Bacillus thuringiensis 656-3 which was isolated from a soil sample of mushroom house and showed high toxicity to mushroom flies, Lycoliella mali and Coboldia fuscipes, was surveyed for insecticidal effect in the oyster mushroom house.3. thutingiensis 656-3 was mass-cultured in the fermenter containing soybean cake(2%) and wheat bran (2%) as media source. Semi-for-mutation of B. thuringiensis 656-3 was performed with metamorphic starch only. When the formulation suspension containing $5{\times}{10^7}$ cfu was sprayed on the mushroom in mushroom house, the insecticidal effect of B. thuringiensis 656-3 to mushroom flies,1. mali and C. fuscipes, was maintained over 90% by the fifth day after starting spraying. The yield of oyster mushroom house with B. thuringiensis 656-3 was significantly increased compared to control. B. thuringiensis 656-3 represents a powerful biological insecticide for the control of mushroom flies.
Cockroaches are a not only nuisance insects but also have medical importance as they mechanically propagate various pathogens. To date, baits have been widely suggested for use in cockroach control. In this study, we investigated the insecticidal effects of three Korean baits-Korea Combat Ultra Slim (K-CUS), Korea Combat Power (K-CP), and Korea Zaps Dual Bait (K-ZDB)-and three US baits-US Combat Source Kill Max (US-CSKM), US Hot Shot MaxAttrax Roach Bait (US-HSM), and US Raid Double Control Small Roach Bait (US-RDC)-on the German cockroach (Blattella germanica). Among the six baits, three (K-CUS, K-CP, and US-CSKM), the main active ingredients of fipronil, showed rapid and strong insecticidal efficacy. In addition, we compared the persistence of the insecticidal effects of K-CUS and K-CP 6 months and 12 months after initial opening. Insecticidal effects of both baits decreased over time, but the mortality rates of cockroaches exposed to 6-month- and 12-month-aged baits were over 90%, suggesting that these baits can maintain their insecticidal effect for at least one year after indoor installation.
The development of insecticidal soaps made by various fatty acids and organic control for insect by using of insecticidal soap(fatty acid salts) were employed. And the results were as follows: 1. To determine the input volume of potassium hydroxide for saponification of fatty acids, there were compared to individual acid value of fatty acids. in case of coconut fatty acids for saponification was 266.3 mg of potassium hydroxide(266 g/1kg of fatty acid) was calculated. 2. To make the 25% soap content by coconut fatty acids, there was required for the 266g of potassium hydroxide and 3,459 liter of soft water. Then the liquor of soap was 4,644 liter. 3. The progress of insecticidal soap made by fatty acids was accomplished indirect heating and stirring reactor (1)to make the volume of potassium hydroxide solution and warming up(90$^{\circ}$) (2)input volume of individual fatty acid (3)more than 30 min stirring reaction (4)cooling progress. 4. Insecticidal value of insecticidal soap was observed more than 92% the dilution of 50 dilution solution in consecutive 5 days of 2 treatments of the 25% soap made by coconut fatty acids on the red pepper. And insecticidal value of insecticidal soap was observed more than 94% the 100 dilution solution in consecutive 5 days of 3 treatments of the 25% soap made by coconut fatty acids on red pepper and cabbage. 5. The treatment of two times of 25% soap made by coconut fatty acids at the 50 dilution solution and 100 dilution solution in spider mite on red bean has 100% insecticidal value. 6. There was no observation phytotoxic sypmtons on red pepper in field, except for 25% soap made by carprylic acid. 7. Over the two times over 0.1% in addition of isopropyl alcohol was to improvement the insecticidal effect, but there was no effect in addition of diatomaceous earth.
This study was performed to evaluate the polymers and surfactants as the potential control agents of sweet potato whitefly Bemisia tabaci, which is causing problems in ornamental garden and greenhouse. Polymers have an insecticidal activity to knock down and to be lethal to small winged insects by its viscosity. Among five polymers tested at 0.2% concentration, polinol P-24 showed the highest insecticidal activity as 59.4% against B. tabaci adult in cylindrical chamber, and followed by polinol P-20 (insecticidal activity, 57.1%). When treated at 0.1 % or 0.3% concentrations, Polinol P-24 also showed the highest insecticidal activity with 43.3% and 54.5%, respectively. Among eight surfactants tested, insecticidal activity was the highest in 0.0005% NP10 treatment (70.0%), and followed by 0.001% NP7 (67.4%). The synergistic effect between polinol P-24 and eight surfactants was evaluated. After bioassays, the 0.2% polinol P-24 plus 0.005% NP10 was selected as a candidate control agent for controlling of B. tabaci adults. Polinol P-24/NP10 was showed the highest control efficacy against B. tabaci adults applied three times at three day-intervals in square rearing cage. In the greenhouse, the mixture treatment showed good control value over 70% seven days after treatment.

