korean peninsula was turned out to be $3.56kW/m^{2}/day$.

국내 대기청명도의 경년변화 (A Change of Yearly Atmospheric Clearness Index in Korea)

  • Since the atmospheric clearness index is main factor for evaluating atmosphere environment, it is necessary to estimate its characteristics all over the major cities in Korea. We have begun collecting clearness index data since 1982 at 16 different cities and considerable effort has been made for constructing a standard value from measured data at each city. The new clearness data will be extensively used by evaluating atmospheric environment as well as by solar application system designer or users. Yearly mean 64% of the atmospheric clearness index was evaluated for clear day all over, and significant difference of horizontal global insolation is observed between 1982~1986 and 1987~1991, 1992~1996, 1997~2001, 2002~2009 through 16 different cities in Korea.

  • The Korea Institute of Energy and Resources (KIER) has begun collecting horizental insolation data since May, 1982 at different locations. Because of a poor reliability of existing data, KIER's new data will be extensively used by the solar system users as well as by research institutes. But, the quality of the solar radiation data is not always good. This reports on an attempt to identify systematic error in such data using clear-day analysis for data rehabilitation. Clear-day analysis is successful in uncovering solar radiation data of questionable quality. It is not proven that rehabilitation process can improve the quality of data for daily or monthly means but it is suggested that the method can be used to improve the quality of data for monthly means of several years for use in many applications of solar energy planning. Earlier studies finding a maximum ETR of about 0.80 are confirmed.

피라밋의 일조특성(日照特性) 연구 (Insolation Phase of the Pyramids)

  • For all the variety of past studies on the pyramids of Old Kingdom of Egypt, they still basically remain in 'enigma and mystery' as Giedion rightly puts in. This paper deals directly with the three most obvious facts about the pyramids : their cardinal orientation, the varying slopes, and above all, their magnitude. The prominent triangles of their once polished faces were there to be seen from the Nile valley as they shined or shaded under the Sun. The northern faces, especially, went in and out of the Sun in accordence with the seasonal variation of the solar declination, The steeper northern faces which turned into shade in high summer noon could have been warning signs of oncoming inundation of Nile, and the milder slopes that suddenly began to shine in some early spring noons could have been the vernal alarms to awaken the peasants to their timely toil on the fresh land. Dates and hours of insolation on the northern faces of pyramids are graphically and numerically computed.

  • This paper is proposed the vector control of 3-phase induction motor drive system by photovoltaic generation. For performance of vector control using a current control voltage source inverter(CC-VSI). CC-VSI is controlled by torque and flux producing component of motor current, relating with current and voltage value of photovoltaic arrays at maximum power point that varies follow different level of insolation. The MPPT using a DC-DC converter controlled the duty cycle to track maximum power from PV under different insolation conditions. The simulation results are shown that the characteristics and performance of drive system, which varies as each conditions of light by expresses in voltage($V_{dq}$), current($I_{dq}$), speed of motor and torque.

A dP/dV Feedback-Controlled MPPT Method for Photovoltaic Power System Using II-SEPIC

  • A dP/dV feedback-controlled MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) method for photovoltaic power systems using II-SEPIC (Isolated Inverse-SEPIC; Single Ended Primary Inductance Converter) is presented and a current-mode dP/dV feedback-controlled MPPT method is devised to apply for the PV power converter system. A control strategy for the current-mode dP/dV feedback control system is developed in this paper and the proposed MPPT shows relatively satisfactory dynamics against rapidly changing insolation conditions. In order to verify the validity and effectiveness of the proposed method, simulations and experiments of the PV power system using II-SEPlC converter are performed. These simulation and experiment results show that the proposed method enables the PV power system to extract maximum power from the photovoltaic module against the solar insolation variation.