These studies were carried out to investigate the toxicities of 33 registered insecticide to the American serpentine leafminer, Liriomyza trifolii. Insecticidal activities were evaluated by testing systemic action and residual effect in the laboratory, and control efficacy and phytotoxicity in the greenhouse. All insecticides used in this study did not effect on the egg of L. trifolii, although spinosad showed 70% of egg-hatch suppression. For L. trifolii larvae ($2{\sim}3$ instar), the insecticides with over 95% of insecticidal activity were abamectin, cartap, cyromazine, emamectin benzoate, diflubenzuron + chlorpyrifos. The Insecticide what showed over 90% of insecticidal activity or neonate larvae were abamectin, cartap, emamectin benzoate, diflubenzuron + chlorpyrifos and milbemectin. Only cartap + buprofezin showed over 95% insecticidal activity against L. trifolii pupae. Almost insecticides used in this study little or not effected on the adult of L. trifolii. Emamectin benzoate and milbemectin showed moderate foliar systemic effects on eggs of L. trifolii (53.3, 47.9%, respectively). However, other insecticides showed little systemic effect. For larvae and adults, all insecticides showed low systemic effects. Insecticides with over 90% residual effect for 10 days were abamectin, emamectin benzoate and milbemectin (91.4, 90.4, 91.9%, respectively). In the control efficacy test on L. trifolii 90% of control values were obtained at 14th day after treatment of the insecticides including abamectin, cyromazine, emamectin benzoate and milbemectin. Cartap and cartap + buprofezin showed slight phytotoxicity on kidney bean leaf, however, other insecticides showed no phytotoxic effects. These results indicate that abamectin, emamectin benzoate and milbemectin can be used for tile control of L. trifolii in field.
In order to seek the molecular basis of higher insecticidal activity of the carbamates with two methyl groups, m-xylyl-N-methylcarbamate(MXNMC) than the corresponding unsubstituted phenyl N-methylcarbamate(PNMC), these two derivatives have been studied by molecular orbital(MO) theoretically using extended $H\ddot{u}ckel$ theory(EHT), and analysis of regression and linear free energy relationship(LFER). The most stable stereo structure(Z, Z) shows that the phenyl group occupies vertical(${\theta}=90^{\circ}$) position on the plane of the N-methylcarbamyl group. Regression analysis shows that especially good correlation exists between the $pI_{50}$ values and the calculated MO quantities when the hydrogen atomic charge of metaposition and of m-methyl groups, and LUMO energy are taken as variables. The LFER analysis on the carbamylation indicates that field(F) effect(60%) is slightly larger than resonance(R) effect(40%) in PNMC(E>R), whereas, in case of MXNMC, R effect(98.6%) is much larger than F effect(1.4%)($R{\gg}F$). From the basis on the findings, the enhancement of insecticidal activity of MXNMC may be the result of hyperconjugation by m-methyl groups.
In organic agriculture, choose of effective and cheap bio-pesticide is very important. The authors developed an insecticidal extract from neem cake, waste of neem oil from kernel, and applied as a bio-pesticide. Bio-pesticide neem cake extracts experiment on cabbage pest was carried out at Wonju Agricultural Technology and Extension Center from 11 March to 30 May 2003. There were six treatments with three replications, using completely randomized design. Treatments involved three and six sprays of synthetic pyrethroid pesticide cypermethrin 10 EC at the dilution rate of 2.2 mL $L^{-1}$ of distilled water and four, five and six sprays of bio-pesticide neem at the dilution rate of 13.3 mL $L^{-1}$ of distilled water, and untreated control. For each treatment, designated sprayings were done at 7 days interval. Pre-spray data showed that the plants in all the experimental plots were already infested with aphid (Aphis gossypii), and diamondback moth (Pluetella xylostella). The results indicated that all neem pesticide treatments were more effective in insecticidal activity than the untreated control and the chemical treatments in controlling aphids and diamondback moth. Among the three neem treatments, there were no significant differences between them.

Hexane extract of Porteresia coarctata (Roxb.) exhibits a toxic effect on the tissues of Spodoptera litura (F) while fed at the dose of 1000 and 2000 ppm thoroughly mixing with castor leaves (Ricinus communis L) after dissolving in DMSO at late fourth instar whereas only DMSO treated castor leaves were fed to control group. The larvae were put to rear at $28^{\circ}C{\pm}1^{\circ}C$, $76{\pm}4%$ R.H. under 12 L + 12 D photoperiodic regime. In test group insects substantial reduction of protein and DNA content was marked in fat body and midgut tissues compared to DMSO treated control group. The significant biochemical alterations in the midgut tissues and fat body of test group insects indicate the insecticidal property of the said plant extract that could be tested in facilitating the phenomenal stride in Integrated Pest Management.

The insecticidal activities of 27 different commercial products with environmentally friendly organic material(EFOM) against Scotinophara lurida, a major rice pest, were evaluated in the laboratory using spraying methods on plants and insects. Seven plant-derived organic farming materials (EFOM-8, -10, -12, -13, -19, -20, and -26) with high insecticidal effects when sprayed directly on the insect's body rather than on the plant were selected. In the indoor rice pot test, all 7 EFOMs showed an insecticidal rate of over 73.3% under flooding conditions. Notably, EFOM-13 and EFOM-20 demonstrated much higher insecticidal rates, ranging from 1.5 to 1.8 times, in flooding conditions compared to drained conditions. In the semi-paddy field test, EFOM-10 (80% garlic extract), EFOM-13 (62% neem extract), and EFOM-26 (70% sophora extract+28% ethyl alcohol+2% pyrethrum extract) exhibited a higher control value of 88.9% in the irrigated paddy on the 7th day, surpassing the control values in the drained paddy by 1.4 to 1.9 times. The control value in the irrigated rice paddy field sprayed with EFOM-10 reached 86.2% on the 7th day, which was 1.4 times higher than 61.9% in the drained paddy. Taken together, the findings suggest that direct contact of the insect's body with sufficient amounts of spray solution and the maintenance of paddy irrigation can enhance the controlling effect of EFOMs. These findings will be valuable in developing an optimal S. lurida control strategy for application in rice paddy fields in the near future.
